I suspect Bader will start at Memphis with Tyler O`Neill and Adolis Garcia.Of course Pham or Fowler will break down and Bader will see PT in STLouis.

Why not keep Grichuk around? With Pham`s injury/eye issues and Fowlers foot/heel problems. why not have a solid bat and versatile OF who can provide solid defense and some pop .What is totally dumb to me is that people expect Wonderboy Pham to repeat or exceed his 2017 season. His past history says it aint gonna happen.Reality will set in and i expect a .260-.280 BA 15v HRs 70 RBIs and 15 stealss and at least one stint on the DL.AS for Fowler-the sooner he is gone the happier i will be.Way too expensive and lousy defense to goi along with the terrible contract.

Why trade Grichuk? Fowler has foot problems and a crappy contract.Pham has yet to prove he is more than a one-hit wonder and has a lengthy injury/vision history and Jose martinez is a poor OF .Grichuk is your best backup option .O`Neill and Bader and Jose Adolis Garcia should be starting OF at AAA Memphis.Grichuk can play all 3 OF spots pretty well .

If MO is counting on Pham/Fowler for a whole season without injury or vision issues he is smoking something.Jose Martinez plays OF poorly and is barely adequate at 1B.I count him in the Pham group- never done it before and probably never will again.I don`t think you get the light to come on at 29-30 and stay at that level.I look for regressions on both this season. That is why i hope grichuk sticks around. He plays good defense at all OF spots and offers pop off the bench and runs the basses well.As for roster versatility
    CATCHER-Molina kelly
    INF- MCarp-Wong-DeJong-Gyorko-G Garcia-
    OF-Fowler-Pham-Ozuna-Grichuk-Jose Martinez( 1B-LF-RF)
that is 12 position guys.If hthey keep Jairo Munoz as a INF/CF reserve that means 12 pitchers. 5 starters 7 bullpen.
As of right now my guess
    SP-C Martinez-Wacha-Weaver-Mikolas- Wainwright
    BP- Lyons-Cecil-Gregerson-Bowman- Tuivailala-Alex Reyes-Brebbia or Sherriff

If Wainwright isn`t ready i expect Flaherty to SP
If alex Reyes can`t go i expect Josh Lucas or John Gant to RP.

That is a option although i think Cards might keep Grichuk around as 4th OF/bench bat since Bader has options left and can play everyday at Memphis.Jose Martinez can only play corner OF or 1B.I think Cards keep ONeill and J A Garcia for Memphis OF with Bader. If Grichuk is traded then Bader would be your main OF reserve with ONeil and Jose Martinez as LF-RF backups.O`Neill has played CF but is he ready for a big league gig in CF ………..i think his comfort zone would be RF-LF.Thats another reason i think Grichuk stas.Maybe Toronto might be interested in Mercado instead?

I think JD Martinez is going to SF Giants. He has stated he doesn`t want to be a DH and wants to play OF.Giants shed some 9 million in Matt Moore trade and are looking to shed more.
Concerning TB i think that ship has sailed (TB asking too much) and i think MO/Girsch sign another bullpen guy who has some closing experience (Adison Reed,Tony watson,or Bud Norris etc; but not one of the high dollar closers (wade Davis,Greg Holland).
I also think Cards shift gears to adding another solid bat from the LH side who can play 1B-OF (Logan Morrison,Mitch Moreland) cheaper veteran bat.

looks like Cards picked up 2 potential solid players. At worse 2 bench bats late this 2018 season or 2019.Good deal for everyone.

Alcantara could be something special if he can harness his control issues.I have read some scouts think he would be better working out of the bullpen instead of starting.Gallen is a bulldog type and i hated to see him go but Cards are deep in young pitching coming up.Sierra doesnt do much to excite.4th OF with speed he doesnt know how to use and good defense.Cards have several others.

Good for everybody.Piscotty goes close to home and Cards get 2 solid middle INF prospects rated in Oaklands top 30 by MLB>COM.Munoz was rated #13 and Schrock #17

I dont see how any reasonable fan doesnt like this deal unless that fan is hung up over Yelich.many liked Yelich and he would have been a fine addition BUT he would have COST even more than Ozuna. If said fans are mad because of Ozuna`scost prospect -wise how would those Yelich fans feel when it cost more?I would love to see Yelich in STLOUIS next season but who are you going to trade so he can play? Fowler has his NTC and Pham is flavor of the month. For me trading Yelich for Pham and Flaherty and Mercado would work.

