I remember looking at my baseball cards (my brother and me collected them back then.Cost 5 cents a pack.).My brother and I both wondered what was so special about Brock that the Cards would trade Brogilio?I was a Stan The Man fan and after he retired I thought Charley James would be okay in the OF.Did not think CJames would be a star but I thought he would be okay.Boy I missed the boat on that.I always thought CJames would have done okay if given more time. The pressure of taking Stans place was too much.

1964 was when the Cards heisted Lou Brock from the Cubbies for Ernie Broglio……I remember hearing that on the radio( after dark) and thinking the Cards really screwed themselves because Broglio had been so good and Brock was a struggling young player.Of course back in those days unless the Cards were on TV on Saturday game of the week(Peewee and Dizzy) i had to listen on my transister radio after dark to hear the Cards play unless Cards were playing the damned Reds..then you had to listen to the Reds announcers until dark and then swtitch to KMOX.

Nice recall except Maddon or Craig Counsell are unlikely to pull a Gene Mauch and wear out their pitching staffs.Mauch literally wore out Bunning,Chris Short and Dennis Bennett.

Schrock just seems like a guy who puts the bat on the ball, doesnt walk a bunch, doesnt strikeout a bunch.Average glove.Wong sure isn`t hittinbg but he still plays mostly good defense except for the sometimes brainfart on routine plays.Who knows if there is a realistic solution to what is wrong with this team.Fowler certainly has played his way into the doghouse with his lousy offense and defense and lack of effort.Pham has played back to his normal level ,Gyorko has not gotten started and now Ozuna fading somewhat. All in all a truly mixed up non-functional bunch. JMartinez can hit but his defense? What will MO/ Girsch do?

I admit i don`t like Pham.I have always said that Pham is nothing more than a average player who had a “career” partial season LAST YEAR.THere has never been any outstanding skill of his that has made me change my mind.I think Bader can put up the same numbers as Pham and can play defense better and steal just as many bases.Plus Bader is 6 years younger without the injury/eye issues/bad attitude.Since Fowler is virtually untradeable ( please Mo get Fowler gone soon).Pham is the logical choice to trade IMHO.

Only a total Phammite thinks he was one of the top 5-10 players in MLB last season.Total nonsense.

Pham`s upside offensively? Defensively? LMAO. Pham has slumped now for almost 2 month.
    2 for 33
    10 for 61
    22 for 117
thats Pham`s offense for the last month or so.
Pham 76 games 78 Ks on pace for 150 plus Ks (Pham is striking out at a higher rate than Randal Grichuk this year)

pham`s defense for the season -0.5 WAR
Phams baserunning 9 SB 6 CS
60 per cent success rate. Not exactly doing anything that cant be3 replaced.Top all this off with his crappy " its not my fault baserunning mistakes” and his “i was screwed by the Front Office” routine.Get him the eff out of here.

Jager-why trade a 23 year OF with improving plate discipline and good power ? Smart move is to trade Pham now…i dont buy the Pham Value BS............He is replaceable. It is crazy nonsense to even think about trading the best power bat in the system and keeping a overrated arrogant loudmouth jackleg Pham. You dont build for the future with 30 year old injury prone/eye issues players .As for speed and defense…You have Oscar Mercado at AAA…….you have Tyler ONeill who can run and plays better defense than Dexter Do-nothing Fowler and Bader plays defense better than most.A Outfield of Ozuna,Bader,Oneill,Mercad gives you speed and defense with some pop from Ozuna and O`Neill with Bader.Sometimes you have to long farther than the end of your nose when you look ahead.Pham is NOT the future.

I like the thought of Schrock at 2B.I would also trade Pham and bring Mercado up.Ozuna,Bade,rMercado/O`Neill/JMartinez getting OF time.Wisdom getting a shot,Carpenter at 1B,DeJong at SS,Munoz,Greg Garcia,Ravelo bench bats with Pena backup C.Voit has also turned it around at AAA powerwise and average wise.
To fix the roster crunch-Sherriff to 60 DL,Trade Pham for prospectTrade Fowler for whatever you can get.Addition by subtraction…after Mo`s calling out Dexter-Do-nothing i hope a move is coming soon.

Probably a organization man.Always finds a spot as reserve, spot starter type guy.Never hurts to have those guys around.O`Keefe fills a role and why not keep him around. He hits a bit, plays decent defense.Always a spot for guys like that.

Another lefty bullpen arm.Nothing wrong with giving Webb a shot. With Layne and now Webb and Gomber could possibly give Cards a alternative in case Cecil draws interest from another contender and Lyons is unable to return.

Ravelo does hit .I think the big knock on him is that he does not fit the power profile for a 1B.Voit did okay last year as a PH for the Cards and did okay in his very limited ABs this season. That said Voit seems to be struggling at the plate and like Brian said his roster spot could be hanging by a thread.

I don`t feel any of our position players deserve to go.Mikolas deserves serious consideration.Norris struggles lately hurt him i think.

Lou Brock was also among the leaders in caught stealing every year.Plus he also struck out a lot .Yet he hit one of the longest Homers at the Polo Grounds versus the Mets while playing for the Cubbies.Getting Brock from the Cubbies has to be one of the great steals in Cardinal history.Along with McGwire for next to nothing.

Hudson and and Mercado should be USA guys.Mercado born in Florida.O`Neill Canada.I like all 3 guys to represent the Cards.Arozarena has not done anything this season to be on any All-star game.Potential okay…production no.Not nitpicking just giving a opinion.

Hope Matheny sits Pham again and lets Fowler start.Since Fowler is pretty much untradeable Cards need him to see if he can help somewhat and Pham has struck out 5 times in a row, 7 of his last 9 ABs and 12 of his last 24 ABs.

I also dislike several things about todays players antics.I also realize that this is a different time and although i dont buy into all the Sabernerd BS it seems to be dominating decisions today.when you come down to it the game is still what it is; Hit the ball, catch the ball, pitch the ball. The team that does those things better usually wins.I refuse to watch the NBA because that isnt basketball..its playground ball with different rules for the big stars from all the other players. The NFl is turning into the “look at me” i made a tackle or caught a 5 yard pass i am great now league.
All the sports are getting too many hotdog grandstanding players instead of players acting like Pros.I don`t like it but its the way it is.Like another poster said earlier these same gripes were probably said 70 years ago and then again 40 years ago .Baseball might be changing and evolving but it is still the BEST sport around IMHO.
