Horner had a wrist injury with the Cards and it zapped his power but he was one heck of a hitter with the Braves. Horner, Murphy, and Matthews could do some damage.
I have two memories of Bob Horner, other than the obvious one of him with the Braves and all those games on TBS.
One is that he was on the Boulder Collegians back in the ‘70s when my ex and I were first married and located there. The Collegians played their home games at Scott Carpenter park about a mile from our apartment, so we would go down there on our bikes now and then and watch a game.
Two was from Whitey Herzog’s book. We acquired Horner and it was opening day, and Whitey went in to the clubhouse. Horner was relaxing in a chair and Whitey asked, “How are you doing?” He said Horner responded, “I’m tired.” Whitey said in the book, “Here we are on opening day and this guy is already tired!” 😀