Nyquis-which did the Cards need now ?Alcantara,Gallen,Sierra or Ozuna to be a serious contender?

A lot of Cards fans also realize that Sierra is probably never going to be anything but a 4th OF.Alcantara who is a real talent but Cards have a abundance of pitching so you deal from depth.Gallen could be a solid pitcher and i like his potential.THIS FACT REMAINS ;Cards got a 2 time allstar OF who possibly could end up staying term for a top prospect (Alcantara-who has proved nohing other than he can throw hard with control issues) Gallen- a POTENTIAL Solid pitcher.sIERRA-A SPEEDY BANJO BAT of AND A Long term prospect.
So it cost a bit.Cards still have several rising Piching AND of prospects.NYquis you should realize that it does take quality to get quality .

    Not a bad deal ;
Cards get a 2 time ALLSTAR for 2 years and a chance for him to want to stay in STlouis
Marlins get Alcantara a hard throwing RP who has some control issues.
    Sierra a speedy 4th OF
    Gallen a RHP with potential
and a long term pitching prospect.
Not a bad deal at all.Cards dealt from areas that they felt they had surplus and got a big bat .

What if Tommy Pham just had a career year? Fowler? I feel a hell of lot more comfortable thinking Ozuna can come close to repeating last seasonthan i would about Pham?Fowler repeating.

I dont get the lets trade DeJong crap.Cards develop as good player who can play SS/3B and hit with some power and is still young and under team control and has no health issues/eye issues and didnt take 10 plus years to have a impact season.Machado isn`t going anywhere IMHO. DeJong could be a solid player for years after Gyorko,Carpenter and Molina are gone.

Greg Holland is returning to the Rockies so that narrows the closer list down a bit. Also saw Jim Bowden say Juan Nicasio close to a deal with Marlins (FWIW).That leaves Wade Davis,Steve Cishek,Brandon Kintzler as closers unless i forgot someone.Anthony Swarzak went to Mets 2 yrs 14 million total. He had been mentioned as a possible Cards bullpen setup guy.

Good point Brian.maybe the Cards need to look another direction .Colome seems like the best option provided TB doesn`t want to hose the Cards .

I am just getting somewhat frustrated by the “we are close but not close” BS.Yes Brian i realize it takes two to tango and i know deals do happen after the meetings.I am just irritated because all we heard for weeks was “we plan on making things happen at the winter meetings”.
If you can`t get a suitable deal for Ozuna or Yelich then get off your ass MO and sign a big bat before you look up and you are left with NO upgrades available. How do you think the fanbase will react to that?
The meetings are not over but i am becoming more doubtful anything upgrading the team gets done.PARALYSIS BY ANALYSIS.

Enough with the BS nonsense/doubletalk from MO/Girsch.Either you are making a deal or not.I am tired of “we are optimistic” but not near the finish line crap.Quit screwing around and get something done. You(MO?Girsch) have had months to figure out plan A,B,C D and fallbacks for those deals or signings.Enough with the unrealistic nonsense with Machado/Donaldson (one year then free agency).Get moving and upgrade this team.
Yes i admit i am losing patience with MO?Girsch and their snail-like pace doing anything.Paralysis by analysis.MO acts like a dog circling aound for 5 minutes before deciding to lay down in the same spot it just got up from.

I wonder why this supposed deal is taking so long to agree with.Could be Miami is trying to play the Cards offer against the ” mystery team” to jack up their asking price. For a possible 2 year player i hope MO does not agree to a massive overpay.

Why trade DeJong? He is young and under team control for years and provides some power.I would trade any of Carpenter,Wong,Fowler,Pham,or Gyorko before I would even consider trading DeJong. That might tick off the saberstat crowd but Carpenter is declining a bit,Fowler was a wasted overpay,Pham has his injury.eye history and Gyorko fell badly the second half last year.Wong just seems like a teaser player;flashing great ability but can’t stay on the field and has too many brainfarts defensively.

trade Fowler and Pham. That would rid the Cards of Fowlers rotten contracty and deal Pham while his value is highest.
