Exhibit C: January 15th Mr. DeWitt: Cardinals likely done making major moves.

C is the only one that counts. After Junior said they were done he heard some heat and came up with Exhibit A and B as cover. It’s DeWitt Speak to keep fans buying tickets. I’m sure Mo went to Junior and said, Yes we have given up on the season but we don’t want the fans to know that yet so we can sell tickets.
Then Junior goes on the shows to shore up the PR debacle with more BS.
Mo and Girsch aren’t working the phones unless they’re trying to unload a time share.

Junior was right the first time…They are done.
Ozuna is the bat, Gregerson is the closer and Mikolas the starter.
    The Off-season is over.
    Start the season

Thanks for mentioning me…I think. Every single thing you said in your post is what I believe, especially the last line.
As for me being GM, I’m not sure why that is so off putting to you.
If I were GM, I wouldn’t waste money on slugs like Gregerson or Mikolas.
If I were GM, Gregerson would not be my closer.
If I were GM, we would have the talent needed to be a serious WS contender.
If I were Gm, we wouldn’t concede the division every year by lack of activity in the off-season.

But, I’m not the GM. The Troika of Junior, Mo and Girsch is running the show and despite what some fans hope, they aren’t going anywhere.

The problem is some posters and fans believe what the cardinals say. I don’t believe anything they say…only what they do.
Every off-season is over-hyped and underwhelming…this one is no different. I knew they wouldn’t seriously address the problems. I know they’ll never get what is needed and they never disappoint me.

Well, they did it and I’m not surprised. Gregerson is the closer. Third place is assured. I’m not sure why they wasted prospects on Ozuna. Without a bullpen it won’t matter what the offense does. But, for certain 3.4 million people will buy tickets again. The Cardinal front office if nothing else is amusing.

Your analysis is interesting as always. And your suggested acquisitions are sound and would certainly make the team better. The problem is you suggest acquiring those players as if the Cardinals are actually going to do something. The past would suggest they are more than likely done, save a reliever but not a top notch closer.

It’s not even a secret. I don’t think any of these so-called pursuits of big time talent are real. There may be a big deal coming but I doubt it. They drew 3.4 million people last year with a mediocre team. Cardinal fans are sheep. If they stopped right now and went to ST and opened the season with the roster they have right now, they would still draw 3.4. So, why should they do anything. What you’re hearing now from the Front Office is Cardinal Speak. They’re trying to sign everyone then later, well, we couldn’t find a partner, can’t block the youngsters, can’t mortgage the future…the usual crap. Then Mo will emerge from his lair and drop the magic solution on everyone…Bullpen by Committee. I hope they do something but I’m not optimistic. I never believe anything they say…only what they do.

14Nyquist is right. The Front Office is placing the future on the young pitchers turning into stars. They seem to have high ceilings. I hope they turn out to be everything that the Front Office hopes they are.

The cardinals start every season with big gaps…this season is no different. They have their bat in Ozuna, their starter in the guy from Japan and their closer in Gregerson. They are more than likely done.

That’s the problem with this front Office. They play scared. They’re so terrified if trading away a prospect that might become a star that they sit on all of them until the wash out and they have nothing. As long as they are scared the team will stagnate.

Why a one year rental? Ozuna as a two-year rental is bad enough.

I really hope that we’re not done with the trades or have to wait for weeks/months to get more of them…

Logan: They must find a closer. If they don’t sign a quality closer then the Ozuna deal was for nothing. But don’t expect much more action. They have the bat, starter and the bullpen pitcher they wanted so they’re close to being done.

You have to give up something to get anything worth having. In THE past we gave up very little and got very little in return. This was a bold move by the Cardinals and it’s about time. Good job Junior and the gang. But don’t stop…get some more QUALITY.

Junior would like the way you think. Do nothing, spend no money and stick with the guys you have.

Who knows, maybe they could win the WS with the roster they have right now…no moves at all.
\No moves would make Junior very happy.

Sorry, Jager, can’t buy Junior adding any major amount to the payroll let alone parting with his precious prospects. I hope he proves me wrong.

The price of everything is up and if the Cardinals actually have any interest in getting better then they’ll have to increase the payroll by a LARGE amount or settle for more mediocrity.

That’s my concern, Brian. Will there be any BIG moves by the Cardinals? One would think so but I have no confidence in the Front Office at all that they can or will go big.
Yes, it’s very early but so far they have a reliever who is getting worse every year and a starter who wasn’t good enough to pitch in the major leagues so he goes to Japan.
It looks like it could be another typical off-season of low hanging fruit and slugs.
I will forever be perplexed that they can NEVER seem to be able to go out and acquire someone who is actually good.

I don’t care about being smacked down, whatever that means.

If I was snide, well, that’s on the reader. The question needed to be asked. Players have been going to Japan because they are not good enough to play here for years. I think it’s reasonable to suspect that the level of play is second tier. If they were good they’d stay here.
But he’ll have plenty of chances to prove he’s good anywhere when he plays next season.
If he gets bombed then it is just another crap signing
If he’s successful, well, then bully for the front office.

They better keep all their outfielders. They’ll need them to play on a rotating basis to make up for Stanton’s offense.
