Hmmm, yes, that’s nice, but I like the floral pattern better.

Well, they are only hitting .236 overall, so it’s not that big of a dropoff…

I knew it was a pathetic performance with RISP, but 13th worst in history?…Man, that’s bad. Real bad.

Whoa…2013? 13th worse? I’m detecting a pattern, 25! Could very well be the detestable work of an evil baseball gypsy…

So, I’m betting this improves to the point where it’s not THIS bad….

It’s looking more and more like a lineup with Winn 1, Donovan 2 and Burleson 3 is the way to go. Possibly, Contreras at 4 when he returns. Those are the top four hitters, overall, the Cardinals will likely have going soon.

No Nootbaar in your top 4 Cards hitters? On a per PA basis he is 3rd best on the team behind Contreras and Winn.

ATM, I’ll take Burly over Noot as a pure hitter. The K ratios are also a factor.

Winn bats first. Do what you want with Donny, Burleson and Contreras at 2,3, and 4. Contreras makes the most $ so ask him where he wants to hit. Just move Goldy and Arenado down where fading stars need to be. 6,7,8.

KCB, the wildcard is Gorman. Right now, he’s a “make you or break you” type hitter.

Gorman needs to be down there with the fading stars. Noot needs to hit ninth until he gets his groove on. That’s not an insult anymore, either.Brave new world.

Walker and Scott are both becoming concerning.

Scott needs to drop down to AA where he had success and retool his approach at the plate. He is not getting anywhere at Memphis and I think he is just too overmatched to be able to do what he needs to do. It is not clear he will develop enough hitting ability to stick on a ML roster however fast he is.

It seems clear they are working with Walker since his batting line in Memphis looks a lot different than what he has put up in the past. It seems like ML pitching/defense was able to discover and exploit a hole in his approach and he was unable to adjust. So he is now attempting to adjust so as to be less vulnerable. He is hitting OK in AAA, but without any regular power and he is certainly not tearing it up down there. It seems like there may be a fork in the road. Try to stick with the middle of the order power bat hope, or veer off toward more of a Burleson contact hitter approach. It is not clear if he will turn into the impact player we hoped, or more of a complimentary piece, which would be a huge let down. Honestly, I am concerned whether he will be able to stick at all, since his bat will have to carry him and opponents are not going to stop looking for holes and weaknesses.

So what you are concluding is that it doesn’t work to send a player back down to Triple-A to “learn how to hit”…. 😉

Results have been disappointing. They aren’t learning to hit in ML either. I understand Contreras is about to return. Maybe that will help. Which catcher will get sent out?

No catchers will be sent out I assume. Herrera has been above average offensively and we need all the offense we can get. He can DH and provide pinch hitting duties. Pages’s glove is looking very good and I think the team prefers him as the primary backup. I’m guessing Fermin gets sent down when Contreras is back.

I wonder if checking Crawford out at 3B was in anticipation of that.

Gorman is the guy that needs to develop consistency if our club is going to step up the run production. If he can just hit .250, maintain the power and cut back some on the strikeouts he would be extremely valuable.

I agree with Shady on the top of the order as Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Contreras. The way Ollie might go is Contreras and Burly at 3, 4 as he likes R_L_R_L.

Goldy and Nado probably go in the 5 to 7 area, unless they find some of their old magic.

bicyclemike, I’ll be surprised if Ollie ever bats Goldy or Arenado lower than 5. And he seems dialed in to Burly at 2. So I look for it to be Winn, Burly, Contreras, Goldy, Arenado, Gorman, Donovan. My preference is Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Contreras, Goldy, Arenado, Gorman, Nootbarr, Edman (Carlson until Edman returns). Burly will likely stay in RF until Noot returns, then Burly goes to DH. I’m not sure how the Hererra, Pages backup catcher situation evolves.

Yeah, Gorman’s beginning to take on the persona of a disappointment and I held him in really high esteem for quite some time. You can’t hardly help but be taken in by the power, but unless he can make more contact and cut way down on the K’s, I don’t see how the power can sustain him as an offensive asset. He has to somehow focus on a way to place the baseball in play while also making solid contact. I’m no hitting coach, but somewhere there has to be someone who’s philosophy regarding making contact could help him.

Burly 5th, Gorman 7th when everyone is back. Neither should table set. Their OBP is lacking very badly for that role.

Donovan and Noot are the proven table setters. Winn is another option if his BAbip can hang around .350, but his BB/K is trending very poorly. Best hit and run swing on the roster.
