<They’ve gotta he looking into an ozuna extension at this point. He’s really been the only consistent producer this year. When he isn’t hitting for average he’s offsetting it somewhat with power and run production>

I have said before that he dropped Boras and got a new agent because he is looking for an extension. I hope he gets one as you are not going to get much better on the free agent market and the QO price is getting to be ridiculous.

    < Munoz is high energy.>

Munoz struck out 3 times matching Hudson. But I agree on Carpenter rest period.

<Glad for the win but it shouldn’t be lost on anyone they only managed 4 hits. 4 HITS!>

4 hits = one win. The Phillies got 13 hits yesterday and lost. Course, the DBacks got 14 its including 9 home runs. Poor Phillies only got 4 home runs. Only one number counts in baseball – the final score.

Do you happen to be in Rapid City? Lived there 9 years in USAF.

Good win and nice job by Wacha. Pulled at the best time if you remember he has been in the pen for nearly a month and no longer fully stretched. Maybe could have gone further but why burn him out with a 4 run lead.

Speaking of 4 runs, why are so many yipping about number of hits. I have always said presidential elections are like baseball. It is the number of electoral votes you get not popular votes and in baseball it is the number of runs not hits that wins the game. But I get that some say it is a sign of weakness. I go for the win and forget the stats on hits. May have been a good pitcher for the opponent (Cardinal trained) that slowed things down or maybe the subs in the game caused it. A win is a win and heavens knows that the birds really needed one of those. Now six or seven more and all will be hunky dory in bird land.

Speaking of elections I felt like it was Trump (Cards) on the field and Democrats in the booth for the first 6 innings. About all the two FS Midwest motormouths could do was gripe about the Cards last game in Chicago. McCarver is about dumb as a box of rocks on anything that has happened in the last 40 years but McLaughlin had obviously schooled him on the weekends activities. Why do they seem to get such pleasure in running down the team that is helping pay their salary in a game that they are winning. SAD.

Wong was robbed on the play where he reached third on an error. They only gave him a sacrifice but he was past 1b when the ball sailed past the base so a hit was more appropriate. OTOH Carp should have had two errors instead of the one he was given. That arm of his will get us in trouble a lot more before the season is over and his bat is not helping either.

How much longer can a team survive with an attendance of 6500+ fans and most of them were wearing red?

    Mo fun tonight. GO CARDS

I never have liked Miklasz. But to say the Cubs ’embarrassed’ the Cardinals is ridiculous. They beat the Cardinals but if every loss is an embarrassement then maybe that is accurate. What was he writing when the Cards swept them in Busch the previous weekend. Some of the scribblers I can appreciate but, for most, it is just a job where they have to produce to get paid and some of the stuff they produce (especially in the off-season) is just flat out baloney. Then they like to rate things like how each team scored in their draftees. Who really knows the value of a draftee until they reach the majors (or shine in the minors) – just more blather from scribblers. They remind me of the so called experts who rate cities or states for ‘best’ this or that and then those cities push it on their news and the scribe earns a buck or two.

    Play Ball – GO CARDS.

Thankfully ESPN has had their fill of Cubs/Cardinals. Next week it is Cubs/Dodgers so we get a break from playing a Sunday night game and then flying half way across the country to play the next day. Boy A-Rod and crew were really gushy on the boys from the ivy lined toilet bowl.

Nine hits – one run – lost game EOS same-o, same-o

Worst thing to happen in the past 24 hours – not the Cards loss; not the Blues loss; it was TCN going down before my first cup of coffee this am. I have sworn to stop reading TCN the day after a loss but it is sort of like driving by a bad car accident – you just can’t help looking.

I tried to post earlier that me, the #1 Cards fan, actually predicted a Cubs sweep, but only to my wife and she said I was crazy. I think these guys have a mental block when playing at Wrigley. But then they seem ot have a mental block at a lot of places lately.

Springfield seems to have a system: win one, lose 6, win one, lose multiple more. Guess they won’t be in the playoffs either this year (or Memphis).

OK, enough steam blown off. Back to watching my new fence being installed – replacing the one the tornado flattened in addition to other things. Be sure to keep good insurance because fences don’t come cheap any more, especially when you are not able to install yourself.

