I still think we are sellers regardless of the standings. May and Jo Jo are going to go. Noot and O’Brien are likely to go. I don’t know if they would get radical enough to try to move Burly or Herrera.
Our trade deadline pickups are going to be promotions from Memphis. Mathews, Mautz, Gastelum, Rajcic, Hansen, and Baez will be on alert.
Since Bloom has now shown himself to be aggressive in bringing up position player reinforcements from Memphis when will see it for the bullpen? I know that a lot of it has to do with who has a 40 man spot and who doesn’t but how many blown leads should we tolerate? I would think guys like Rajcic and Gastelum should be under heavy consideration.
Gorman may not see any game action for awhile. I read somewhere that Bloom’s hired hitting gurus were working one on one with him in some isolated location. Supposedly the same wizards who turned Walker around. Good luck gentlemen.
The often used phrase around here is “this team can’t hit” but I think it should be “this team can’t pitch”. I really don’t think trying to win each game 10-8 is a sound strategy. Not sustainable.
I really don’t like having both Stanek and Roycroft in the pen at the same time. Neither should ever appear in a game we are tied in or have a lead. It should be garbage time only but that really limits what the manager can do.
I know the Cardinals have a history of playing the contract but Stanek’s $3.5M salary needs to be placed in context. It may seem like a large salary on this particular team but in most years it isn’t and for a majority of MLB teams $3.5M is a rounding error.
We have to shake off last night’s painful loss. So far this young team has done a good job of having a short memory. It will be interesting to see how they respond today.

A sweep would have been nice but if we keep winning each series we will be in good shape. Time to take two out of three up in Minnesota.
Back in April I mistakenly compared Nathan Church to Michael Siani. It turns out he might actually be more like Pete Crowe-Armstrong (minus the attitude). That might be a stretch but he could become a long term fixture for us in CF.
Now if we could solve 3B we might have a real team.
I think he took a line drive off of the leg. I haven’t heard any details to the extent of the injury. Hopefully he doesn’t go on the IL. He has been pitching rather well.
It is always about money. The $80 MM local TV deal from Oakland follows them to Sacramento, but not Vegas. Also, the 90 mile distance between Oakland and Sacramento is thought to be close enough that loyal fans would travel in-state to see them.
Good points Brian. Also, I think there may have been some kind of sweetheart deal on the lease between A’s ownership and the owner of the Sacramento ballpark.
For decades the Cardinal AA affiliate was located in Little Rock and called the Arkansas Travelers. They have had that name since 1932 and I believe it is the third longest nickname in minor league baseball. Unfortunately they are now affiliated with the Mariners.
The Brewers and the A’s played last night in Las Vegas. I didn’t think the A’s were moving to Las Vegas until 2028. Was that actually their stadium last night? Is it open already?
No the new stadium in Vegas opens in 2028. You might be wondering why the A’s are playing in a AAA stadium in Sacramento instead of just playing in an AAA stadium in Las Vegas. That is a good question and I don’t have a good answer even though I have follwed this saga rather closely.
Gscottar – I read that as “If things go well for Dobbins in his next start and not great for Leahy, Dobbins will join the rotation going forward and Leahy will be the new long reliever.”
I read somewhere else where the Cardinals were definitely going to a 6 man rotation. It wasn’t from Goold but I can’t remember where I saw it.
Hunter Dobbins’ next appearance will be as a starter. #stlcards plan to upshift to a six-man rotation in the coming week.

I have read in a couple of different places that the Cardinals plan to go to a 6 man rotation for the next several weeks. I will see if I can go back and find the link.
The Cardinals don’t have to announce anything until tomorrow since today is an off day but I would imagine it is Church up and Scott down.
We don’t have any good internal options for 3B. Saggese, Fermin, Urias, Mendoza, and Prieto probably aren’t much better than Gorman and the Cardinals obviously don’t view Jordan as a 3B because they haven’t been playing him much there lately down in Memphis. We are probably stuck with what we have for the rest of the season and maybe they will look elsewhere next year.
