Nice game today.Weaver showed a lot of grit by settling down after his rough 1st inning.Lots of hits by the offense and the bullpen did well today. Now go kick some Indians Ass tomorrow.
Hudson 8 IP 1R winner 2-1
10 wins 2 Losses under 2 ERA.A win is a win.Mikolas and molina main men today.Nice recovery by Norris.
The pitching will crumble because the load of having to carry the team. The pressure of having to toss a shutout because of the offense stinking.
Too disgusted to post anything else right now.The hell with it until tomorrow morning.Flaherty pitched a hell of a game. This one reminded me of the Dick Hughes game in 1968…Hughes lost a no-hitter and the game in the 9th inning and the Cards also hit into a triple play in the 8th or 9th inning.
Memphis OF Tyler O`Neill celebrates 23rd birthday today.Hoping he and team have a big win tonite.
Pads-a diehard Kentucky fan………………….The evil empire in Lessington.
I am a diehard Louisville fan.Forsch-Doesn`t Toronto already have several DH guys already? Smoak,Steve Pearce,Kendry Morales? JMart is the perfect DH and surely some AL team would be interested.I was thinking along the lines of TB (for one of their young arms) although TB is supposed to be hard to bargain with.
Whichever route the FO picks something needs to be done to fix this team.Maybe some guys have gotten complacent and some guys just got old in a hurry.Others played down to normal levels.Whatever and whoever the various reasons and players are the fact remains that as is this team is taking on water and starting to flounder. As others have stated and i agree these players should all be considered to be traded if the right deals can be made.
Matt Carpenter-he has been a good player, now declining, get something while you can
Jose martinez-born to DH,if you deal Carpenter then Keep JMart
Kolton Wong-time for another direction, too expensive to keep only for his glove
Dexter Fowler (somebody please take him)
Tommy Pham-30 year OF with injury/eye issues plays OF on a team deep in OF prospects
Jedd Gyorko-like him bu still listen to offers
Carlos Martinez-only if it is a overwhelming offer
Brett Cecil- ithink he will bounce back but maybe a change of scene is needed
Bud Norris-he has been a lifesaver but sell highMiles Mikolas-only if the team gets a deal it can`t refuse
858boyah-Ozuna has a career RISP .298.This season he was at .310 RISP.His power has been down but he has been the teams 3rd best RISP guy behind Gyorko and Jmartinez.
At this point of the season close to halfway it`s time to really consider looking ahead. Not a rollover surrender tank job but makes some moves that are moving forward instead of treading water in a probably futile attempt to edge into the playoffs. There are some veterans who could be attractive to other teams in contention so why not explore those options? This team needs a infusion of young hungry talent.Cards have several OF prospects playing well at AAA and some other positions guys who are doing well there also.Pitching -why not Dakota Hudson,Daniel Poncedeleon? Something has too change and IMO waiting for some older veterans to suddenly return to prime form is running in place getting nowhere.
Forsch pulling some more woulda coulda phamtom 65 hits out of thin air.Guess what Forsch Pham didn`t get those hits did he?
You Phamfans will not change my opinion.I think its funny that Forsch spits out Stats like a adding machine but yet he disses a Stat that disagrees with your view.Pham is nothing more than a average player who played above his head last season.Reality is setting in and that twhat my eyrs tell me.You guys don
t like it but thats the way i see it.Forsch i cretainly have seen nothing to make me change my mind about Pham.IMO Forsch you are extremely optimistic feeling Pham will have a big turnaround.I feel; what you see will be what he does for the rest of the season.Season totals 16-20 HRs 60-65 RBI .260-.270 BA 150 Ks.Nothing special at all.JAGER-i certainly have no dislike for any poster here.In my eyes from what i have seen pham has shown me that he is average.Nothing more.Thats my opinion.I do admit i don`t like him because of his BS comments about how the organization screwed him over and how he failed to accept the blame for his baserunning blunders. That just tell me Pham is a ahole person in my view.My opinion of his ballplaying skills tell me he is average .Nothing more.My opinion. My view. Now that opinion ruffles some feathers but thats the way it is.
Forsch and Stlcard…
OBP while RISP..
LMAO…talk about cherry picking .In what world is Pham comparable to Ozuna?Only in your Phamfoolery world.
You showed your complete cluelessness by calling Pham the teams best player. Then you compound the nonsense by stating Pham was the Cards best position player the last 2 years.I would trade Pham for either one of the prospects I mentioned.Forsch….I don’t know where you get your numbers but 7 hits is not going to make up the 35 point difference in their RISP averages.Keep wishing.
Forsch -the two prospect i mentioned are Clevelands # 6 and # 7 ranked prospects in their system.Minor leagueBall has Willi Castro as their #93 prospect. So they are not bums.
