ONeal continues to feast on Round Rock pitching. He has 4 HRs and 10 RBIs in 4 games. Urias is listed at 5’ 10”, but he looks shorter. Arozarena showed an excellent eye drawing 3 walks leading to 3 steals. Round Rock had no answer for Flaherty. Garcia struggled today. Does anyone know what happened to Luke Voit? He got pulled after one at bat on Friday and did not play this weekend.

Memphis Redbirds have out scored Round Rock 36 to 14 after 3 games. ONeil hit his 3rd HR in the last two days and the outfielders never moved. Garcia looks awesome. Two doubles tonight. Now 7 for 14 on the season. If Wong does not start hitting, Schrock looks good.

I will be back tomorrow to see Flaherty.

The Cards have 10 days to try to trade Lucas before they have to expose him to waivers. He might bring something of future value.

Any thoughts on signing Alex Cobb and going to a 6 man rotation? It would help reduce the wear and tear on some of our young and old hurlers. When Flantery and Reyes are ready, we should get a nice return for Cobb or Wacha.

Carlos scratched for “personal reasons”. Bud Norris to start.

Rangers and Angels are going to a 6 man rotation this season. I expect other teams to follow if they have success with it.

Joel Sherman tweeted: “Twins are indeed in agreement pending physical with Logan Morrison on 1-yr deal with vesting option. @jonmorosi 1st reported. I hear he gets $5.5M in 2018, $8M vesting option in ’19 with $1M buyout. With escalators can max out at 2 yrs $16.5M.”

What a bargain for a player with a 3.6 WAR last season. Morrison had a better season than Moose. Moose’s agent must be having a fit.

Rays trade Dickerso (5.95M) for Daniel Hudson (5.5M) after signing Carlos Gomez for 4 million yesterday. Seems like their payroll is going in wrong direction, which could cause them to make another trade.

Has anyone ever seen or heard Greg Maddux’s thoughts on a 6 man rotation? Mikolosa is used to it. They want to keep the innings down for Reyes and Weaver. They want to not overwork Wainwright or Wacha. Is it time to consider it?

Would you trade Flaherty, Tuivailala and two mid-level prospects (21 – 40) for Duffy and Herrera? Duffy is signed through 2011 at a very reasonable 13M a season. He had a higher WAR last season than any Cardinal hurler. Herrera is a FA after this season, but if he does a good job closing we could try to extend him. Royals save 20 million they can use to resign Hosmer and Moose.

If the bench ends up being Martinez, Garcia, Kelly and Bader it will be the cheapest bench in baseball. Four guys making the league minimum or close to it. Would they consider a LH veteran OF to balance the bench?

Amazing with a bottom 10 farm system, they could trade for Longoria AND McCutheon.

A quick comparison between Gyorko and Castellanos post All-star game last season:

    Gyorko .224 7 HR 22 RBI .692 OPS
    Castellanos .299 16 HR 51 RBI .882 OPS

and for the Jose Martinez supporters following the All-star game:

    Martinez .333 9 HR 29 RBI .989 OPS (147 ABs)

Do we need to consider platooning Gyorko or Martinez with Carpenter (depending which side of the diamond he ends up on)? Here are Carpenter’s numbers vs lefties last season (ouch):

    Carpenter .202 2 HR 12 RBI .664 OPS (109 ABs)

Over the last 3 seasons he is 104 for 441 (.236) against lefties. I had to go back to 2013 to find the last time he put up good numbers vs lefties.

Had Gyorko driven in 101 last season instead of 67 we would not be looking for an upgrade.

The Tigers are listening to offers on Nicholas Castellanos who is only 25. 26 HRs and 101 RBIs last season. He doesn’t help balance the line-up since he hits right handed, but a left side of Castellanos and DeJong, 24, would be fun to watch. He, like Ozuna, has only 2 years of control left. MLB Trade Rumors projected arbitration amount for this season at 7.6M. That should leave plenty to improve the pitching.

I find it interesting that posters who said we would never see Pham again after he failed to make the team out of Spring Training who now think he is worth a King’s ransom. We could solve all the Marlin’s payroll problems with this trade: Pham, Wong, Flantery, O’Neil and Fernandez for Yelich, Castro and Ziegler.

Rather than trading prospects for Donaldson or Longoria, why not move Carpenter back to 3rd and sign Hosmer? Another left handed bat would balance our lineup. We have made deals with Boras in the past.

Do you think we will see the Cards trade away some of there surplus international bonus pool money? It has to be hard to use it all when you cannot offer more than 300k.
