It’s CCFF! Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday!

Din-din today will be out at the Amish restaurant on the lake north of town. Catfish Fiddlers, mashed potatoes/gravy, noodles, green beans, dressing, sweet iced tea, and a piece of cherry pie and some soft serve vanilla ice cream for dessert.

I am calling this game tonight 7-3 Redbirds with Gorman getting off the schneid with a big done to RF at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Not a favorable pitching match up on paper. Then again I said that about Peralta on Tuesday.

Rats I thought about you on Friday. I was driving through the area of the Amish restaurant last Friday for work and thought about stopping in for a late lunch, early dinner but ultimately decided to just continue on home.

Interesting they had seemed to have given up on him being a 3B and questioned his chase percentage, and then call him up and start him at 3B. Hope it works out for him and Gorman gets his stuff together. I said from the get go I thought he was a “Russell Braynan”, and at this point I’d take Russell Braynan out of him.

Jordan at 3rd could be an interesting experience defensively…. But he deserves an opportunity his bat has been strong at Memphis this year.

I like Dobbins as a long reliever, not as much as a starter.

The team is in a youth movement and Gorman had become unplayable as of late. They had to choose between 3 non-3Bmen who are all right handed and chose likely the best bat of the 3. I would guess they also chose the worst defender of the 3 so my guess is Fermin still gets starts in at least the Pallante games.

I really see Blaze as a good short side platoon partner for Burly and a good pinch hit option more than a third baseman, but we have no good third baseman so we will watch him try for a bit.

    Really?

Was that the Amish restaurant (Gasthof) in Montgomery or the one north of Loogootee on the lake (Stoll’s Lakeview?

And with Gorman being sent down that shoots my long dong to RF prognostication. Maybe Burleson will be the one with the long dong to RF tonight.

Interesting move. In the old days an opponent might bunt a bunch of times to see if they could exploit a lousy defender at the hot corner.

You would think there is a way to get Gorman to focus on contact. But then there is a reason a small fraction of humans have the eyesight and eye-hand coordination to be successful at the top level of hitting a baseball.

I’ve always enjoyed poking a bit of fun at the big guys in charge of things and the one they call Bloom is certainly not off limits. But I have to concede that he doesn’t appear to be at all bashful when it comes to squeezing the trigger in an attempt to improve the 26 man. Call me crazy, but I think he thinks his Redbirds have a legitimate chance to qualify for post-season baseball. In two weeks we’ll be at the halfway point of the season and at game #67 the Cardinals have the 4th best W/L record in the NL and the 6th best W/L record of the 30 Big League baseball teams. I’d say that’s a bit more than pretty good. In any case, during the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed that the kids on the field appear to have convinced themselves that they can consistently hang W’s up on the board which is always a good thing. I’d say that if the one they call Bloom has taken on a similar mindset, we have a decent chance to watch Cardinal baseball that counts for something until the youngsters start back to school. Who knows? He may wheel and deal at the deadline and trade for a genuine Manny…

Gasthof. We make a trip a couple times a month at least from Evansville area up to Indianapolis area and back. I don’t make them often anymore, but I did last Friday with another guy and its a frequent stop for him when he makes the trip to just come off I69 and eat there on the way home. We talked about it, but decided to just keep on heading south.

When the Brewers were out here there was what appeared to be a front office guy hanging outside their clubhouse. Maybe he was their traveling secretary, I am not sure. I went up to him and said, “I really like the way you guys run your club.” I went on about how they stay competitive despite a payroll in the lower half. We got to talking and I said “I think the Cardinals are trying to follow your model.”

He said he really likes what he sees of the Cardinals and that they play with a lot of passion. As much as I have criticized Marmol, I have to give him credit for the way this team goes out and competes game after game.

Well, that’s two of the weak links gone, at least for the moment, lets hope the new guys can make an already interesting lineup even more interesting.

Yeah, Bikemike, he’s without any question the current NL MOY. I’ve been calling him the whiz-kid for a minute or two and now he really is the whiz-kid…Haha!

Hey, I just now noticed that everyone’s avatar has reappeared after vanishing a few days ago. Failure to display either an ensign or coat of arms is a very, very, bad thing…

Well, that was a miscommunication on that Twins homer. Crooks thought he called for Mr. Nasty down and away, but Leahy thought he called for Mr. Meatball right down Broadway. Happens.

There is a discussion about this in the pinned thread, Questions About the New TCN. It was a change I made, now reversed.

Cardinals are trying to piece something together here in the 2nd. Other than the obvious mistake to Burleson on the tater, I noticed that Herrera was served up 2 or 3 pitches that looked real juicy. I’m guessing the Cardinals are going chase this pitcher before too long.
