They used to play at AL Lang field in St Pete Beach. Had some wonderful times there before they ruined the vibe with major league pricing. Now I just head to Springfield if I want to watch baseball without getting ripped off.
I’m not going to get bent out of shape about it. I learned a lot when the Rams left St Louis. I learned it’s unwise to get too emotionally invested in these pro teams and that life goes on, and actually quite smoothly. That includes the Cardinals, who are a lot more important in the big picture when it comes to entertainment. JMO the Cardinals don’t care about the hard-core fan. They care about the average fans who make up the majority of their attendance along with the corporate buyers who purchase blocks of season tickets and private boxes to entertain clients. And they’re good at keeping that fan happy. When that fan gets alienated and loses interest and when the corporate pepole can’t give their tickets away, that’s when they will have killed the golden goose. Me? I have Direct tv for only one reason- to watch the Cardinals. If they stink it up I’m canceling and heading to the basement to tie flies and listen on the radio. It’s cooler there anyway and radio is actually a pretty good way to take in the game.
I’m happy all of our young core are still here. Let’s hope one or more of our young pitchers emerges as something more than a 4th or fifth starter, because they’ve made their one big acquisition. Hopefully it will be a fun season watching baseball being played, because it sure isn’t any fun watching this organization operate anymore, but I will wait before I hate. Maybe this is just the way it has to be for most teams. Baseball on the field and daylight savings time can’t get here quick enough.

The Cardinals need to shuffle the deck. Not extending Goldy would be a place to start, IF they use the money on upgrades. We all know we probably are going to need to buy another SP in 2025. It would relieve a lot of the awkwardness of the current roster.
The Cardinals have bent over backwards to honor their on the field legacy guys. If MO only has 2 more years, is this team, as constructed, really how they roll his next to last year? They have to add something else, right? Otherwise, just rebuild.
They traded 2 tor pitchers and 2 pretty good mob’s. This isn’t all on the player development people. I don’t spend all my time looking in the rear view, but this situation lies squarely on the front office decision makers. Including not having competent on field manager.
I just don’t think 2 bullpen arms and Sonny Ĝray is enough to win the division. Hopefully they add something more substantial.

That’s fine. Than they should just rebuild. But they want their cake and eat it too. They want those 3.5 million clicks of the turnstiles. Sony Gray is the only real add. It’s not enough.
I would have never signed any of the guys they did. Just go ahead and rebuild. I’m happy we still have the young core guys. I hope this “innings eater” approach works. And I realize spring training isn’t here yet. But unless they add somehow, I’m skeptical of anything more than a 500 team. And when I say add, I don’t mean a couple reclamation bullpen arms.

I was at the game in 1998 when McGWire hit his 63rd hr. But I hated that season with all the focus on an individual record while the team pretty much sucked.

I agree. I think Winn could be the guy. He has a lot of energy. If he can get on base his speed and baserunning combined with that cannon could be contagious for the other young guys. Longshot? Scott2
I kind of agree with Bling. It’s the shopping season and we all covet new toys. But unless you get another top of the rotation pitcher, a couple relievers aren’t going to make the difference between being good and being average. Turning the defense around will make a difference. Solid managerial decisions will make a difference. Winning would make a big difference with our young core. I think for me seeing an energized team that plays hard AND smart is what I need to revive my interest in the team. That certainly wasn’t the case last year.
Swing and miss guys aren’t a cure for poor defenses. It just gives them fewer chances to make costly errors. Poor defense was problem 1b last year. It must be cleaned up for us to turn this thing around. If Walker doesn’t show marked improvement the first month or so, we need to rethink his role. He already had an entire season as a learning curve.
If Carlson is traded, who is our CF capable 4th OFer
Mo’s already got his lineup set. Carlson is your 4th outfielder. Until Scott is a major leaguer, Carlson is a Cardinal. Or Maybe Carlson is healthy and winds up back in the conversation as a regular. In which case there’s lots of options as to what happens. Especially If Winn can produce on offense.
It’s reported WS asking for a bunch of prospects for Dylan Cease from the Reds. For the Cardinals to match that you would have to give Hence Roby Saggesse and a couple lower prospects. Hard pass. Bolster the pen as best you can and roll it out. Im ready for spring training. It doesn’t matter who you add at this point. They won’t make you ws champion. This team as is has to jell. If the bad taste of last year has guys determined and hungry we will be good enough to make a trade deadline move to bolster our playoff chances.

You didn’t know he’s the devil? I’ve maintained my stand on MO forever. Can you do better? Probably. Can you do worse? Much. Nobody enjoyed last years debacle. But it’s not fair to judge MO by that. Has he done what I would do this off-season? Not even close. But I’m not going to personally attack the guy over it. I’m gonna wait and see. He clearly had a plan. The one thing I hope is they learned their lesson on keeping clubhouse issues in the clubhouse. But I wonder.
But all cynicism aside, it is the holiday season and I am going to look at this from a glass-half-full perspective.
I’m exactly where you are. Baseball is a game of patience, and I would be in favor of a longer rebuild if it meant strenghthing the organization for the long haul. But that’s not what they’re going to do. So I’m not going to whine. The rotation on paper is significantly better and we haven’t given up anything but $ and a draft choice. Spend a few more bucks and trade from your positional redundancy to improve your bullpen. You are going to need it. If everything clicks make a move at the trade deadline for a stronger front of the rotation guy.
“Accept the things I cannot change”. Sonny Gray was my last choice, but it’s done so I’m not going to spend any time complaining. He has a good upside so i’m going to focus on that. You can’t deny our pitching should be better. Strengthen the bullpen and roll it out. The up side is we didn’t have to trade any young players with value. Now just figure out how to use them.
I just heard Jeff Jones say that if Sonny Gray is our starting pitcher opening day, it was a bad off-season. Anyone besides me agree with that? He also seemed to think, fwiw, that the Cardinals will definitely be serious players for Yamamoto. Said flat out he knew many inside the Cardinals org were pushing for it. Guess what really matters is who that is and where Yamamoto ultimately wants to go.

If Mo is counting on them to put wins on the board it is similar to his delusional off season last year.
If they sign Yamamoto and make a trade for another guy better than anything they have now, it’s a monster offseason for MO. If nothing else is added, it’s as you say.
I say snarky thinks about this guy from time to time. But he has this right. Thats why he wrote the Colomb. To remind us he predicted it and got it right. (See-snark)
