I’m not sure what has happened recently but our DSL team has suddenly turned into an offensive juggernaut. Up 8-0 after 2 innings today. They have been scoring 10 or more runs often lately. Strop finally getting really hot after a miserable couple few months of his career.

I think our player of the day is Pedro Strops son is 3 for 4 with 7 rbis. A grand slam, a triple included. Dos Santos has had a good game with a Homer. 4 perfect innings for Franco, now 5 with Chinchilla tossing a perfect frame.

19-2 heading to the bottom of the 8th. JJ is fond of giving us the “Late and Close” moniker. But that might not apply to this game.

Pedro Strop has now hit for the cycle today after doubling in his last AB. He’s 4 for 6 with 3 runs and 6 RBI. Despite his hot hitting lately, his OPS just now got to .700.

A cycle and 8 rbis for Strop. Not too shabby.

Good to see the DSL guys hitting. Looks like Branelli Franco had a nice finish to his season as well. I have some hopes for him in the future.

Mathews was ok and Ixan was pretty solid last night. Weird to have good lefty depth but basically no righty depth in the minors.

Baez seems to be heating up a little again after a slow stretch. He’s sort of the great hope of the OF for the next couple of years unless Koperniak finds his stroke for good again. It’s a lot of slap single guys out there in Memphis and Chase Davis is the only other guy in Memphis who has any hope of finding big league success. I just can’t see how the team won’t need OF help from free agency, and soon.

Even Baez seems more likely to contribute as a low average, solid power guy who can play a decent RF. His surprising SB acumen this year gives hope that he may be a solidly well rounded player if he can keep the Ks down a little.

Baez is truly the only outfielder in the whole system with the potential to be better than average at the MLB level. Now it’s possible some guys become converted outfielders to fill that gap. But right now the whole team’s minor league system is dearth of future impact position players. They have focused so hard on pitching lately that they may have forgotten the position players.

    unless Koperniak finds his stroke

It is worth remembering that there is more to an outfielder than his batting line.

For sure, but with Koperniak, that’s sort of always been his calling card. He’s not a great defender and doesn’t steal bases, doesn’t hit for a lot of power, but he’s been good for a .300ish average everywhere he’s been. If he’s not holding a high average, he’s pretty unlikely to be much help to the big league club.

I see Franklin gotbaddded to the Beach birds. Also, on a lesser note Bryan Torres has impressed me as a good left handed bat, can steal bases, and play multiple positions I know we have off that type of player, but maybe he makes it as a utility guy.

Memphis is trying to hit against Chris Sale tonight in his rehab assignment. Wetherholt going for the natural cycle as he is 2 for 2 with a single and then a double.

Curtis Taylor has put together a nice season in Memphis this year. I know that age 30 he is just a minor league journeyman but hey if any team should give someone a shot it is the rotation starved Cardinals. I would rather see what he could do in STL right now instead of Mikolas.

I think Taylor should be tried in the rotation. Nothing to lose here. Give him 4 or 5 starts.

In fact I’d like to see Henderson at AAA for the rest of the season too.

Agree C27, Henderson and Mautz both should be incase they can’t find another LHRP for 2026.
Mikolas is providing negative value so give someone else a chance.

I thought we weren’t to trust out current regime when it comes to high draft picks? Lol

Baez might have some issues manning a corner spot or from what I’ve seen or heard anyway.

I really thought Ixan would be the one to get Springfield back on track. Alas, they are really scuffling to end the year. I wouldn’t expect them to go far in the playoffs, but you can never be sure.

    I see Mathews didn’t make Brian’s standouts.
