Din-din on this fine Sunday afternoon will be the usual Sunday din-din. A ribeye steak in the air fryer, some jumbo crinkle cut french fries, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and then a big bowl of Turkey Hill Vanilla Bean ice cream. After that a 7×50 Palma Real President cigar whilst me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch listening to the Reds announcers. Who, by the way, are pitiful.

Sounds like we will have at least 2 Cardinals at the All Star game this season as Bob Nightengale reported that Ollie is going to be part of the coaching staff.

Nice win yesterday. Watched the condensed game this morning while having the usual whole grain cereal and fruit, along with a couple cups of coffee. Hey, maybe we tag on to the din-din theme and have a breakfast broadcast?

What are your thoughts on giving Fermin a shot at the third base job? Seems like given an opportunity to play regularly Jose would be decent. If he could put up a .350 OBP, play decent defense, make regular contact and pop 10-12 circuit shots he would be an upgrade to Gorman.

At this point I would give him a shot at playing full time at third for a month and see if he can claim the right to stick there.

Oh, and it looked like once again OB walked the tightrope. He’s looking a bit like vintage Izzy – walk guys and get yourself in further trouble before you finish ‘em off.

Fermin started at 3B 127 times while in the minors and has 18 MLB starts there. Not the worst option if they option Gorman.

    Can they option Gorman?

It’s been a few years and people can change some, but I remember Fermin as a lot better second baseman due to not having a strong arm (call it average ). His range was always around average or just above average. I don’t know that his OPS will be anything better than Gorman, but he will put the ball in play more often. He’s become a smart hitter of late who can find a hole in the defense.

Bike Mike: Firmin at 3rd? Why not. Seems it’s either that or wait around for for the system to one day magically squirt out a hot new item for third.

My question is, has the Cardinal brain trust abandoned the idea of an every-day catcher? How long are we going to play musical backstops?

We don’t have any good internal options for 3B. Saggese, Fermin, Urias, Mendoza, and Prieto probably aren’t much better than Gorman and the Cardinals obviously don’t view Jordan as a 3B because they haven’t been playing him much there lately down in Memphis. We are probably stuck with what we have for the rest of the season and maybe they will look elsewhere next year.

I too am weary of Gorman. I would think there would be some other team with depth at that position that we could aquire someone with a pulse to play third base. Where are Kenny Oberkfell, Terry Pendleton and David Freese when you need them. I’m not even asking for Boyer, Arenado, Rolen, just a decent bat that can field the position.

Just finished my lunchtime feast. Two peanut butter sandwiches on low carb bread, big bowl of raw spinach and low carb protein drink. Forty something carbs to keep my blood sugar low. Doesn’t sound like much but it really hit the spot.

No big deal, but for the uninitiated, McGreevy’s a north paw.

    CIF asked:

Pretty much every team has abandoned this idea. Almost everyone does a 70/30, 60/40, or 50/50 split. No one else is doing that with 3 catchers though as far as I know.

Opportunity squandered in the bottom of the first as Torres hits a weak grounder with the bases juiced.

Torres took some great at bats in his first 2-3 games and has looked far more ho-hum since that point.

Torres has shown us clearly why he wasn’t being brought up.

Why does Fermin swing like he is golfing both for warm up swings and some of his game swings?

We have lots of walks but not a lot of hits. Hopefully the Reds bullpen woes continue and we can start scoring some of the ducks we have been leaving out on the pond.

Burly hears my plea and answers with a double to start the bottom of the 5th.

Then Walker first pitch doubles to left center. The shutout has ended. Keep em coming.

After a Nootbaar backwards k, Torres hits a 2-run homer to his pull side that was a home run by about 2 inches. Cards lead 3-2.

And with that, Gorman slips under the Mendoza line like a runaway beast caught in the quicksand.

He’s almost slipped under .600 OPS as well.

CF and 3B have been real black holes offensively for this team.

This year’s team scuffles and has demonstrated over and over again that they don’t enjoy trailing by a few runs.