Don’t see a game 64 thread so will post here.

Wieters is really struggling with the right handed hitting. Would he be better to just stay with the left side even against lefties. Surely some stat guru can give me some figures.

When JMart looks slow at the plate one would know something is wrong with this team. But that wind did rob him of a home run early on. Last night the team just looked like they knew what was going to happen when Flaherty started falling on his sword in inning #1.

Would today be a good time to start Knizer (sp?)? Wieters is beginning to look bushed but maybe they are saving the backup for a couple of Marlins starts.

MCarp looked like he was totally out of it last night. His throws were even more loopy than normal and he was strictly guessing at the plate. Still, I don’t disagree with his attempting that bunt with two strikes. Might have started something and the left side was wide open.

Scheduling is weird this season. Now we play the Marlins 7 times in 11 days. If there was ever a time to ‘get well’ that may be it and the Mets are sandwiched in between to offer more chances to turn it around.

Okay Cards, we still stand behind you so give it your best today. GO CARDS.

< The only way to possibly fix it is to jettison Shildt, Maddux & Co. right on out of here. Sounds rash, but if has to be the truth. >

I have a fine T-Ball team in the neighborhood that has a van and can travel. I happen to blame proven major league players when things like this happen. But it isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last and we have a lot of company this season in looking like wupped pups. I read the Springfield scores every day just to see how badly they lost. Things in the pitching arena are not good down on the farm either.

< After all, as I said earlier, this appears to be a leadership problem.>

Really can’t agree with that. How did they make such a run last season and then start off this season with a lot of wins. Can leadership be that up and down? All players have their ups and downs but when that affects too many at one time it becomes what we are seeing. They will come around. It is the ‘when’ that is in question. But I am thinking that perhaps a major veteran at the trade deadline would help the pitching. I used to frown on going for Madbum. Not so much anymore.

Well that wayward bat truck did arrive at Wrigley. Unfortunately the driver had to tell the boys it was only there for a one inning rental then the Cubbies had it rented for the rest of the game with an option for Sunday.

But seriously, this was really a frustrating game to watch because while the first inning was great viewing the bottom half of that inning gave the viewer a good look at what was about to happen. Jacko just was not himself yesterday but a lot of the other Cards were and that was not good.

I haven’t read any of the other posts but I lay no blame on Ozuna for trying to make a catch that would have saved a lot of runs but was a risk to allow a lot too. Then there was the stupid ball that hit on the corner of the bricks next to an outfield door. Who coulda predicted that. That whole place is jinxed. They spend millions yet can’t put lights in the outfield and can’t get rid of that stupid ivy and pad the wall.

Only the dedicated will be watching the game tonight instead of the Blues/Bruins going at it. I have preached here about being a fan so my bed is made and I will be watching the Cards for some signs of life.

So, as is typical on these kinds of boards, I become the villain for daring to respond with another view. <Stop with the B.S. because the narrative you’re trying to shove down our throats doesn’t match reality. We’re sick of it. >

I guess this is true of 29 teams at the end of every season huh? Assuming the Cards were to win something or at least make the playoffs, how soon would they have to repeat to suit those who ‘are sick of it.’ If you feel somebody is shoving it down your throat perhaps it is time to move on to a team that can be constant winners for you. Less sickness that way I guess. Me, I will stick with the Cards since I like watching their games and the cable TV coverage costs me nothing extra. I was a Twins fan until I moved to Missouri in 2003. The won the World Series in 1987 and 1991 but not much else but I sure don’t recall their fans going bat s–t crazy with each loss (and there were many). If I go to a restaurant and they are not serving food the way I like I simply go to another restaurant. But I like the Cards, thick or thin, so I will stick with them – not happy all the time but not much in life insures constant happiness.

Word on the street is that the bat truck mistakenly went to Miller Park today but is being rerouted to the Ivy Lined Toilet Bowl by tomorrow. I dread such an appearance like todays on ESPN Sunday night. I guess I am just too old because I though fan was short for fanatic a person who stood by their team thick or thin. Seems a lot enjoy poking them instead of standing by them.

