Not sure if Bill DeWitt would be in favor of that salary floor amount. The Cardinals would have to do a lot of spending over the winter.

I think jnevel explained the rebuild very accurately. Based on what I have seen the team is ahead of schedule, which should be considered a good thing.
I don’t know why everything is viewed so negatively all of a sudden. Because we just lost 4 in a row?? Ok, sure losing 4 in a row isn’t fun but I don’t see the need to be so knee-jerk about it. Overall this seaosn has been a spectacular success so far. Milwaukee is a very good team. What they have built (winning regularly on a low budget) is what the Cardinals aspire to do. We are on our way to doing it.
Is there still a chance we collapse and finish a distant 5th in the division? Yes it is possible but let’s wait until it actually happens until we collectively jump off of the cliff. I get the feeling some on this board want it to happen so they will have something to complain about.

Interesting article. Rosenthal suggests that some folks in MLB might not like the fact that four of the lowest payroll teams (Brewers, Guardians, Rays, and A’s) are all leading their respective division because it undercuts the argument that small payroll teams can’t compete.

Not the series we wanted but there isn’t a lot of shame by getting shut down by the Brewers. They are no joke. The Cubs are going to have their hands full if they think they are going to wrestle the NLC crown away from the Brewers.
We just need to regroup and get ready to help the Cubs continue their current miserable stretch this weekend.
Horner had a wrist injury with the Cards and it zapped his power but he was one heck of a hitter with the Braves. Horner, Murphy, and Matthews could do some damage.

The Brewers have a decent enough lineup but the main reason they win annual division titles on a frugal budget is they have a never ending pitching pipeline. No Burnes, No Hader, No Peralta, No Williams, Woodruff hurt, etc… They just shrug and say No Problem.
It really would KCB. A combination of the increased tax penalties and increased loss of draft picks would eventually change behavior. The CBT has justnever been strict enough.

I just stepped away from the grill after making some Nathan’s all beef hotdogs and some steak burgers from the local grocery. Side dishes include coleslaw, potato salad, and bbq potato chips. All washed down with a diet mountain dew. The wife made a cherry bundt cake. We don’t eat like this everyday but we like to splurge a bit on holidays.
Hopefully the Cardinal bats are ready for the Miz. Since we usually beat Skenes surely we can handle this guy right?
The Rays catching duo has been one of the worst by value delivered this year and that is with Feduccia playing a little better in a part time role. Feduccia has been horrible the rest of his big league career.
The Fortes/Feduccia combo have a 2026 WAR of 0, which is the exact same as the Pages/Pozo combo. Also, the Rays number 3 prospect, number 12 prospect, and number 19 prospect are all catchers. It sounds to me like the Cards and Rays are in a similar situation except the Cards catching propsects are a little closer to being big league ready.
I don’t like trading with the Rays because they rarely lose. Perhaps Bloom will have better luck since he is a Ray alum.
The Cubs have two different win streaks this year of at least 10 games but today they lost their 7th game in a row and 2nd in a row to the lowly Astros. Tough times on the north side right now. Such a shame.
I just came inside from mowing the yard before the rain starts and I notice that Victor Scott is 3-4. You don’t see that everyday. He will probably stick around until Church gets back unless Torres can play CF.
Pitching wins were much more relevant back in the day when starters would go between 220-300 innings per season. Now it is almost a miracle if a startger goes over 200. Bullpens are now king so a starter’s w-l record doesn’t reveal what it used to.
You might be right ATM. The Rays current catching tandem of Fortes and Feduccia are average but not terrible. Three of their top 20 prospects are catchers according to MLB.com but none appear to be as MLB ready as Crooks. I really don’t know if the Rays view catching as an area of upgrade. Their might be better fits out there.
Losing Church really hurts because this means we will probably see more of Victor Scott in CF unless Torres is adequate in CF.
I would be fine with that.

The Brewers are a machine. Yes I know they haven’t won a world series but if that is the only way a franchise can be deemed a success that is a high bar. What they do on their payroll is amazing. Their torment of the Cubbies continues as they finished off the sweep at Wrigley last night. I know the Crew are a division foe of the Cards but there is something to the old saying of the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

5. Pirates 25-24 (5.0)Gags, I think all three of the players you mentioned, along with Herrera, Burly, and Winn should be long term Cardinals but there is still plenty of time to make that happen. The Cardinals are in a pretty good spot right now with all of the long term control they possess but without all of the long term payroll obligations.
