ParticipantThis group looks like their names were picked out of a hat. There must be some sort of strategy behind these selections. There might be a plan to turn the three relief pitchers into starters. Lin can use the work after his injury plagues season. A catcher and two OFs. I’m interested to see what Ugerto does in the AFL.
September 11, 2025 at 1:27 pm #292282Seems an underwhelming group.
September 11, 2025 at 2:53 pm #292283Other than recent top draft picks that we’re all excited about, what would better selections be?
September 11, 2025 at 4:12 pm #292284Josh Baez
Jesus Baez
Blaze Jordan
Brycen Mautz
Quinn Matthews
Ixan Henderson
Luis GastellumThat would be the most exciting group.
I’d settle for Michael Watson, Braden Davis, Chen Wei Lin, Austin Love, Ricardo Velez, Cade Winquest, Travis Honeyman, Jon Jon Gazdar, Josh Kross, Zach Levenson, or Chase Davis. I guess we got 2 in that group. Too early for Raniel or Ortiz (maybe next year) and no need for Wetherholt.

ParticipantThese guys I would definitely be watching to see how they would do.
JeBaez
Jordan
B Davis
Honeyman
Levenson
Lin
Uguerto
Rajcic
Gazdar
HendersonSeptember 12, 2025 at 4:24 pm #292321Maybe they’re still trying to figure out who the cuts should be. I definitely would rather see Jnevel’s list or 14Nyquis’ list than 80% of the players that were actually picked by the Cardinals. IMHO, it’s about time for Tyler Bradt, DJ Carpenter, Grayson Tarlow, Randel Clemente, and even Travis Honeyman, to go out and start looking for a real job. Actually having the courage to get busy starting a career by working for a living, rather than chasing rainbows until you’re 40 years old, is something to be proud of.
(If I had been born in ancient Greece instead of the twentieth century, somebody might have made a statue of me for being so wise.)
September 12, 2025 at 5:18 pm #292323Bloom and his “brain trust” have a thought process with these selections. I am willing to sit back and see how it plays out.
September 13, 2025 at 12:05 am #292338I’m sure part of it is giving some of these players on the cusp on the rule 5 a chance to prove they belong on the 40.
September 13, 2025 at 6:49 am #292342Being honest, I don’t see any of guys selected on the cusp of the 40-man. Maybe one or two make it down the road.
The two most prominent players, Lin and Honeyman, are there to get more reps to make up lost time due to injury.
It may be as simple as the Cardinals want their top prospects to rest up. A lot of guys played or pitched career highs this season. As we’ve seen, pitching injuries have been a problem for this organization.

That would explain why the top prospects are not going, but not why these guys were chosen. There were a lot of other guys to choose from, and it wouldn’t have been pulling names out of a hat. Maybe once Chaim starts getting in front of microphones we will get some insight into it. For now, it is evidence that we are not in Kansas any more.

October 8, 2025 at 11:31 am #293918I can’t get over a 19th rounder in AFL. It looks like he hit some at PB. We’ll see where he is in the pecking order at Springfield next year.
October 8, 2025 at 11:54 am #293921Hardly unheard of. In the last few years, they sent a 15th rounder (Cornwell), a free agent (Loutos) and a 17th rounder (Leahy).

stlcard25ParticipantA nice article on Chen-Wei Lin and his progress in the Arizona Fall League. He’s been creeping back up my rankings since he got out of Peoria purgatory.