Yes you did post it to start trouble. Kimbrel has not thrown one pitch and the Twitter whiners assume that the Cards are obligated to match them. Keuchel is gone (and good riddance) and Baw-stun didn’t let Kimbrel go because he was such a great closer – they saw a decline that did not match the pay demands.

I think some of the disillusioned need to consider becoming Cubs fans. Afterall, you get to celebrate every 108 years. The twitter posts I read can only be classed (in my opinion) as mindless trolls who would whine if hung with a new rope. They should be happy that the internet was invented for what they think was their chance to foist their opinions on others who agree with them. Boards like this are about as close as I get to any social media as I don’t think normal folks care what time of day I have a bowel movement. just sayin.

The most interesting stat I saw during today’s game was the won/lost record of the Cards against all the other Central Division teams. All were dead even at either 3/3 or 5/5. I guess today’s win will tilt the record with Cincy to our side by one.

Many here seem to assume that Ozuna is gone in 2020. I would not be so hasty on planning that.

I can take it if a guy strikes out swinging with runners in scoring position but my favorite player (KW) did it today by looking at strike 3. Nothing happens until the ball is put in play so swing the darn bat unless the pitch is an obvious ball.

gscottar: Not trying to rip you but man just reading all of your posts it sure seems you are constantly yelling FIRE WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE meaning the team is absolutely dead for the season. A lot of quotes from Cubs players could just as well come from many players of other contending teams. Do you think they are going to say – “I joined this team to lose.” You could get a lot of positive quotes from Cardinals players too. Start with Goldsmith who volunteered to extend even before he had played very much here – do you think he wanted a loser? Anyway, I think we look at it different. Just a game, a nice source of entertainment for me. At nearly 80 I still say life is too short to put a lot of worry on a baseball team. Yes, there are things that bother me too about the team but I tell myself that it is just like politics – I can’t do diddly squat about anything. Have a good day and GO CARDS

stlcard25. My first thought when it was announced that Ozuna had dropped Boras was he was looking for an extension. Goold does not agree with that but so be it. Here lately you are seeing columns saying he is happy with the Cardinals and while it is true that Mo criticized him for his off season routine he seems have taken that to heart and it shows in his attitude and performance. Yes he gets a lot of rbis because of batting position but at least he gets them. We have had some empty bats there in the past few years.

As for the logjam outfield, my thought is that if he doesn’t show some improvement in the Ks ONeil will be the one looking at a new home. JMart is playing super cheap and, while he is not hot right now, has a record that can’t be ignored offensively and has shown some improvement defensively. He and Matt Holliday were probably on a par defensively. He does have a surprisingly good arm.

I sure hope they don’t trade away Carlson. He is impressive and probably ready for AAA if room can be found. What does Fowler have left after this year – 2 years? That contract along with Cecil was probably a mistake but at least he does produce from time to time. Cecil is yet to earn his first million….lol.

Being the new guy here I continue to be amazed at how many negative nabobs inhabit the place. Most surprising is that all it takes is one loss to set them off. Reminds me of the MLB boards before they killed them. I will stick here because there is a lot of info on the minors and prospects but, some days, it seems that every member of the team (except Yadi the God) is hung for some transgression in the last game. I do see some blame deserved but most of the time it is on a group – pitchers, offense, defense or bullpen. Brian should get credit for continuing to keep plugging holes in a leaky boat.

My one contribution for today: Ozuna is open and probably pressing for an extension but if nothing comes soon he may be waiting for free agency. I see a lot of improvement in him this season and would hope he is extended. I think that price will be more reasonable than trying to match free agent offers.

I lied, I do have one more contribution (or as some call it a WAG): I am thinking that Wacha will be added back to the rotation before he becomes too ‘unstretched’. I am hoping they don’t try to put CMart back in as a SP.

Is it my imagination but will one of you stat folks tell me how many times when we score one run in the first inning we wind up losing the game and score ONLY that one run? Two pitches into a game and our total offense has shot its wad. SAD You can shake, bake or stir that lineup but until somebody can start to consistently hit we are losers. Can’t continue to depend on the other team’s errors or bad pitches once in a while. My solution…? I don’t have one so I guess that’s why they hire all those experts to figure out that kind of stuff.
