Need to get one win in this series. I’ll be in attendance for the third consecutive game, but thus far I haven’t brought the boys much luck. I would think we’ll hang at least 5 runs on the board this afternoon. Let’s call it 7-4 Birds shall we.

Noot wasn’t in Memphis’s lineup yesterday after their day off Monday. If there was news I missed it being under the weather.

I assume that was done to decrease Noots travel distance to come back to STL. Memphis is playing in Omaha this week and I’m guessing they will call up Noot soon and want him to have less travel to STL for a return this weekend against the Cubs or next Monday against the Rangers.

Yesterday 1TD brought up those popcorn holders that could be used as a megaphone after you finished the snack, and asked if anyone remembers those. I not only remember them, I have a couple on a display shelf in a cabinet amongst a bunch of Cardinal’s memorabilia.

They had that cool Redbir-pitching logo where the bird is looking back with a sort of snarly look. Maybe I will try posting a photo, but I never seem to be able to get photos to show on TCN.

Hoping to avoid the brooms today.

And no runs through the first two innings today.

It would be nice if they had some players that could actually hit.

I sure would like to see some more Cardinal offense. I’m enjoying May’s pitching effort but I feel myself nodding off.

Small sample but Torres looks like an every day player.

May deserved so much better. The offense is a sham, 4 guys who are decent and a bunch of Double A quality filler.

Not the series we wanted but there isn’t a lot of shame by getting shut down by the Brewers. They are no joke. The Cubs are going to have their hands full if they think they are going to wrestle the NLC crown away from the Brewers.

We just need to regroup and get ready to help the Cubs continue their current miserable stretch this weekend.

I would’ve pulled May after the first hit but here we are. Scuffling to end May.

Cubs keep up their end and we could have the battle for loserville this weekend.

Torres does need to remember he’s not a home run hitter. He has warning track power. Mostly, his success has come from hitting singles. Don’t fly out to the track when a single ties the game in the ninth.

Winn and Gorman combined 4-49 last 7. JJ has fallen off a bit in May. Don’t know what you can do to get it going for these guys again.

Gorman is showing pretty much what we all knew at the plate. Winn I think is ailing. Hey at least both a playing good defense. Lol

I believe I heard them say on the Cards’ broadcast that they want Noot to play back to back games, take a day off, then play back to back again, then they’ll promote him. Springfield plays Thursday to Sunday, so presumably he plays there Saturday and Sunday. Then Springfield and Memphis are off on Monday, but Memphis is back home so he plays there Tuesday and Wednesday, then gets activated on the 4th. My counting fingers and toes tells me that’s the day he needs to be activated in any case. The Cards are off that day. He’d miss the Cubs and Rangers series.

I’m tempted to say they need him back, but he’d likely push Torres out of the lineup and Torres has done just fine, though if we were a little taller, the Cards might have gotten their no-hitter today.

In the last 7 games, OPS of .186 for Gorman. Noot hitting fifth could drop Gorman to 7th. OPS of .208 for Winn and then that botched play on the grounder in the 8th. He’s in a funk, but there’s enough track record that he’ll get out of it. .486 for Wetherholt. Scott has actually been ok at .683, with a .350 OBP.

    Really impressed by May today.

Trying to remember that this is a developmental year and so having equanimity. Hopefully they are working on Blaze Jordan’s D at 3B Gorman, Pages, and Scott seem like the three to upgrade for next year, with Jordan, Crooks, and Church the likely replacements. Baez likely replacing Noot as well.

Either the Cubs or the Cards have to win the next three days. The Cards rebounded well from the Seattle sweep. Hopefully they rebound here, too.

Didn’t get to see the game, but the box looks like one of those L’s that are extra special painful. Outhit your opponent 8 to 3 and still lose the baseball game 2-1 while allowing the winning run to cross HP on an E-6? A loss like that has the potential to leave one of those ugly zipper scars. Which reminds me of a page from Bob Lemon’s playbook…”I never take the game home with me. I always leave it at some tavern”…

Watched the replays. No offense but pitching was great. Some iffy defense. That double shpuld have been caught by the left fielder. Wrong track to the ball. Then winn with an error. Oh well. Ill take the positive. Mayes good pitching.

The play on the bunt seemed kind of comical.

To make things worse the Cubs have a 3-0 lead in Pittsburgh in the bottom of the 2nd.

Will they finally win a game? Or will this be the worst loss of the year for them?

It’s hard sometimes to recognize that we’re in rebuild mode. Team got to a peak and it seems that might be the high mark.

ooof – swept. Still 4 games over but this feels like an early ‘danger point’ in the season.

Remember that the high mark was generated by mostly playing teams outside the NL Central. So far, they are 2-6 with a minus 13 run differential in this intradivision stretch. Most recently, when you can only score two runs over three games, the outcome is set.

In granite. The entire multitude of baseball intelligentsia have always led me to understand that runs are extremely important…
