Another look at some very talented young players in today’s lineup. The future seems bright if some of the young pitchers develop into productive MLB pitchers.
March 13, 2024 at 1:31 pm #243913Not very much offense out of the “talented young players” yet today. Good to see Carlson rip one though.
March 13, 2024 at 1:35 pm #243915And another extra base hit by Burleson.
March 13, 2024 at 1:44 pm #243916Guys, there is already a topic here called “2024 Spring Training Game Thread”, where each game is discussed, including today’s.
March 13, 2024 at 2:51 pm #243923This place blows. Like the Gulag with Brian running the thought police and tools like xxxxx. I’ll take my “free account” business elsewhere!

March 13, 2024 at 3:33 pm #243928Personally, I like a forum like this. Brian just wants Cardinals baseball talk. Not a bunch of hateful rhetoric and harassment.
March 13, 2024 at 3:50 pm #243930This forum is great also the pitching was really good today Thompson should be in the regular rotation
March 13, 2024 at 3:59 pm #243932Looking forward to your scout buddy’s take on Saggese. Maybe what his ceiling could be.

KeepComingBackParticipantThe classic great season I look at where a guy hit for average, but not home runs yet was very valuable was Dick Groat’s 1963 season. Good average, lots of doubles, but only 6 home runs. Give me guys that can do that and I have no complaints.
Tony Gwynn only hit double digits in homeruns 5 out of 20 seasons, with 17 being the highest. He was pretty good.

March 16, 2024 at 6:20 pm #244273Gwynn could have ripped 20 taters a season for his entire career if he’d decided to do so. Brett could have ripped 30 per season.

I followed Brett and considered him the best hitter of my life until AP showed up.

ParticipantAgain, Shady and Wally, please give us some statistical data and perhaps some scouting report quotes to further clarify why you like Saggese and Burleson so much. Thanks very much in advance.
March 17, 2024 at 11:42 am #244318There have been so many pure hitters over the years who felt that getting hits was more important than just hitting HR’s. In addition to Gywnn and Brett I think of Rod Carew, Wade Boggs, Ichiro Suzuki, and even Pete Rose. Alas that kind of baseball is long gone.
