you want to deal somebody for Machado…then deal Pham.Keep DeJong. He plays a premium position. He is younger. He does not have eye or a injury history.Sell high on one year wonder Pham.
I was just wondering Brian. You are right about Cards pulling off the wall unexpected moves.
Where would Colome prefer to pitch ? Homerun haven Colorado or Busch?
I like Ozuna as a fallback option but i would rather have someone who will be around longer than 2 years.Maybe its time o look elsewhere. That said i don`t really have any idea where Cards will look next.Any thoughts on who else could be in playthat would be off the wall under the radar Brian?
Saw all the former AL players on the voting committee.Stacked deck for Trammell and Morris.Simba shafted again.
I am fine with Yelich if Mo/Girsch also get another bat. This nonsense about Jose Martinez being the starting 1B is beyond crazy.I think Jose Martinez would look fine in Miami with Alcantara and Mercado.
Damn.Maybe in 2 years.
Do a little research on Gregerson and you will see that of the 31 runs he gave up last season 6 were in 1 game and 3 runs were allowed 3 times. That
s almost half the runs he allowed all year.So his stats are skewed because of 4 bad outings out of 65 games.so no reason to get bent out of shape BHC.UI dont know who people expect to sign………Goose Gossage or Bruce Sutter aren`t available.Whyu not wait and see what MO comes up with.December 10, 2017 at 12:41 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #39150I think Cards end up with Logan Morrison as a LEFTY hitting 1B-LF-RF option.Brandon Morrow or Anthony Swarzak for bullpen setup guys.Mo /Girsch will sign a guy with Closer experience coming off a bad year(Francisco Rodriguez or Huston Street.I think Piscotty goes to OAKLAND for a young bullpen arm.as for making a trade i think its YELICH FROM mIAMI FOR Alcantara,Jose Adolis Garcia and LUKE Voit and Josh Lucas.
Miami supposedly get Starlin Castro( who is owed 27 million over next 2 years according to what i read). So i hope he Starlin doesn
t unpack because i bet he isnt long for Miami.Marlins are getting unnamed prospects so far.I think Jeter flips Starlin Castro for more young prospects or cheap young players.
This stinks as bad as all the old NY Yankee deals with KC Athletics in the late 50s early 60.Yankees used KC Athletics like a farm team.Jeter is looking like a complete joke so far. What concerns me is that MO/Girsch end up with Longoria( who is not a bad player but Gyorko can come close offensively).Longoria has a big salary and Cards can use the money on a FA and not cost extra players.Abreu will cost a bunch player/prospects. I wouldn’t be thrilled with Jay Bruce but he still is a run producer and is okay defensively.I just can’t figure who the Cards could trade for to be a impact bat.Not counting Ozuna,Yelich,Donaldson,Abreu.Anyone got any big bats available?
December 7, 2017 at 11:56 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #38936Hawkeye;
I included Gant in the trade package because he is young, versatile SP/RP and cheap.Wick as a young cheap promising power arm (TB loves pitchers)and i should have changed Luke Voit for Valera. As for Hosmer i have yet to hear of any team getting involved with him because his price is way too hgh.Same thing with JD Martinez….both are asking for the moon salary-wise and there has been little speculation about both players.I would not go over 15 million yearly for Hosmer and that would be my absolute limit.I think that if everything else fails thru then Cards sign Logan Morrison and a bullpen guyfor setup/closer (Gregerson/Albers/Shaw).
December 7, 2017 at 9:46 am in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #38920So why gripe because DeJong hits homeruns? He plays above average defense at SS .His walk rate was terrible his first 100 ABs ( he walked once) after tthat his BB rate increased quite a bit ( he still can improve it).I see no reason he can`t improve as he makes adjustments. He kept his average in the .280 area and played okay defense for a guy who has been a 3B mostly before 207.Gyorko is a okay 3B but lacks mobility and range.Carpenter is terrible at 3B and barely adequate at 1B so i like the supersub idea for him.If Cards got a excellent defense first SS and moved DeJong to 3B and used Gyorko and Carpenter as supersubs/platoon/semi -regular starters that would be expensive but would be a solid bench and keep Greg Garcia doing what he does best pinch-hitting.
I have read Oakland wants a RH hitting OF and really like Piscotty so make a deal for whatever young guy you can get.
I think Cards trade with TB for Alex Colome RHP,Jake Odorizzi RHsP and Longoria 3B for A couple of Cards pitchers Rowan Wick,John Gant,Sam Tuivailala and and Gyorko to replace Longoria and Breyvic Valera as a cheap INF guy for TB.
