This is a nice honor for these guys and they should feel proud. Realistically, three have a shot at playing in Busch.
What the hell!!!… no Austin Warner selected??? He’s been their best and most reliable starter. Who is responsible for this oversight? What a boo-boo. Put me in the column under mad as hell.
I don’t know what his ceiling is (probably not too much higher), but right now he is pitching like a man on a mission. You rarely can say that about a NFA.

Yariel Gonzales has a lot to prove when it comes to getting any attention. This All-Star selection should get him some notice. Finally.
Ortega has been splitting the catching duties with JuRodriguez. Both will turn 21 on Monday but it looks like Ortega will be ahead when it comes to promotion time to Palm Beach. IMO, of these six, Ortega stands out as having the highest ceiling.
Why do you say Ortega will be ahead. Just because he is an all star and Rodriguez isn’t. Doesn’t mean the team sees it that way. Or do you have other info?
It appears that both are quality prospects. I have heard though that Ortega is an outstanding defensive catcher. That he is throwing out over 50% of baserunners.
Ortega could be our catcher of the future. Kelly seems to have a problem hitting major league pitching (hopefully that will change) and Knizner could easily move to first base if his defense fails to meet major league standards for catchers. Ortega is also hitting well. He has enough time before Yadi retires. He could well pass over Palm Beach and go straight to Springfield.
Hard to choose between Rodriguez and Ortega based on stats. Rodriguez has been more consistent offensively while Ortega has a better CS %. Though neither one really is far superior than the other in either catagory. What gives the edge to Rodriguez to me is that while almost the same age, Rodriguez has 2 years less of organized baseball. However, even with experienced minor league catchers it is often unclear how teams evaluate them. Much of what they do isnt captured statistically.

Ortega had prospect momentum in 2016, but lost much of it last year. Rodriguez had a better 2017 and is stepping up in level of competition this year.
Being a UDFA matters not to me. Yariel doesn’t get “the hype” from me in prospect ranking because he is 24 years old, playing in a league in which the average age is 21.3. Age-wise, he would be appropriate at Double-A, two levels up. Ortega and Rodriguez are three years younger.
That doesn’t mean Gonzalez isn’t doing a nice job. He just isn’t going to be an MLB prospect unless he starts moving quickly.
Brian, I thought about why YGonzales hasn’t been promoted, he undoubtedly can hit at this level. As you stated, he has to get some more traction in the organization… like yesterday.
CC, I think Ortega has a slight edge just because of what I’ve read in scouting reports. It would be good to see Palm Beach get a quality prospect instead of 25 year old Brian O’Keefe who hasn’t been able to move up, and catching swingman Godoy. It would be a good opportunity for Ortega or Rodriguez.
FWIW, Gonzalez also committed the error that cost the perfect game. I haven’t seen him play enough to have a view of his defense. I see he has five errors this season in 51 games, three in 23 games at first. The others were at third.
Not a lot of pop but a nice bat and can play multiple positions.
The All-Star game is slated for tomorrow night. Yeison Medina and Ramon Santos take the spots of Woodford and Jones. Roster replacement for Ellis and Greene have yet to be announced.
Just got word Greene and Ellis were replaced by guys from other teams, so Springfield will have five representatives tomorrow.
This is a big deal as the entire 16-team PCL sources just one team. They play the International League on July 11.

Like I said, they have to draw from 16 teams to make one All-Star roster of nine starters (including DH) plus pitchers and reserves. Each team’s “fair share” is no more than two players and Memphis got three. As far as which players, there was a fan vote. Managers and local media filled in the rosters.
P.S. There could be later substitutions required, as the game is still two weeks away.
