ParticipantHe quietly put together a nice season at Memphis last year (.314/.383/.480/.863) and is doing fine so far this season (.310/.380/.529/.909). Nice to see an increase in slugging percentage. Sure, he’s 26 years old, but could he be another Jose Martinez in the making with perhaps a better glove at 1B? He only had 2 errors in 56 games at that position in 2017. Also played some corner outfield.
June 26, 2018 at 11:39 am #58187I was wondering if someone would talk about him.
26 isnt that old. Him and wisdom I think are putting real pressure on Voit to produce.
Also, it might provide some insurance should we decide to sell high on Jmart to an AL team.
Let’s say we did sell off parts. How much worse would really be with:
– Wisdom over Gyorko
– Rangel over JMart
– Oneill over Fowler
– Munoz or Schrock over WongWe would be worse, but what could we get back?
If we made Gyorko and JMart available I think we would have plenty of suitors. and our “sale” may not be because we are not competing, but more because we have confidence in our youngsters.
I’d like to see Rangel get a chance at some point, but unfortunately (just like Wisdom) there probably have to be 3ish moves to happen before that woudl happen
June 26, 2018 at 5:12 pm #58214Ravelo does hit .I think the big knock on him is that he does not fit the power profile for a 1B.Voit did okay last year as a PH for the Cards and did okay in his very limited ABs this season. That said Voit seems to be struggling at the plate and like Brian said his roster spot could be hanging by a thread.
June 26, 2018 at 7:11 pm #58220And strangely, our other minor league veteran 1B seems exiled to the GCL. John Nogawski was hitting .364 in Springfield before getting injured. He is rehabbing with GCL team and hitting .370 yet so far they haven’t even walked him across the complex to play in a FSL game yet.

ParticipantI commented on Ravelo on the Aff. Obs. thread before seeing this one. I guess others are keeping an eye on the progress Ravelo is making at MEM. Ravelo has been a streaker hitter is recent years, and like Schrock he’d have to be added to the MLB roster. They should catch him while he’s hot.