Tampa Bay gets Longoria`s money off their books before he becomes a 10-5 man and Odorizzi and Colome arbitration cost off the books. In return they could get Gyorko 9.0 million th2018,13.0 million 2019.Gant as a SP/RP.
Wick as bullpen guy
Tuivailala as bullpen guy who is out of options.
Valera as a backup inf type/depth,Tampa saves probably close to 18-20 million on payroll and gets younger/cheaper players.
Cards get ;
Odorizzi RHP -dependeable SP for 2 years
Colome RHP-closer for 3 years
Longoria 3B-Cards taking a chance with counting on him to play okay defense and hit .
Just speculation on my part but i think TB would seriously consider this.He worked with Mike Maddux in Texas so he must have gotten positive reviews about his work in Japan. Many other teams were trying to sign him also.I don`t see any nrgatives about signing him.Cards have had pretty good success with players who played overseas so why not Mikolas?
Like the trade.Woodman might turn into something with more development.Diaz could play defense good enough to balance out his slipping offense and he gets a new chance elsewhere and Cards get a prospect and roster room.Hope this is the first of several moves and i think Stanton goes to SF and MO and Girsh have to scramble to come up for big bat.
Afer doing more checking the Cards minor league rosters and checking the stats on several of the Cards other minor league bullpen guys i can see somewhat the reasoning behind Gonzalez `s addition.
Most of the AAA guys are in their mid-20s area with Wick (40-man) being the only real hard thrower.( mid-to-upper 90s0 guy.Morales ,Arturo Reyes,Mayers a bit above or around average throwers.
AA bullpen young prospects Jacob Evans 24 struckout over a hitter a inning Lefty.
HI-A
Ian McKinney -23 LH finesse guy Ramon Santos 23 RH,I didn`t really consider Trey Nielsen 26 RH,Kevin Herget RH 26,Sean Gilmartin LH 27 as anything other than fringe prospects although Gilmartin has the best chance making a impact out of the bullpen .
Please correct me if i am wrong about these prospects/players.
BHC- Cards were being foolish IMHO.Cards have prospects ahead of DGonzalez.Who knows? Padres might pick up every Cards castoff/unprotected guys but i question if any have any big impact.Gonzalez projects as a bullpen guy and the Cards have plenty coming up the system.
Does seem like a knee jerk reaction.D. Gonzalez hasn`t even made it to AA level and has only pttched in less than 80 games in 5 years? Why?Do they really think some team is going to pick this kid up and keep him up in the Majors all season long? Crazy move.
I disagree Jager.I don`t get too excited about Poncedeleon.I see a serviceable minor league arm so far.Not a lot of difference to me between him and Arturo Reyes.Do you see a team stashing Pone on a MLB roster all season? It could happen but ? I think Wisdom has a good shot at being picked by a AL team needing a backup 3B/bench bat. Seattle,Toronto,TB,KC,Baltimore,SD,Pitt,Philly,Texas,LAA.
I say keep Voit.I like Wisdom although i doubt he gets protected.as for Poncedeleon i see no reason to protect him.He will be 26 in January and he has not even been able to have a complete AAA season ( injury) .Voit was a very good PH last year.
BHC- you say you are sick of people talking about Wisdom? People wonder if Wisdom coulkd be a decent bench guy with some pop who plays good defense for 3B.Where`s the obsession? Obsession is drooling over Poncedeleon who is only six months younger that Wisdom and has only just gotten a partial year in AAA ( injury) and has a high BB rate with a very average K rate.Nothing to see here folks ,move on.Nothing Poncedeleon has done jumps out IMHO.He is another average aged arm in AAA that the Cards do have a bunch of RHP talent that has passed Poncedeleon by.
Wisdom is what he is.Lots of strikeouts with power and good defense. That said i doubt Wisdom or PDL is protected.Well said Wiley.
Now if the voters would get their heads out of their butts and do the right thing then Simba would be in the HOF.November 16, 2017 at 5:33 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #37919Jager- i thought Fulmer had arm surgery late last season
Instead of hysterical rantings why not wait and see what unfolds over the offseason before getting the pitchforks and torches ready.I am as impatient as any fan but i am not jumping over the cliff or leading the rabble marching on DeWitts office.
November 15, 2017 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Trade Ideas/Acquisition Ideas/Non-Cards Rumors – 2017-2018 #37872I got the impression from the article on Cards official site that Cards now DO NOT expect Nicasio to return.
