With any other organizations you would think this was a joke but with the cardinals management, inept moves like this are common place. He had never done anything to warrant being the Cardinals manager in the first place and def hasn’t done anything to rate an extension at this point. This could and should have waited til after season. Now it’s pretty clear no matter how bad the Cardinals do, they aren’t moving away from him This organization has def has left its cardinal ways behind

They reward mediocrity. No head explosion for me. I don’t have a head, it exploded when they signed Lynn.

He may not last the length of the contract. They may have to eat some of it if they let him go after another bad season or two.

It’s not like this guy makes a lot of money anyway… I’m guessing $4 million tops a year and they probably have buyout language in case he tanks again this tear

Ollie Marmol just managed the team to its second last-place finish of the past 100 years.

For the analytically inclined, he also led the club to its worst run differential since 1916 (outscored by 110 runs).

I wonder what sort of contract extension he’d have received if he hadn’t led the franchise to perhaps it’s worst season in more than a century.

This was to be fully expected. It’s Johnny’s way of thanking Cardinal fans for all the nice things they say about him…Johnny’s smiling like a possum eating a sweet potato.

If this is true then it’s another chuckle for me. Nearly every person they acquire is between
mediocre and bad…Gray as the exception I’m not a detractor or a fan of Marmol. My only concern about extending him would be what did they see from Marmol that would suggest to them that he was going to lead them to success?

Maybe this is Mo’s way of showing Yadi what he thinks of him skipping Spring Training.

I am a little surprised. They dodged a bullet in his first season when Pujols and others got hot in the second half. Last year was extremely disappointing. The Front Office believes they have built a better roster and have confidence for improved on-filed results this season. However, I thought the Front Office would have waited to see how the team performed during the first half or so of the regular season. They clearly acknowledged a leadership gap last season. What if bringing in all the veterans does not work? What if player dissatisfaction becomes an issue? What if game mismanagement is an issue?

No turning back … Locked in now ….

    Well, hell…..

This isn’t college where a coach has to worry about recruiting.

Extending him now does not seem to make any sense.

This seems like a big middle finger to the fans.

Somehow I doubt Cardinals management got their calendar mixed up and think today’s April 1st.

No, I don’t think April 1st entered their minds, but it is the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day which brings to mind the proverbial luck of the Irish. I’ve heard it said that the luck of the Irish can be summed up in two simple words…”Potato Famine!”

Look it at like a minor free agent signing who we can always cut if he stinks it up again. It will give Oli every chance to succeed, but it will not stop change if that becomes the course. It is a vital investment that the organization had to make.
We all want a winner, but some question winning moves like Mo just forced Oli on us longer than we could possibly be expected to endure. What we can’t endure is losing, and Oli and losing are not simply synonymous.

Neutral. Can’t decide why I should care. An experienced field manager isn’t coming. The next puppet could be worse. Whatever.

I tend to guess that the current Redbird manager may not be quite the so called puppet that some think him to be. He may have so much genuine influence over the ownership group of this organization that Johnny is tremendously frightened of him and wouldn’t dare offend the guy by not offering up an extension…Like him or not, you have to acknowledge that Johnny possesses solid survival skills…

Certainly a puzzler. I, and probably every other cardinal fan, thought they would at least see how the club was playing by around the mid-point of the season before making a decision one way the other on the manager.

They must think he is like a good prospect – was a bit overmatched in his first year without the franchise icons, but he will get better as he gains the reps and experience.

This could be “That ’70s Show” we are looking at over the next few years.

I don’t know which amuses me more, the see-through pants or the Ollie extension.
