Sheesh, quite a pitching mismatch based on season stats.

Oh wait, I see it’s McGreevy. That makes it closer.

The main area of concern is whether or not Front Row Amy will be in attendance tonight. She wasn’t there yesterday. I assume she knew what was coming like the rest of us.

Hopefully we can score at least 2 to 3 runs off of Harrison. Doubt it. Our offense is streaky at a .239 team batting average going into today’s game. go Cards

The Brewers have a decent enough lineup but the main reason they win annual division titles on a frugal budget is they have a never ending pitching pipeline. No Burnes, No Hader, No Peralta, No Williams, Woodruff hurt, etc… They just shrug and say No Problem.

Milwaukee’s been playing well, but I think it’s somewhat interesting that their longest streak of W’s is 5 and their longest streak of L’s is 6. The Cardinals have yet to lose more than 4 consecutive games this season and their longest W streak is 6 games. The most glaring discrepancy between the 2 teams seems to be Home/Road W/L records with the Redbirds being dead even at 13-13 at home and the Brewers sitting at a 17-11 when playing at home. I’m not suggesting that the Brewers won’t continue to play well, but I’m not at all ready to declare them as the Dodgers of the NLC…Now that I’ve said that, they’ll reel off 14 W’s in a row.

And upon further review…I just happened to notice that the Brewers have only been involved in 4 extra inning games while the Redbirds have been subjected to the make believe tooth fairy baserunner 9 times this season. That’s a lot for 52 games played.

Besides the Cardinals/Brewers game, there’s another important inter-divisional matchup with the Astros lining up across from Skippy’s Rangers in Arlington tonight. Houston’s won 4 in a row and I may be delusional, but I fully expect them to qualify for post-season play when fall rolls around.

I always liked Skippy when he was a Redbird. Most of us clearly recall that his 1st inning double pushed across Raffy Furcal for the only run to cross HP in game 5 of the ’11 NLDS @ Philly. Man, that baseball game was a genuine pressure cooker that had my heart doing a Buddy Rich drum roll for 9 full innings.

Yeah the Brewers are in a class of their own pitching dev wise. They seem to be targeting guys with the ability to develop overwhelming stuff and then teach those guys how to improve as a pitcher and throw strikes. Brewers have the best K% in baseball as a result of this.

They also seem to have a different philosophy of tovSP even shorter than the rest of the league and have multiple guys with good stuff out of the pen but slightly worse command to pitch 2 or 3 innings. Then those SP can focus even more on dominating with elite stuff and not worry about pitching deep in the game. Quite a difference in the way teams have used a pitching staff over the years.

For some reason I like the Pozo at DH look. Batting the DH 8th. And Fermin in the 5 slot protecting Burleson. Yep.

Taking a gander at the atmospheric conditions for tonight’s games:

The skies appear to be clear at County Stadium in Milwaukee. Of course, there is always the roof.

The Reds and Mets appear to be all clear for tonight’s game at Shea Stadium in Queens.

Now the Cubs and Pirates appear to be in the way of some green stuff heading towards Pittsburgh and Forbes Field tonight. Might be a delay in the mid-late innings there. Hope not because the Cubs are on a roll..:)

The biggest thing about Milwaukee is their run differential of +71 – far and away the best in the NLC. Ours is -3, suggesting we are fortunate to have the record we are sporting. The expectation is we will regress to more of a .500 mark over the long haul.

I liked Skippy as a player other than the annoying habit of undoing and redoing the batting gloves between every pitch. That drove me nuts. Today with the pitch clock and only one batter time out he could not get away with that.

    FYI here,

Bob Horner dies. He was 68. He spent 1988 with the Redbirds and was Jack Clark’s replacement.

The Cubs are down again. 5-1 in the 2nd at Forbes Field.

And it’s been an overcast rainy day here in SW Indiana. I was going to go over to the Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes but decided against it due to the rain.

Yeah, Bikemike, he probably learned that move from Nomar. I’m guessing that it was not only a habit, but also a ploy designed to annoy the pitcher as much as it annoyed the fans…Haha!

I’d have to say that the game of baseball may be the only thing in the entire universe that is capable of defeating time. If you afford this concept some careful thought, if a rally can be kept alive or, conversely, both teams can prevent the opposition from scoring in a tie game, theoretically, the baseball game will continue ad infinitum. The concept could quite possibly eclipse and far outweigh the importance of the laws of relativity…I just may submit this very concept to one of Rand Corporations esteemed think tanks.

I have a feeling the Brew crew are going to runaway with this division.

They’re handing the Cardinal’s backsides to them in this series. So far it’s been no contest.

That youngster wearing his popcorn bucket for a hat reminds me of the old cardboard popcorn containers sold at the ballpark that could be folded and used as a megaphone once you finished eating the popcorn. Anyone remember those?

    On a good note……

The Cubs lost their 10th straight game tonight. 12-1 Pittsburgh the happy final at Forbes Field.

Rockies and Doyers coming up from Doyer Stadium momentarily. Me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for this one.

Only one run yesterday. Granted it was Miserabloski.

    No runs today.

Anybody know why this team can’t score?
