My prediction is Scott plays in Memphis until the Cardinals make a trade later in the season, probably at or near the deadline. Or if somebody goes on the IL well into the season.
We need to remember that ST isn’t the same as real life. Pitchers aren’t in top form and a lot of them aren’t ML players.
March 12, 2024 at 4:08 pm #243839good post blingboy i also think we need to pump the brakes on scott a little, give him at least the all star break in aaa
March 12, 2024 at 4:31 pm #243840Yeah, if ST’ing were real life there’d be all those Grapefruit League Championship pennants flying above the ballpark during the home opener. I’m not entirely sure, but I think there’s 23 of them…

March 13, 2024 at 1:09 pm #243910A very good outing by Thompson today. Our starters have had few good performances this spring.
March 13, 2024 at 1:27 pm #2439110-0 game into the seventh when Carlson hit a solo HR (vs. a Triple-A RH reliever) and Burly doubled but was thrown out at the plate (8-5-2) after a single by Herrera. 1-0 Cards heading into home seventh.
Thompson threw four hitless, one walk innings. Five Ks. 32 strikes, 21
walksballs.March 13, 2024 at 1:46 pm #243917Riley O’Brien and Ivan Herrera couldn’t hold the lead in the home seventh. Single, two-base wild pitch that went to the screen, a walk and an RBI single. 1-1.

jj-cf-stlParticipantJust 21 walks? 😀
Did Thompson face many regulars in their lineup?March 13, 2024 at 2:17 pm #243920Haha!…I’d say that 21 walks is well within the realm of possibilities nowadays and not to be dismissed as a typing mistake. Every PA is seemingly scored as either a K, a BB, or a HR. Incidentally, the best I can tell the record for a 9 inning game for one team is 19 BB’s. That record was placed into the books in 1887, so Mitch Williams wasn’t involved…
March 13, 2024 at 2:27 pm #243921Game ended 1-1. Four hits for StL, five for Min. Cards are 7-8-3 on the spring.
March 13, 2024 at 3:36 pm #243929An impressive outing by Thompson today. Cards have some intriguing young lefties in Thompson, Liberatore and Rom.
March 13, 2024 at 3:58 pm #243931Thompson is looking more and more like that 6th starter. I’d like to see Liberatore get some outings as a middle, or late inning reliever.
March 13, 2024 at 5:00 pm #243939Saw where Lynn got booted from a game by Angel Hernandez the other day. Booted from a Spring game? How does that guy stay employed? Hernandez that is, not Lynn – although we may be asking that about Lynn at some point as well.
Nice to see Thompson looking good. He said he really worked out this winter and is ready for 200 innings if needed.
March 13, 2024 at 5:08 pm #243940How does that guy stay employed?
A positive effect of unions in baseball is that minor league players are now treated more humanely. A negative effect is that nobody can get rid of Angel.
March 13, 2024 at 9:19 pm #243963I could use him for backfill in one of our subdivisions under construction.
March 14, 2024 at 7:18 am #243971Today and tomorrow, the games are on BSM.
Note the lineup card has two left fielders. Siani will actually be in right. Error on the bench coach!
Donovan’s first appearance in the outfield is a good sign.

March 14, 2024 at 7:21 am #243972**Programming note:
After being saddled last week with a first game PBP 400 word pitch count, the reins are being loosened a bit, gang. It looks like I’m being allowed to stretch out to 600 words for my second PB effort, coming up either this Friday vs Miami or Sunday against Houston. I would also like to announce an addition to this year’s regular season game thread “What’s For Din-Din” feature. In honor of our esteemed RatsBuddy, it will be strongly urged that game threaders consume a healthy plate of catfish fiddlers on Fridays…..we’ll refer to it as CFF for Catfish Fiddler Friday.

stlcard25ParticipantStarting to become more real with the results now. We need to see guys like Lynn and Gibson start to hit their season’s stride and we need it fast unless Gray will be ready by the opener.
March 14, 2024 at 12:12 pm #244010Lynn mowed down the Mets 1-2-3 with a K of Alonso on a breaking ball. No first inning trouble today.
March 14, 2024 at 12:15 pm #244011Early congratz to BDon…about to be a new papa. Really good running catch into the LF power alley.
Get to the Hospital…what are you doing??? 😀
March 14, 2024 at 12:23 pm #244013Hopefully it is a scheduled C-section or inducement planned.
March 14, 2024 at 1:11 pm #244017Four clean innings for Lynn. 1 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks.
March 14, 2024 at 2:10 pm #244021Once the season starts I will quit whining about the oldsters and pull for them. I expect them to be slightly above 500 as a group. (Lynn Gibson and Mik)
March 14, 2024 at 2:21 pm #244024Offense held to three hits, all singles, and fanned 14 times in the 0-0 tie. Mets also had just three hits. Cards are 7-8-4 on the spring.
After Lynn, five relievers threw a scoreless inning each: Helsley, Romero, Gallegos, Kittredge, Leahy.
Friday night vs. MIA: Matz
Saturday at WAS: Mikolas
Sunday vs. HOU: LiberatoreMarch 14, 2024 at 2:42 pm #244026Far from the most exciting game ever, but the pitching looked good and 4 of the 5 relievers will be headed west.
Still trying to see how Lynn is in “great shape”?
