For a Cardinals organization looking to add more athleticism throughout its farm system, Condon checked nearly every box.
Cardinals believe they found the perfect fit
The Cardinals were thrilled Condon remained available at No. 13. Director of scouting Randy Flores revealed the organization became so comfortable with Condon during the pre-draft process that they barely conducted a formal interview.“We just called him in, and we didn’t even interview him,” Flores said. “We just wanted 30 minutes to hang with him because we had already felt like we were at a good spot with getting to know who he was.”
Condon felt the same way.
“Coming into it, I felt like I had a great relationship with the Cardinals,” he said after being selected.
“I’m very happy to be a Cardinal. I have a great relationship with most of the staff down there. I’m excited to get to meet everybody behind the scenes.”
His confidence was equally evident when asked about the Cardinals’ decision.
“They made the right decision,” Condon said. “I’m so excited… Let me show you guys that when I get there.”

watch in the class — always giving 110% effort with plenty of emotion that shows up on the field. He’s a fun player to watch play the game, one who brings energy to whatever field he steps onto. Beyond being a spazrk plug as a player, Condon is the type of person who can help build a culture, and that’s something pro teams are sure to value.

Depending on how much Mo raids the Cardinals FO this winter, potentially it could be a serious setback, as when Luhnow left and others followed. Potentially, say if Flores is recruited away, he could then recruit others.
Honestly, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go to work for Mo and the Angels. Remember-guys LEFT Mo to go to work for Luhnow while the organization was still successful. Flores is no longer the point man on the draft. That would be Zach Mortimer. Flores is the assistant general manager. Considering we hear nothing about the real general manager, not sure how big a loss the assistant would be.
This ownership was loyal to a lot of their long term people. To a fault. Mo. Waino. Carpenter. Yadi. They offered Pujols a lot of money to stay a Cardinal. They just aren’t going to max out every single one of these contract extensions. They (appear) to be doing business a whole new way. And it’s the only way you can compete against the rich East coast West coast teams. You have to try to extend these other core guys as they come along or you are just treading water. Not all of them will sign and not all of them will be successful. And we are still a couple years away from it reaching fruition. When they do you will see some strayegic fa spending.I’m middle of the boat with this ownership. They were slow to react to the obvious failure of their old business model. I can’t imagine them going back to the old patch the holes to get to the wildcard strategy. And I’m not proclaiming Bloom Cardinal royalty yet. JJ was an obvious draft pick. The other guys we should extend are Mo guys. But I think we see clear improvements development wise system wide, and that was mostly Blooms work. Now we have to see if he can accurately evaluate the new players being brought in. That’s yet to be seen.

I don’t really care what the marketing dept. Thinks. Do you? I care what Bloom thinks and how he sells it to Trey. We have an opportunity to lock up our young core. If they won’t do it, Bloom won’t be here long.
Just maybe JJ thinks being the face of this franchise adds to the value of this deal. Maybe he wants to be here to help make the Cardinals great again. It’s a really good look him not trying to scrape the last dollar out of a contract that already provides him more money than most of us dream of. Whatever amount more anyone thinks he could have gotten, multiply by 10 in endorsements and appearance fees. Just maybe there’s a big picture he sees that others don’t.
4.5 That’s how many runs you need to score. We need to do it more often while allowing < 4.5. Future looks bright though. The players and org are infinitely more entertaining this year.
Brian I don’t mind Herrera catching 2 games a week. But we still need to sort thru for a primary catcher. Crooks has to show better in the second half to be considered.

Agree 💯. They have him working on his secondary pitches. His fastball is elite, so they aren’t trying to wow everyone with it. As Bling states, his success or failure at the ml level relies on those secondary pitches being developed.
