After Monday’s day off in NYC
6:10 p.m.
RHP Dustin May (3-6, 4.59) vs. RHP Freddy Peralta (4-4, 3.63)
Cards.TV // KMOXUpdated: Jeff Jones originally said Dobbins will start on Tuesday, but Derrick Goold said Thursday. The latter makes more sense since Dobbins threw five innings on Saturday. We will know for sure on Tuesday afternoon when the Cardinals go back to work.
June 7, 2026 at 4:24 pm #309241Dobbins is starting?
I wonder how long they expect him to go in this one?
June 7, 2026 at 4:41 pm #309244Dobbins went 5 IP, 78 pitches on the 5th. If he goes again on the 9th it will be like the good old days of 4 man rotations. Back when men were men.
June 7, 2026 at 4:50 pm #309245The Cardinals have an off day on a Saturday this month. Anyone who spent their youth in the USA knows that Saturday is best day of the week to play the game of baseball. Strange days ahead…
June 7, 2026 at 5:44 pm #309251Church will probably be back for this one Tuesday. Velasquez may have a contract provision letting him opt out if he is sent down. He has played well enough he would take it surely. But it seems like they may not want to ship Scott out right away, letting Church play/hit himself back into an everyday slot, which would be CF. With Urias’s return now seemingly delayed, they might not want to trade an infielder for an outfielder. What to do?
June 7, 2026 at 8:06 pm #309254Bling, interesting info. I hadn’t seen that Urias had a set back.
I am unsure what they do when Church is back, but my best guess is Torres gets sent down. Torres has options but he has been okay while Velazyhas played well and doesn’t have options so I don’t think it is him. Although there is a chance it could be Scott. He has been playing better the last week though.
I would like it to be Gorman or Scott personally as both have had plenty of opportunities and the other guys who have played better like Torres, Fermin, Velasquez should get more opportunities over them. I don’t know what they do to help Gorman not be attrocious against changeups but maybe just in general a kick in the pants of a demotion may get something going in him as staying in MLB hasn’t done it.
June 7, 2026 at 8:26 pm #309257The next 6 series, the Cards have 12 games against teams with losing records and 7 with teams of records 33-31 and 34-31. That’s before 14 games against Atlanta, Milwaukee, and the Cubs. It would be nice to see the Cards beat up the teams they face the rest of the month to save up for the challenging games before the all-star break.
June 7, 2026 at 9:41 pm #309259I agree Gags, but this game with the Mets is a must win game…Same with tomorrow’s game.
June 7, 2026 at 9:45 pm #309260The weekend 3 game broom job over the Reds finally relegated a NLC team to below sea level status…The horror!
June 8, 2026 at 2:18 pm #309285Hope Dobbins rises to the occasion in the bright lights of NYC. Mets are putrid, hopefully the Cardinals as a whole win 2/3 in Flushing. Having VS II in Memphis improves the teams chances in that regard. Gorman also needs to be in Memphis (don’t know if he has options left).
June 8, 2026 at 2:25 pm #309286I have read in a couple of different places that the Cardinals plan to go to a 6 man rotation for the next several weeks. I will see if I can go back and find the link.
June 8, 2026 at 2:33 pm #309288Hunter Dobbins’ next appearance will be as a starter. #stlcards plan to upshift to a six-man rotation in the coming week.

June 8, 2026 at 2:38 pm #309290Gorman does have options Abe (2 of them still), but the Cardinals don’t really have options (at least any options that are likely better) to put at 3B. And they won’t next year either unless they trade for someone or sign a free agent. I guess if Gorman continues to strike out more than 50% of the time like he has lately, there are better internal options than that. But expect internal options to all be below MLB average.
June 8, 2026 at 2:40 pm #309291Gscottar – I read that as “If things go well for Dobbins in his next start and not great for Leahy, Dobbins will join the rotation going forward and Leahy will be the new long reliever.”
June 8, 2026 at 3:16 pm #309296Scott’s on the bus headed south to Memphis as I key this in. Church is situated in 1st class aboard the jet and headed north. He’ll be manning up as the replacement everyday Redbird CF’er.
June 8, 2026 at 3:27 pm #309298Victor laid down a nice bunt to contribute to Sunday’s W, but you don’t get paid to bunt unless you were a NL pitcher prior to ’22. A CF’er needs to bring both a mitt and a stick.
June 8, 2026 at 5:08 pm #309303I’d say that there’s multiple similarities in the overall sort of player regarding Church/Scott. In my view, the only area that Scott has a clear edge is in his ability to collect the SB. I’m guessing that Church almost has to provide more of a threat with the bat and I genuinely think he has an edge with the mitt in the OF. We’ll have to see how he performs in CF on an everyday basis, but he’s impressed me with his play in the OF. No question that manning up in CF as opposed to LF is not unlike the difference of a 25 year old Ann Margret dressed out in a negligee and a 60 year old Rosie O’Donnell decked out in her favorite moo-moo, but I have a feeling that Church won’t miss a beat out there in the vast expanses of CF. So I’d say the Redbirds have enhanced the 26 man on the off day to compliment the return of the Nootz over the weekend.
June 8, 2026 at 6:28 pm #309305It’s been clear for some time now that Gorman needs to be given a bus ticket out of town and Victor Scott’s fine defense in CF is not enough to avoid getting a seat on the same bus. Unfortunately, that leaves the Cardinals with rummaging through the broken toys in the bottom of the box for significantly better replacements.
June 8, 2026 at 6:36 pm #309306Yeah, Gorman’s been like a rerun of Gilligan’s Island. You know how it’s going to end before he stands in.
June 8, 2026 at 11:33 pm #309312FYI here,
In the Reds game at San Diego last night the Reds screwed up three straight bunts. It was pitiful. Three straight Padre batters, three bunts, three screwups. Did not get an out.Go watch the highlights. Little league lately for the Reds.

I read somewhere else where the Cardinals were definitely going to a 6 man rotation. It wasn’t from Goold but I can’t remember where I saw it.
June 9, 2026 at 10:56 am #309329The Brewers and the A’s played last night in Las Vegas. I didn’t think the A’s were moving to Las Vegas until 2028. Was that actually their stadium last night? Is it open already?
June 9, 2026 at 11:05 am #309330Back after a whirlwind 3 day trek up in Door County. You guys would have been proud of me if you had seen some of the majestic cannonball plunges I executed into the cold Lake Michigan waters…..while under the influence of mass quantities of Wild Turkey.
With the off day, I wonder if any of our boys took in last night’s Spurs thumping of the Knicks? With some of those supposed ticket prices, the cost may have been a bit too steep for them to attend unless management sprung for the event……so that would be a big NO!……they probably all watched the game on the tele.
Din-din tonight will be a trip on over to Olive Garden, where I’ll dine on their eggplant with extra cheese and sauce and a couple of Italian sausages to accompany it. Just a reminder that moving forward here, the first poster to win back-to-back Game Thread Din-Din of The Day honors will be the lucky recipient of a $100 gift certificate from Red Lobster or Olive Garden…..your choice. To win there must be at least 3 din-din entries for the game thread.
June 9, 2026 at 11:28 am #309332Was that actually their stadium last night
That was a AAA stadium in LasVegas.
June 9, 2026 at 11:45 am #309333Din-din in just a few minutes will be a speciality of Madame CiF, prepared ce soir by Monsieur CiF: chicken breasts sauteed in butter then popped into the oven with a blanket of tomatoes, onions and gouda with cumin and a cream sauce, baked potatoes, and chocolate cake for dessert.
Haven’t seen a lineup yet but have a feeling it might be interesting.
Rah Cardinals!
