I think we have to hope Reyes is what everyone thinks and hopes he could be. Then you only have to worry about the 5th spot. Cabrera showed a promising live arm or does CMart ever make it all the way back?
Outside of two walks to McCutchen, his only real mistake was to Harper and that happens to the best of them. In baseball, you can’t “pre-script” anything the game doesn’t work like that and it rarely rewards those types of moves.
I think Cabrera should get another start, it would be a shame if they sent down the kid considering Wacha and Fowler let the team down more than the kid did this game.
Starting to question if we got caught up in the moment and didn’t do a proper manager search and settled.
Cabrera made 1 real mistake to Harper don’t get people saying he was bad. He and Wieters seemed off. Fowler cost him 2 runs and the manager cost him another by taking him out and putting in Wacha.
Glad they brought in Wacha hated that move. Such a terrible decision.
Wow they took him out. Weak.
I like this deal for us. We dealt from our position of strengths to fill a weakness. We have another catcher in waiting so that made Kelly expendable and we have like 9 starting pitchers so no need to keep Weaver. Goldy covers our biggest perceived weaknesses first base and middle of the order bat. Sold move and good 1 year gamble. We have a sold track record of signing players like this long term just hope the contract isn’t bad.
Only big worry now is bullpen and Carps defense at third.
I still don’t really understand with our outfield depth why we are in on Harper and not Machado? He seems like a more natural fit with the current team.
Goldy – You will have to give up prospects to get and then give him a long term contract at the age of 32. This will also move Carp to 3rd and that would weaken our infield defense.
Harper – Will cost a big long term contract and plays a position that we currently have the most depth at not only at the big league level but in the minors also.
Machado – Will cost big long term contract and has what seems to be on field attitude issues? But fits the teams needs middle order bat and a SS/3B
The #stlcards also made competitive one-year bid for Josh Donaldson before he signed one year, $23 million contract with the Atlanta #Braves

Always the samething. Cards make competitive offer but lose out.
Thought he was about a 16-18 mil per player. Braves paying extra for only a 1 year contract.
I was saying to my buddy can’t get much worse than the Pham trade the definition of sell low. Mozeliak said hold my beer. Then did the Mercado trade.
“I don’t see anything in Mercado’s toolshed that Bader doesn’t do better.”
That maybe but that doesn’t mean you have to move him for change.
More outfielders.
That is another confusing trade. On surface it looks strange. I do like Capel some I think he has a solid chance to be good.
Wow cant believe we didn’t move Norris or JMart. That is another terrible misstep.
Ouch I was expecting a better return especially with what Duvall just went for.
Interested to see how much we gave up.
I think they are waiting for the As deal to be completed as somethings from the As maybe going to the Marlins.

#STLCards making progress on acquiring Ozuna from the #Marlins, sources tell The Athletic.
9:11 AM – 13 Dec 2017Just what we need another outfielder
Giants dont make any sense. They can’t take on the entire salary the way the club is currently constructed. They would have to move major pieces to make it work. And a trade with SF makes no sense for the Marlins as the Giants have a terrible farm system and dont have any young MLB pieces that are cost controled and actually good.
How does Stanton end up in SF? They litterally have nothing as far as impact minor league players go. They may have the worst minor league system right now. They will have to move serious payroll in order to take on his contract the likes of Belt Pence Cueto ect. I think they already have the most money committed for the next couple of years going forward. Dont see how they can make the prospect package work and the financial side of things.
Dont like chasing 30 year old players coming off a breakout year who strikesout a ton. Especially when he will be looking for at least 15 mil a year probably.
Go after Donaldson.
I think if available Josh Donaldson would be a better fit.
