The expectation now is that the start of the regular season will be delayed as well. MLB will be making a statement today on this.

So much still unknown. Wondering if minor league spring games will be canceled, too. Usually attendance is low. However, wouldn't fans already already in FL/AZ just migrate to the back fields with no MLB games being played?

Interestingly, April 9 is also the soonest MLB would start the season based on their “at least two week delay” announcement today.

The #Brewers are having an optional workout Friday, no official workouts until Monday, with no media permitted on the complex until Monday. The workouts will be closed to the public.

Cardinals immediate plans less clear.
Cardinals President John Mozeliak said players will report to camp tomorrow for a morning meeting. After that, TBD. Whenever the season resumes, he said he would imagine a brief camp, like before the strike shortened 144-game 1995 season.

Since it appears that we will have an abbreviated season, if any season at all, there are so many things that will have to be figured out.
How will scheduling work? Will the entire schedule have to be revamped or just use the current schedule? Using the current schedule would cause teams to have a disproportionate number of home/away games.
How will contracts/salaries work? Will players get a prorated portion of their salary? If a player has two years left on their deal will that stay the same?
How will service time be calculated?
Also, if regular season games end up being played at spring training sites or in front of empty stadiums how will teams function with the massive loss of game day revenue?
For anyone who has plane tickets to Jupiter this weekend, there’s a place called ‘Rosemary Square’ in West Palm Beach that has a nice movie theater and lots of nightlife. It’s especially good for the young and restless. Adjacent to Roger Dean stadium there is public area that has live music on weekends and there are restaurants right there, also. For the old goats and their significant others, the Manatee Lagoon is a nice stop, especially if you see a manatee swimming around. My wife and I saw one when we were there. There are also Florida State Parks close by and the everglades are not far away. If you go to John Dickinson State Park, you can take a slow boat ride up a lazy river where you might see an alligator if it’s sunny (alligators like to sun). You might also want to compare current hotel pricing to the pricing you already have. I bet hotel prices are dropping like a rock. No. I am not a travel agent. But I do plan our trips so we always have something to do.
It’s unfortunate, but such is the reality of the situation. There’s much unknown and plenty of panic. In some ways, sports and entertainment could provide a sense of “normalcy” in an otherwise crazy world. But it would involve empty stadiums and loss of revenue that I doubt teams would go for.
A thoughtful gesture to share that info, mud. Many fans now in FL are going to have unexpected extra time on their hands.
Message from the Cardinals:
“We anticipate fans will have questions about their ticket purchases for those first two weeks, as well as for future games,” said Joe Strohm, Vice President of Ticket Sales. “At this time, we are still working through our approach to handling ticketing issues, and will be communicating the details to fans soon.”
I wonder if the team and/or players will step up to help out the employees who work at Busch Stadium who are sure to be affected greatly by the delay and (likely) further cancellation. Barring a significant turnaround in the next couple of weeks, I would expect the season to be cut well down or perhaps completely canceled.
This would have been the first full series had they been able to stick to the most optimistic two-week delay…

One good idea that I saw is playing make up games during the normal all-star week.
My idea to add on to that, perhaps do the festivities and actual AS game along the same lines as the NFL, use the two days before the WS starts and the players on the WS teams just won’t be able to participate.
Well I guess what goes around comes around. I started this thread with Brians approval and in that first post I made a comment that if a positive case got close to me I would be hunkering down. This afternoon they announced a 20s person returned from Austria and called themselves in to one of the hospital remote clinics which arranged a test in an empty waiting room with appropriately gowned and masked technicians. The person was positive, the first in Greene County, Missouri, city of Springfield which, as the crow flies is about 3 miles from me. So now my pulmonary rehab exercises at a Springfield hospital exercise facility are, for me, a no-go. I just can’t afford to take the chance. Thankfully the wife gets her exercise by walking the dog a couple of miles most days. My rehab is usually with 40 or 50 seniors who have either cardiac or pulmonary problems. I would think this would for sure delay any start of the Springfield Cardinals baseball season even if delayed and this virus is communicated locally. I will miss baseball a lot but I will miss my daily activities, limited as they are, even more.
