Thanks ATSOTC. I am trying. Kinda like a little family of baseball nuts here. Appreciate the back and forths even if we all get grumpy and happy at times. I am really going to miss baseball and hope they can get most of the season in.

My second favorite, NASCAR, is going to try it with empty seats. They must figure they will only have to suffer through two or three races before they can open the gates again.

Well I guess what goes around comes around. I started this thread with Brians approval and in that first post I made a comment that if a positive case got close to me I would be hunkering down. This afternoon they announced a 20s person returned from Austria and called themselves in to one of the hospital remote clinics which arranged a test in an empty waiting room with appropriately gowned and masked technicians. The person was positive, the first in Greene County, Missouri, city of Springfield which, as the crow flies is about 3 miles from me. So now my pulmonary rehab exercises at a Springfield hospital exercise facility are, for me, a no-go. I just can’t afford to take the chance. Thankfully the wife gets her exercise by walking the dog a couple of miles most days. My rehab is usually with 40 or 50 seniors who have either cardiac or pulmonary problems. I would think this would for sure delay any start of the Springfield Cardinals baseball season even if delayed and this virus is communicated locally. I will miss baseball a lot but I will miss my daily activities, limited as they are, even more.

Fowler went 1-for-2 with no walks or Ks today. His third hit of the spring was a single.

About the ugliest single I have seen this season. rolled by one player and the second guy flat muffed it but enough to be called a hit I guess.

Good study ED. For me the most disheartening part was:

Also, the China CDC study shows that for coronavirus patients ages 70 to 79 the death rate more than triples. For those older than 80 it’s more than six times as high.

Mud – I think the disease is also communicable via bodily contact such as a handshake and then you put your hand to your face and the virus can pass. I am very happy that younger folks have a much much higher chance of survival. The big flu epidemic of 1918 took millions. I remember going through one cemetery in a very small North Dakota town and saw row after row of burials with a 1918 death date.

Baseball? I hope they can play and even if the season is started with no attendance I feel a point will come when things have leveled out and new cases dropped to the point of having regular attendance again. We can all hope.

It is becoming a question now if the Cards and Rangers will open the new Texas Stadium on March 23 with or without fans. Seems silly to have an exhibition game with no fans. As for opening the season in Cincy on March 26, I think MLB is still pondering that one.

And I think I’ve typed enough here for you guys to know that I’m not much of a fan of government solutions, in general.

ATSC, I get your point but not all government is bad. It is when the politicians get too involved that things can go wrong but agencies are generally top notch in what they say and do. I do trust the health agencies such as the CDC and NHIC. Also the military and their leaders. But I won’t go any further because I started this thread and I promised to keep it nonpolitical.

Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but major league minimum salary for Ravelo is probably more than he would make in Korea. IIRC MLB minimums are approaching 600K.

In the end, I feel probably everyone is going to come in contact with it in some way or another. You will either get it or you wont. More than likely if you do, you wont die.

Gee thanks Willie. That last sentence makes me feel better being as I am 80 with COPD…..LOL

Right Brian. They are trying to keep the players pure so they can play but they can’t control what they do otherwise. Also the bit on presigning items to give away still means they will be within 6 foot of somebody with the virus. As I understand it people younger than 50 or so are pretty safe and can recover in due time with little effect but it is the old timers who have to worry. Not many old time players but there are some old time reporters…..LOL

Nancy Armour is the absolute worst sports reporter in the history of all reporting. She must back up to the pay table. I have seen her write junk on NASCAR, MLB and NFL.

I don’t understand how Williams is getting so many looks – and they have not, for the most part, been impressive.

Willie, I agree on Williams. I am surprised at how much playing time they are giving him in RF. He will not be heading north.

I am very surprised at the lackadaisical look of the Astros. We have played them four times including a couple with their ‘names’ in the lineup and yet they have not shown any inkling of being the kick arse team they are supposed to be. Maybe there is a mental side to the cheating scandal afterall.

Edman is a good player and will be a big part of the team. The fact I do not see him as an every day starter seems to bother some.

Doesn’t bother me at all. We are all entitled to our opinions even if they are wrong. Based on Carpenters aggressive bat performance today (3 strikeouts) I would think that Edman may be an inch closer to a permanent job — that is until Mo brings Arenado in.

BTW – I do not do Twitter but I do read the posts from Twitter made here. Some non-TCN folks on Twitter make me wonder what they do to educate themselves. The gripes about Munoz’s release tell me that the great unwashed just spout off without putting their brain in gear or doing a tiny bit of research. JMHO.

From what I can see, Randy Arozarena seems to be making himself the Dylan Carlson of the Rays. BA .571 amd OPS of 1.500, playing RF. Jose Martinez, not so much. Playing DH and 1B.

On at least 3 occasions this ST I have seen this name at First Base for the Rays……..Jose Martinez. Do you think they are working with him to make that his alternate position when not DH. But he is only batting .153 at present.

I heard on one of the broadcasts the other day that this season there is only one live feed in the video room. All the rest are on delays. Anybody else hear this. Since they cut the managers time to call for a review for 30 seconds to 20 seconds I would assume the live feed would be needed by the replay guy for getting word to the manager.

If you do have to go out and can’t wash your hands consistently you can use hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol based.

CDC is now saying just regular hand soap even in cold water is enough if you wash for 20 seconds or longer. Passing through Walmart yesterday and ALL of the sanitizer is sold out. We already have some on hand and did buy one big jug of antibacterial hand soap to keep our small containers full. Had to laugh when the Walmart guy told me there is a big run on toilet paper. I guess if you are quarantined it can be helpful to have a good stock…LOL

As for baseball, at least the players have the benefit of youth on their side but it is the crowds that may be most affected. I don’t thing they will be able to stop it completely but if folks take it serious the spreading can be minimized.

I am 60 and thinking of not taking the trip to Jupiter my wife and I have planned in about 10 days

Smart decision ED. There is always another day and a safer day. At 60 you will have plenty of chances.

I hope the virus is under control long before that.

Amen to that for sure. I keep forgetting about that London series. I have to look and see if it counts as a Cubs or Cards home series (or one of each would be the most equitable)

Although Diaz has kicked around the MLs, he never returned to those magic days with the 2016 Cards.

Wasn’t he traded along with Grichuk and one other to Toronto for more than just one player in return? Anyway he did windup with Houston and is still there and playing behind Correa and I think he has also played some left field. Not too bad to stay with a MLB team.

Back a few pages is a chart that shows which players were at bat most and least often when the audible banging was recorded.

Brian that was a great chart. I wonder if you might pass it to Danny McLaughlin. Most of the razzing the other day was against Altuve who was probably of the big names was least likely to use the banging – only something like 24 times in 800 pitches or 2.8. Dan did not seem to be aware that such a chart existed. Plus Jose is a free swinger of the highest order. Not much good a bang does to a guy like that.

As I understood it 14 the can banger had a video monitor on a table in the dugout hallway so he got the feed from the CF camera and either he or an assistant banged the can. Hinch says he deliberately knocked the table over twice but did not take action to shut it down. I am sure others have more info.

Don’t know about the arms of Carlson and ONeil but Jose Martinez had a great arm. Nailed runners at 3b and HP from RF.
