Losing Church really hurts because this means we will probably see more of Victor Scott in CF unless Torres is adequate in CF.

Peete just can’t seem to stay healthy.

Peete is an interesting player. Got some swing and miss but he looks the part. Just got to put it all together.

I agree with that. The 1st round pedigree and all. I think we get over excited, as usual. He’s pulling a .382 BABiP right now, so that won’t last. It might be wise to look at last season’s numbers, he was in A+ then too. I hope he’s not another Gorman. For now, putting them in the parking lot is a good way to work up through the mid levels, but at some point he needs to learn how to foul one off with two strikes. Hopefully the new crew knows to tend to that before the big league level.

I am very surprised that you say that. How many good prospects DON’T improve when repeating a level? If they don’t, they aren’t prospects very long.

I suggested the idea of looking at last year’s data because this year’s is affected by the abnormal BABiP. I am not certain what would happen to the batting line if you knocked 82 points off the BABiP to get to a sustainable number, but my guess is something closer to last year’s line than this year’s. I admit I could be wrong, but that was my thinking in mentioning looking at last year’s.

Thank you for clarifying. It is also enlightening to consider Peete’s prior BABIPs as some players do better in the stat than others.

    2023: .388
    2024: .391
    2025: .282
    2026: .382

Which one is not like the others?

In other words, his current BABIP is not “abnormal” for him.

Coincidentally, I was recently listening to a conversation on the subject of Wetherholt’s .250ish BABip, which is well below his consistently higher BABiP in the minors, and what that might imply or mean for the future. The debate ended up with it likely that hitters would gravitate toward .300, with bad hitters somewhat lower, which I agree with. It seems likely Peete’s will move in that direction, IMO, which is why I think last year’s line is worth keeping in mind. Obviously, the longer he can maintain the high number, the better.

So, you agree that Wetherholt will improve along with his BABIP! Real progress is being made!

The Cardinals website is stuck in a loop today, with four transactions for the same player.

05/25/26 C Paulo Asprilla assigned to Palm Beach Cardinals from FCL Cardinals.

I wonder if the two squads share clubhouse/locker room facilities.

I haven’t been down there since the FCL started, but always in the past, PB used the MLB clubhouse and the FCL was in the minor league clubhouse. I imagine that is still the case.

I guess its good to get a cuppa under his belt. I figure Mautz would have gone back however he did to continue in the rotation. Still, a better showing would have been nice. but now he knows what he’s up against. Now days, I wonder if he’s expected to use his game check to take the AAA team out to dinner.

Jacob Odle is being promoted to Peoria according to his agent.

Good for Odle. I believe he he leads our minor leagues in Ks. The current staff may not strikeout as many hitters now, but with eventual addition of Fajardo, Doyle, Franklin, Mathews, Henderson that should change. Odle will continue to be one to watch to see if he can do well do well at Peoria.

Is there a chance we’ll add Rajcic? He should be tried at least. You could dfa Roycroft.

The answer is “Yes” but not until an injury, trade, or release forces that. Otherwise, Rajcic can only replace Fernandez or Graceffo because those are the only 2 with options. Is Rajcic currently better than either of those two? If an injury happened today though to a non-lefty bullpen guy, I believe Rajcic would get called up.

I think Rajcic should be given a chance. I thought he might make a good reliever. I think other than O’Brien or Romero, and possibly Soriano our bullpen is not good.

I like Odle getting promoted. Another one to watch is Findlay at Springfield. He has limited experience, but if the FO has moved him to AA already they must like him.i wonder too if Franklin might join his teammate Doyle at Springfield this summer.
