The Dodgers have just announced that Kershaw will retire at the end of the 2025 season. Not sure why he would do that since he’s been pitching pretty good.
Me either, Rat. If he never takes another turn he’s at a career W/L pct. of .698 which is 4th on the all time top 20 list. And he’s collected more W’s, at 222, than anyone else other than Whitey Ford’s 236 W’s on that all time list for career W/L pct. The top 20 of that list includes names that are spelled, Mathewson, Ruth, Grove and Martinez. Kershaw’s no joke.
Why not retire when you can still possibly give more as opposed to being showed the door. The only thing that darkens his great career is his less than great post season career. But a great career nonetheless if he indeed calls it quits.
Yeah Willie, you’d expect better numbers in the post-season from a pitcher like Kershaw. And in reality, his post-season numbers aren’t that bad at 13-13 and 4.49 in a shade under 200 innings of poat-season work. And most probably know that his some of his most lackluster post-season outings have been against our Redbirds. In 29.1 innings of post-season work he’s 0-4 with an ERA of 6.14 when facing the Cardinals. If you take the Redbirds out of the equation, his post-season numbers don’t look at all bad.
He will be one of those that goes out still having some gas in the tank, which is a good way to call it a career. A prior Dodger left hander walked away in his prime. Clay is not quite at that level, but leaves in a good place. Kind of odd how we really had his number in post season.

the RedbirdsCardinals named Matt out of the equation, his post-season numbers don’t look at all bad.Fixed it for you. Haha!
Kershaw is one of the best in every way. Wish he had been a Cardinal at some point, but it’s honorable to go out as a one team player. A rightful first ballot Hall of Famer.
Good point on the one team part, stlcard25. Not too many guys can say that these days with free agency and big money everywhere. Usually if the player does not take the money elsewhere, management will try to offload it at some point.
Even one of our own legends, Mr Pujols chased the big bucks. Not that there is any problem with that. I can’t say that had I been in that same situation, I would not have done the same thing.
