I am starting this thread to discuss trades around the league OTHER than those involving the Cards since we already have one for that. Of course the main deadline is July 31, however as we have seen in the past, sometimes big name players can move in August (Verlander), so maybe this thread will have some relevance for awhile.
The noteworthy moves so far:
Herrera to Nationals
Machado to Dodgers
Chavez to Cubs
Hand to Indians
Familia to A’s
Britton to Yankees
Eovaldi to Red Sox
Andriese to Dbacks
Oh to Rockies
Maldonado to Astros
Soria to Brewers
Happ to Yankees
Venters to Braves
Hamels to CubsJuly 27, 2018 at 1:37 pm #62427PadsFS

ParticipantNice pickup for Tui. #10 prospect in the Mariners system. Now, if we can just get a high level (AAA/AA) high ceiling position prospect or two. Or three.

Things could get really crazy if the Nats decide to sell. Not to mention the names listed in this tweet but what if Harper, Murphy, Adams, Reynolds, etc… become available? It would be a feeding frenzy!

ParticipantPonce back up
Weaver back up
Greene upJuly 27, 2018 at 3:16 pm #62480bccran
ParticipantSorry, it’s Webb, not Greene.
July 27, 2018 at 3:44 pm #62482I don’t know much about Elledge, but they should have gotten the best lefty pitcher they could find instead.
July 27, 2018 at 4:14 pm #62486A team that is really flying under the radar is the Oakland A’s. They are right on the heels of the Mariners for the second wild card spot. As unpredictable as Billy Beane is who knows what else they will do besides getting Familia. He could be on the phone with Washington to do something big.
July 27, 2018 at 4:16 pm #62489I agree a lefty would have been preferable.
July 27, 2018 at 4:22 pm #62491These recent moves have shown me that not only are the Cardinals playing for the future but that the FO has not given up on the season just yet. Great trade getting a top 10 prospect for tui which opened up a spot along with other moves that opened 3 more spots allowing us to strengthen are depleted bullpen while getting a quality pitcher to make starts until Wacha, CMart, and waino. Return. I’m looking forward to the stretch run of the season. Not only for this season but what to look forward to in seasons to come.
July 27, 2018 at 4:56 pm #62495Phillies get Asdrubal Cabrera from the Mets. Who says you can’t trade within the division?

ParticipantHope Mo isn’t through. Lots more opportunities. There seem to be certain other GMs he likes to do business with, including the Mariners. Maybe more moves with Marlins, Toronto, Atlanta, Royals, As, etc.?

stlcard25ParticipantThe difference in farm systems is interesting…the Mariners’ #10 became the Cards’ #21.
July 27, 2018 at 7:35 pm #6250325, I would guess they rely on team reporters for their rankings. They are different from team to team. On top of different eyes of evaluation, different people have different criteria. The Cardinal expert may value relievers less than the Mariner’s expert
July 27, 2018 at 9:30 pm #62567Take it that the club has given up on Lyons?
July 27, 2018 at 9:42 pm #62572bccran
ParticipantLyons was cut loose. He’s gone.
July 27, 2018 at 9:47 pm #62575That’s not true.
Lyuons is not necessarily gone.
He was out of options, though, so he must clear waivers before they can send him to the minors, and then he can opt to be a free agent, though I don’t know why he would do that if he has cleared waivers.July 27, 2018 at 10:11 pm #62592bccran
ParticipantDFA?
July 27, 2018 at 11:01 pm #62597Paul, Lyons doesn’t have 5 years of service time. I don’t believe he can declare himself a FA if he clears waivers and the Cards want to assign him to the minors
July 27, 2018 at 11:47 pm #62603Moustakas to Brewers for Brett Phillips OF,Jorge Lpoez RP
