It’s pretty simple as to why Wacha because it’s the only reason that makes any sense. They want to see if piggybacking Cabrera will flip the switch and they’ll see something to throw him back in the rotation. I think it’s a bad idea but if he throws 3+ innings and looks better then maybe something might turnaround. Remember they’ve got some money invested in him and they’ll try and bleed him for as much as they can.
I think Woodford should be given a chance the next start. He might be able to give 6 innings. Granted you’d have to add him to the 40 man, which you’d have to do before the Rule 5 draft any way.
There’s enough dead weight on the 40-man that shouldn’t be a big deal getting him added. However, are any of the pitchers we all want to add going to hit and score runs? Because it doesn’t matter how the good or bad the pitching is when the offense has been anemic for over a month now.
What it boils down to is Genesis Cabrera wasn’t even remotely ready to be on the 25-man roster and the FO shoves him down our throats and acts like, with the help of the FSMW crew, that we are crazy and unintelligent when he show our displeasure in being treated like fools. Stats matter for a reason, even in Triple A. But here you have the Cards FO and Danny Mac mocking us.

Yeah the pitching has improved slightly in the rotation but I don’t know what you can do with a lineup of streak hitters unless you have some you can simple trade away and replace with something better. Just simply isn’t 3-4 guys on any given night this team can rely on to produce. They’ve got that in Chicago and they’ve got that in Milwaukee. We don’t have it!
So we are left yet again with an ownership hoping, wishing and wanting to luck their way into a postseason bid. How about go out and make something happen for a change to get this team what it needs?

So who can we add to that 40 man to make this team better?
The pitching giving up four runs is not awful, but the focus on the starting pitcher is much easier than trying to figure out what is wrong with the offense. When you can only score one run, you are going to lose most of the time no matter who is on the mound.
<WTH did we bring in Wacha for? It’s not like our relief staff is worn out. The only thing Wacha can do now is make blowouts bigger blowouts. He should at least come in with no one on base. He should not be far from beng outrighted or DFA’d.>

If somebody volunteers to stuff an oil soaked rag in Brad Thompson’s mouth, I will provide the match. Normally I like watching muted games but I am now to the point of even hearing his nonsense through the mute.
Is it my imagination but will one of you stat folks tell me how many times when we score one run in the first inning we wind up losing the game and score ONLY that one run? Two pitches into a game and our total offense has shot its wad. SAD You can shake, bake or stir that lineup but until somebody can start to consistently hit we are losers. Can’t continue to depend on the other team’s errors or bad pitches once in a while. My solution…? I don’t have one so I guess that’s why they hire all those experts to figure out that kind of stuff.
I am not surprised by the result of last night’s game.
1. We were coming off of an emotional series therefore we were flat.
2. The Reds had their best pitcher on the mound.
3. Cabrera is not quite ready for prime time.We had better get our minds right and ready to play. The glory of last weekend is over. The Reds would love to sweep us and the Cubs are 2-0 since leaving town and will be ready for payback this upcoming weekend.
As excited as the #STLCards may be about the future for Genesis Cabrera, he looks like a pitcher who could use some more time to develop in the minors.

Both Cabrera and Hicks need more development time. But the club is a few pitchers shy of a load, like most teams, and thus they are hoping that these not-quite-ready-for-prime-time guys can hold their own enough to bridge the gap.
Saw where the Cubs are going for Kimbrel. If he is vintage, then the gap between us and them will widen.
Oh, and 6 hits, 4 walks while striking out 14 times is deplorable.
If that is what your offense does, you do not deserve to win.
