Yeah, you can’t overlook Hack. What sort of a mortal human being amasses 350 RBI’s in 2 seasons? What’s even better is legend has it that Cubs manager Joe McCarthy was constantly worried about his slugger’s alcohol intake so he once tried to dissuade Hack from drinking too much by summoning Wilson into his office and asking him to have a seat. He then poured a glass of bourbon whiskey and dropped a worm into the glass at which point the worm quickly shriveled up and died. McCarthy then looked at Wilson and solemnly aked him, “What does that tell you, Hack?” Hack looked across the manager’s desk and answered, “If I drink Whiskey I won’t have to worry about getting worms?”
LOL I heard that story Dom. There is only ONE Book written about Hack that still survives, and I sure wanna read it some day

I have a book, “Hack’s 191”, that I read a couple of years ago. Great read and bio on Hack, plus game by game on his incredible 191 RBIs in 1930. Talk about a record that likely will never be broken.
In the book the author talks about how Joe McCarthy pretty much left Hack alone as far as his night time carousing, as long as he showed up in shape to play. And Hack had great years for McCarthy.
When McCarthy was let go and Rogers Hornsby took over, The Rajah was always on his case who it drinking. It was a bit hypocritical of Hornsby as even though he did not drink, he played the ponies all the time. Anyway, Wilson was never the same after that.
I like Gorman 7th, so who is the better choice at cleanup today Bling? Who would you move up to “out hit” Gorman?
If anyone’s interested in a go to during between inning commercials during Cardinals/Braves game, the final game of the college WS between Tennessee and Texas A&M is being broadcast on ESPN. I haven’t been following this year’s college WS, but a friend of mine told me today that he’s been watching and it’s been highly entertaining.
Lance has thrown three clunkers in a row. I’d say he needs to shape up in more ways than one. Be good or be gone.
He won’t get any bargains this evening. He tends to serve up HR’s and the Braves have some bats that’ll feast on taters.

Well come on; did you see that skinny-ass bat he was using? Looked like a stick, not to mention the man couldn’t even spell BUNT or try to go with a pitch to LF. Dead pull, 5’6” 205 lb freak ‘O nature!
He musta had some great OB% guys in front of him, like Boyer in ’64 who had Flood, Groat and Brock with about 600 hits between ’em and a combined .300 BA!
Kenny was my man but how many RBI would Mays, Aaron or Frank had if they had those three? More than 124 I’m thinking
Or a better walk rate and the plate discipline to adhere to it. Until then he’s bottom of the order (7th).
