Note to self: Never again post an Opening Day roster story five days early. Updated (again) article with a number of firsts for the new projected roster, including MLB debuts, 1st Opening Day, #stlcards debuts and more. (free) https://t.co/VsRf4xMzZNpic.twitter.com/ImcfYGdDU4
11 non-roster invitees remained at the end of #stlcards camp. You know Jordan Hicks and Francisco Pena were added to the 40-man and 25-man rosters. If you can't recall all of the other 9, I recap their spring results here. (free) https://t.co/gZr9ZLE7fZpic.twitter.com/VihDi8zow3
I was asked about that on Twitter. The specific question was whether they could pull Lucas back from waivers and then try to negotiate a trade. The answer to that is “no”.
Also, on a side point, the DFA period was shortened from 10 to seven days in the new CBA, leaving less time to maneuver.
They would have to try a trade before putting him on waivers, which are irrevocable. Unless a team really wants him, they aren't likely to give much since they know he will soon be on the waiver wire for the taking.