Career RISP

2015 8-34 .235
2016 6-29 .207
2017 32-105 .305
2018 11-48 .229CAREER RISP
Ozuna

2014 39-145 .269
2015 23-93 .247
2016 38-144 .264
2017 57-160 .356
2018 22-72 .310Now go ahead and tell me Pham and Ozuna are comparable in production.
PHAM also has a -0.5 Dwar this season. For his career he is a 0.1 Dwar player. So how is anthing about his play making him more than a avewrage player.
Keep cherrypicking for Pham.Ask any manger or GM who they would rather have on their team.As for fielding i have seen Pham screw up several times this season on defense.Others have commented also.
Both Indians prospects are in Clevelands top 15 prospects ranking.Trading a 30 year old Pham for young prospect who also can play 3B (Chang) is fine with me.Pham is average .AVERAGE.Not a star.Average.He is on pace for 150 plus strikeouts and barely 60 RBIs.That certainly says average loud and clear.Comparing Ozuna and Pham is beyond silly.Ozuna is a bigger power bat, drives in runs, plays okay defense.Pham plays suspect defense, runs bases poorly,Strikes out at a higher rate than Ozuna, hits for less average and Ozuna is younger by 2.5 years.Ozuna has been a 2 time All-star and a Silver slugger winner.
I like the trade option that has been floated around about one of the Indians young SS prospects (willi Castro AA or Yu Chang AAA ).Either player could offer young defense and decent offense.Castro is in AA and should see the majors late next season.Chang is at AAA and should see the Majors this season. Both are blocked by Linder in Cleveland and Cleveland needs a CF.
STLcard25-Pham has had 300 PA this year and he is a 1.0 WAR.last i figured double that makes him a 2.0 WAR if he stays the same.Nothing special.
I think any manager can look good when he has the horses. How good a manager was Joe Torre with those Yankees teams? Did he suddenly get smarter when he went to NY or was having better talent a big factor? Duhh..Hell yeas better players make mangers look good. How smart was Casey Stengel with the early Mets teams? Was he suddenly dumber or was it a matter of marv Throneberry and Rod Kahnel ,Roger Caig instead of Mickey Mantle,Bobby Richardson and Whitey Ford?
Matheny is always going to have his bashers no matter what the outcomes of the games,TLR was hated by some Whiteyball fans,Whitey was disliked by some who felt he bellied up and gave up early in a couple of seasons.Forsch – Pham had 564 ABs 143 hits 22 2B 5 3B 26 HR 61 RBI 13 SB 6 CS 69 BB 179 Ks 254 BA for his career other than his career partial season last year. Those are not the stats of a STAR Player. Those are stats of a very average player. He is playing to his norm.Last year was his career year.He fanned nearly 40 % in 2016.He is nearly a career 30 % k guy.He shows nothing more than average.Maybe you think Pham has suddenly turned into a star at 30 years old.I certainly don
t.Mercados K rate is down this season .ONeill has shown much greater batting eye since his return to Memphis (40 AB 11 H 2 2B 2 HR 7 RBI 11 BB 12 K .275 BA).Both have pretty good OBP this season at AAA.Once again i ask what is the logical move? Keeping the 30 year who is proving to be average and has injury /eye issues and blocking Mercado/ONeill, even Adolis Garcia and Randy Arozarena? That line of thinking just sets up failure and running in place. What is the systems deepest position? OUTFIELD.So a a smart person doesn`t waste that talent by sitting prospects behind a average veteran. Will the FO have the guts to actually have Fowler sit on the bench while he is making his huge paycheck/ Will Fowler`s pride allow that?
While not a Matheny defender or a basher.I admit his moves sometimes make me shake my head.I think he has done a pretty decent job this season considering the huge amount of injuries and poor performances.I am somewhat on the fence with the FO/management team on their moves in acquiring players.I disliked the Holland signing and the loos of the draft pick and i said so repeatedly before the signing and when it happened.I was okay with Gregerson and Leone because they both could fill roles when healthy.I think they still can help eventually.I do wonder if MM is being pressured to play Fowler in the hopes Fowler will wake up and at least resemble a Major League player again.I question the reasoning of playing Carpenter anywhere but 1B.He can`t play 3B worth a crap.Something has to give eventually …JMartinez is a born DH and MCarp is barely adequate at 1B..that situation needs to be resolved. Not even going to bring up Wong… lost ball in the tall grass this season so far …
The Facts are Pham is average.Nothing more.Phammite homerism worship won
t change that fact.A 30 year old serviceable player .No more than that.I never said Pham was the main problem.Pham is just highly overrated IMO.Pham should be trade bait...common sense says you dont let a average 30 year old player with a long injury/eye issue history block the path of younger healthier potentially better players. You cant trade Fowler because of his awful contract and he has no value.Ozuna is worth keeping .You certainly dont trade Bader,ONeill or Mercado...So who is the obvious trade option? Real simple..the 30 year old OF.Thats not hating on someone…that`s the logical move IMO. -
