STEP Camp just flows into minor league camp but the latter group is not ready for games yet.

Seems like StL finished at or near the top of the standings last spring didn’t they? I don’t read much into these games at all until maybe the last turn for the presumed starting pitchers.

ZTR – I agree. The first week of Spring training is probably a worse predictor of future performance than Punxsutawney Phil is at predicting a long winter. It may matter a little bit more over the next few weeks. But week 1 results are completely irrelevant.

Totally agree ZTR.But I just can’t be comfortable with Carpenter in the lineup.

ST scores mean very little, especially at this point. But that offense needs to get going pretty soon if they want to ramp up some excitement about the upcoming season.

It is strange they haven’t hit a homerun.

They could rip a hundred HR’s and not have one of them count until March 28th. Save the taters for the regular season.

Tuesday is a “Show and Go” day for the Cards. They don’t have to report until 10:30 and that is when the clubhouse opens for the media. So no lineup until then.

Winn will one day bat in the leadoff position, Donovan 2nd, Walker 3rd and Gorman cleanup. Still waiting on a call to see if I have to scoot on up to the Dells this afternoon, but if I don’t..
…………maybe I shouldn’t have prematurely brought this up and got everybody in an excited frenzy for nothing……..but if things work out, your’s truly will be riding high in the PBP saddle for all of today’s action. Still looking for my PBP sidekick to call the opposing team at bats. We thought we had a gem a few years ago when the esteemed TD (One Darned Tough Dominican) first came on board here, but he unfortunately hung up his PBP cleats after only about 10 games. I have no idea why I have never been able to keep a sidekick for any amount of time in the booth? Some of you have bandied about some interesting possible reasons why, but I still think it’s my 1 beer per inning requirement for anyone in the booth working with me that sets them to quickly seeking employment elsewhere. One beer per inning plus one shot of Wild Turkey for every Cardinal extra base hit does not sound unreasonable to me. Euro Dandy once proded me and Brian to make the requirement one beer for every half inning for everyone working the PBP booth vs one beer per full inning, but Brian balked, while I welcomed the proposal. But unfortunately it’s Brian whom calls the shots around here and not your’s truly. What’s for din-din tonight one may ask? How does breakfast for din-din grab you? 3 medium poached eggs over 2 slices of white toast and butter drizzled over the top, 7 beef sausage links, 3 Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies and some Maxwell House coffee to wash her all down with.

I did not realize Maxwell House coffee was still sold in stores? I see Folgers all the time, but so not recall seeing Maxwell House. Will have to look closer next time.

Bike Mike’s wife is a self proclaimed coffee snob, so it is nothing but Starbucks and Seattle’s Best at our house, with an occasional flirt with a fancy offbeat bag now and then.

Looking forward to Pugs back in the booth in 2024. With me likely being retired for the summer I might join in on a few ‘casts. Will see how things go.

Wow how’s that for breaking news! BicycleMike hopping in the PBP saddle for some games this year. Does this Thursday at high noon vs Houston sound like a good time for your maiden game in the booth, BicycleMike? On a somber note, your’s truly is presently sailing by Lodi, Wisconsin on I-90 at a rather paltry speed of 63 mph, en route to the Wisconsin Dells. But this Thursday seems like a good day to start off our 2024 PBP campaign.

Next time up after Goldy’s HR, he drove in Siani, who looked good on the bases. Walker plated one and Carlson doubled in two more. Cards up 5-1 in the third.

I could get in a better mood if Carlson comes around.

Cards win 5-4. Mikolas went four innings, allowing two runs, one earned, and gets the win. O’Brien, Robertson and Rajcic had clean innings. Pallante and Fernandez did not.

5-4 Good Guys your happy final. Mikolas wins it with 4 frames of solid labor, whiffing 4 while walking none. Paddock of Minnesota saddled with the setback. Goldschmidt round tripper #1 for the spring training Birds and yet again, no Cardinal batters registered multiple hits in a game……which is really nothing to get your feathers ruffled at this juncture.

I saw Pallante had 4 balls hit to him in a row – the first 2 being recorded as hits. Was he just kind of unlucky on poorly hit dribblers? Or were they hard hits that he knocked down?

I can’t watch any games as my subscription ran out until later this month when I can get it again for free so hopefully someone can help.

I remember one of those hit back to Pallante was a close play at first, but the runner beat it out. I am foggy on the other play. Must have been eating a hot dog then! I think that was the play where he threw to second to get the lead runner but either the throw was offline or the 2nd baseman/shortstop was not close enough to the base to get the force out. He turned a key double play when he caught a liner back to him and threw to first to double off the runner. He was able to get out of the inning with only one run scored, but it could have been much worse. Good game overall, with some good plays by Fermin and Siani. Carlson also played well offensively and made a good catch in center. And of course, Goldy hit a home run!
