I don’t see where we have a position available for a big bat. 2B belongs to Saggese, and eventually Weatherholt. 3B is going to be aplit between Arenado and Donovan. LF is apparently going to Herrera and probably Burleson, CF goes to VS II and RF goes to Walker until Josh Baez forces his way up to St. Louis. Siani is OPSing close to .700 now. Find a place for hin at least as a fourth or fifth outfielder. His deffenae elite. I don’t foresee any big moves this coming offseason except for Gorman getting traded for pitching and nobody knows how that will turn oit. IMO, our best chance for offensive improvement is Bernal (now the Cardinals 3rd best prospect), a consistently improving Josh Baez, and of course, Weatherholt.

I’ve thought that Donovan would ultimately be Arenado’s replacement. Really nice to know that there are stats to support my thinking. I just can’t believe the Cardinals would just cut Arenado. Maybe Arenado will sits out more games than he ever has in his career, but they’re not going to win big next year anyway. And who knows what will happen inn 2027? The players are used to winning negotiations on every contract renewal. But this time there are so many empty seats around MLB that it makes you wonder. In other words, if the Cardinals can get through 2026, the Cardinals may not have to worry about what to do with Arenado in 2027. I think the best run franchises are Tampa Bay, Cleveland, and Milwaukee. Hopefully , the Cardinals can join that group.

As I see it we have no heir apparent for the infield corners. I’m out on Gorman. I’ve seen enough unless they want to use him as a DH. I could see Donovan manning 3B at some point, and Walker, or Herrera, at 1B. Barring that all we have is Jesus Baez or Blaze Jordan, both relative unknowns, as possible corner infield replacements. There just aren’t any other possible corner infield bats in the entire system.

This is a game where Pallante is pitching terrible, and the Padres are batting more terrible. Something’s got to give sometime.

Pallantes is living on luck so far. Betthan half his pitches are way off the plate and Padres hitters are swinging at them. Plus, Pozo throwing out Tatis was a gift, IMHO.

I can’t help but wonder what kind of a player Pozo would be if he didn’t have all that fat hanging over his belt.

I could see the. Cardinals taking a chance on Crase diring the offseason as long as Crase doesn’t take himself out of the Cardinals comfort zone. Crase has really dug himself a hole while playing for San Diego. But there must have been some reason why he looked so promising while with the White Sox.

Ryan Fernandez seemed unshakable when he came up in 2024. He has supposedly righted his ship!this year.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him being a part of a closer by committee.

I still wish somebody would explain why Matthews’ FB is 3-5 mph slower than it was in 2024 when he flew through the Cardinals’ entire minor league system.

I’d like to trade Nootbaar for a nice pitching piece, either prospect or major leaguer. IMO, Siani is still the best defensive CF in the game. VS II has not reached his ceiling yet, so I believe he will get better and better, But we still need a backup for him. Siani should get some reps in left and right field, just in case.

A reset like the one we’re going through can be kind of fun as long as there is hope and potential on the way, and as long as you don’t get fixated on winning the somewhat watered down WS every year and just enjoy the development and the play of new young players, and the actions of the organizations as they try to accomplish something.

Goeman wasn’t very good defensively at 2B, passable, but not good. If he plays 3B consistently, the same might be true. And that’s not going to happen because Arenado is our third baseman for 2026. His defense is not as good as it once was but it is still elite. Gorman still has tantalizing power, so he has trade value. I like the way Saggese plays. He seems like s gamer and he has always hit. I see Donovan as a super utility guy. Trade Gorman. Play Donovan or Saggese at 2B until Weatherholt forces his way into the lineup. We need Burleson as a backup outfielder and first baseman, IMO. Walker has turned himself into a singles hitter but at least he gets on base. He still has power potential. I’d like to keep him around until we see how that turns out. Josh Baez will get a call up and a look in 2026. By the time Arenado retires, Jesus Baez, Blaze Jordan, or ??? should be ready for 3B. All in all I guess what I’m saying is that I see Gorman as our only realistic trade piece in the coming offseason. Should bring a promising pitcher. BTW, Bernal is now ranked as the Cardinals third best prospect.

Some have suggested that Leahy could be a starter in 2026. Sounds improbable, but you never know.

    Nice win.

After the Cubs led for 7 innings, the Orioles came back in the eighth inning and took the lead 4-3 and ultimately won the game. Cubs fall 2 games behind the Brewers.

Impressive inning by Leahy. He only threw 2 FB. He was getting people out with his slider sweeper and curveball.

That wide throw from Gorman last night destroyed the momentum of the game. Contreras got charged with the error and Liberatore crashed, so you can’t blame all of it on Gorman. I didn’t think he was great at 2B either. That said, this is the first time that Gorman has played 3B since AAA. He might be better a defensively than he looks.

    Weatherholt
    McMcGreevy
    Hjerpe
    Matthews
    Hence
    Josh Baez
    Doyle
    Bernal
    Jesus Baez
    Jordan
    Crooks
    R. Rodriguez (apparently, not far behind)

    plus a few surprises

All are knocking at the door.

I think MO is leaving the organization in pretty good shape.

FWIW – There are more YouTube videos about my Blaze Jordan. Just search ‘Blaze Jordan’ on YouTube. I don’t think anything is said there that isn’t in line with what TCN community has already been saying. Jordan does seem to be a legitimate prospect. But it’s still very much ‘wait snd see’ on him. He’s still only 22 years old and at AAA which makes him sound hopeful.

If Gorman makes a better throw to 1B, or if Contreras catches Gorman’s wide throw, the score is still 1-1. And as per comments above, if Liberatore doesn’t buckle, the score is still 1-1.

Astute observation, Pugs. Big League umpiring could definitely be improved. Bring ‘eagle eye’ up.

I read a comment by Arenado that he wasn’t going anywhere because he has a two year old at home now. It’s a shame that we have to pay him for what he did earlier in his career, but that’s what MLB has come down to. I’ll miss his defense after he eventually retires. Jesus Baez could be a sleep for 3B some day. The Cardinals are not going to DFA a future HOFer. That’s just not their style.

Interesting comments on Blaze Jordan. He is listed as playing 1B and 3B. If he’s got lead feet and can’t catch the ball, they shouldn’t say he can play 3B. The bottom line is that we’ll just have to wait and see what we’ve got. I hope he gets invited to spring training.

I’m not sure if I would classify Jesus Baez and Blaze Jordan as mid-level prospects. Baez was ranked as New York’s 6th best prospect and Jordan has intriguing stats and starts his time with the Cardinals’ organization at AAA, Memphis.

Hales just turned 22 years old three weeks ago. He is reported to have the kind of fastball that the Cardinals have been focusing on lately. This is definitely a project, but potential is there.

The Cardinals list Jesus Baez at 5’10”, not 5’8″.
