Got Mikolas off the hook. Now we are in our usual low scoring nail biter.

Goldy 37% above league average since mid-May. He just started the year so terrible that he’s wearing that anchor around his neck and it’s hard to get out from under it.

Since our offense came out of hibernation on May 11, here’s everyone’s WRC+ (20 AB Min):

Chappy makes quick work of the Cardinals in the 9th. He can still record outs. I’m surprised Gorman’s still in this game.

It should be an auto ball if your pitch com doesn’t work and you do replace the pitching sometime other than in between ABs. Just put down the fingers. A break in the action to see the pitcher complain he can’t hear isn’t a good use of time.

Kittredge and Lynn would look good on a couple of loud and obnoxious HD choppers cruising down the center lane of the interstate scaring all of the law abiding public…Haha!

This is the second extra inning game that he hasn’t gone to his closer with a 1 run lead. I think he expects the Pirates to tie the game.

Helsley has just been used too often. I’m sure they need him to sit.

I don’t know, J. He hasn’t been worked any harder than their other top 2 or 3 arms in the BP. He can’t close out games if he sits.

Gave it away. Lousy way to lose a baseball game.

He’s pitched 3 of the last 6 days. And he’s pitched a ton this season. Just not worth breaking him over a shot at 1 win. I’m sure some will disagree. But I’d rather he stays sharp.

Best 9th inning guy in baseball and the whiz-kid neglects to use him to secure a W. Hard to believe.

I would have rather stuck with Kittredge. JoJo is mostly broken after we rode him too hard early.

Well can’t win all the close ones. I was a bit worried at them taking out Kitty. I would have had Helsley available for this one as I would not have used him leading by 3 last night. But who knows if things would have worked out any different.

Now that I can agree with BikeMike. I thought the same last night. I would rather they went to someone else while up 3. But hard to know the future.

That’s twice he’s done that in extras and dumped the 1 run lead for a loss. If by some odd chance the Cardinals come up a game or two short at the end of the season, you can fondly look back on those two games.

I don’t get it. Where was Helsley tonight? I’m pretty sure many past Cardinals outstanding closers would have “answered the bell” in this important divisional game. And I’m starting to wonder about Gallegos and Romero.

It’s not like Ollie didn’t want to turn it over to Helsley. He just couldn’t. We can’t break him. I’m happy to keep him effective rather than lose him to injury or watch him become Romero.

Helsley worked 33 pitches in the last 5 days.
