Walker has a long way to go in order to replace Burleson in the lineup. Especially, vs RHP.
The distance is less than you think due to the massive hype cadet effect. Walker got beamed up to MLB soaked in slobber from the radar gun groupies hyperventilating over his ability to punish AA fastball mistakes, and he can and will get beamed into the lineup in place of somebody who has fought and scraped to earn it. That is the reality. You can argue it won’t happen but it will.
Obviously Gray is a 1A or 1B starter and to win in the postseason you need two top guys (Wheeler/Nola as an example). I don’t see them spending huge for one, so a trade has to happen. I don’t have a clue who that pitcher could be, but it will take a small fortune of prospects. Who is valuable that you would give up? Hence and Winn are non tradeable due to needs, but even Walker and Gorman are possible for me due to other options.
Side note, I’d love a Joc Pederson type for the OF next year.
Why would you love Joc Pederson type? We have one. Gorman. Only he’s 6 years younger 9 million$ cheaper and will hit more homeruns. Be patient with Gorman. And they aren’t trading Walker either.

1td, I am just curious as to Burleson’s trade value compared to the current “untouchables”. Winn should probably have the highest Cardinals trade value by the end of the season. If not already. I’ll be surprised if Burly won’t move into the top five in TV in the organization shortly.
I really have never kept up with what they call a player’s trade value Shady, but obviously his bat has progressed to a degree that any team would be more than happy to have it in their line-up. Right now, I’m happy to see it every day in the Cardinal line-up. He’s really dialed in and barreling up the baseball to all areas of the field.

I might, too. If it brought back a young, cost controlled starting pitcher ace. I mean a no-brainer, established ace. Not a potential ace. One way or the other, both Winn’s and Burleson’s development this season has been delightful.
I wouldn’t trade Burleson, Shady. He’s a low cost run producer on an upward trajectory. He isn’t going anywhere.
KCB, actually, I concur. Both Winn and Burleson are just “scratching the surface”, talent-wise. I’m not sure what’s going on with Gorman and Walker.
You have to have patience with these young players Shady. Burleson is just now emerging. They would have thrown him in a deal last year if that’s what it took to get it done. Everyone is down on Gorman. Do some research on what 16 hr’s and 48 rbi projected over a season costs a team these days. I just don’t see them trading these players.
How to fix the Cardinals.
1) Goldschmidt, Arenado and Gorman need to “get their shit together”.
2) Nootbaar needs to come back, stay in the lineup, and perform commensurate to Donovan and Burleson.
3) Contreras needs to return to his previous offensive production. If so, he’s the primary DH. Let the brilliant defensive catcher, Pages, do most of the catching.2) Nootbaar needs to come back, stay in the lineup, and perform commensurate to Donovan and Burleson.
Nootbaar has a .741 OPS, Donovan has a .744 OPS.

Burleson has previously never been much of an offensive threat in addition to being a part time player But now he is a blip on 29 radar screens. It will become worthwhile to expend the time and resources to devise pitching and defensive strategies to get him out. This will be all the more true if he emerges as a full time player even once other outfielders return to the active roster. We will see how that goes.
News flash Bling. He’s a full time player. A full time player at the top of the lineup. A full time player at the top of the team’s production stats. When he stops hitting, unlike Goldy and Arenado, he will stop playing because he has no other value. But I wouldn’t bet against him, because unlike Goldy and Arenado, he isn’t a guess hitter in his middle thirties.

Burly is producing a 120 ops+ over 252 PA’s this first half. I’m proud of him. He’s showing up when we need him. The recency bias over Burly’s 252 PA’s this half is deserved. But, lets not forget….
For 1150 PA’s, Donny is a CAREER 117 ops+.
For 1115 PA’s, Noot is a CAREER 115 ops+.
They have had standout “halves” too. Every 2nd half, Noot has put up a .800+ ops, accross 586 PA’s. A hot half is nothing new for them.What Burly is doing now, as he breaks out at mlb, is a nice flash in the pan to monitor going forward, but it’s nothing new among our lefty bats.

Which is the greater accomplishment over a season?
A .400 obp, or a .400 slg% ?OPS like to add them as if the were equals, but they are not. HR’s sell tickets and win games too, until you face good pitching. Then it gets hard to just get on base.
I’ll take my chances with Donny and Noot batting 1st and 3rd, while Burly and Gorman bat 5th and 7th.
