If we don’t resign Lynn or acquire another high end starting pitcher next year is going to be rough. Martinez, Waino, and Wacha seem to be the top 3. Who are 4 and 5? Weaver seems completely overwhelmed and outmatched at times. His last start and the one today have been horrible. Flaherty is unproven. Reyes is coming a TJ injury. Gant is unproven. Gomber won’t be ready by Opening Day. Poncedeleon is questionable to pitch again. Hudson is unproven.
If we go into next season with these pitchers it could be disastrous.
People on this forum and the one at Cards Talk salivate at Wisdom and O’Neil based on home runs alone and don’t take into account their K rate and their low batting average.
By my calculations:
Machado – 30
Sosa – 30
Oviedo – 21
Jones – 21
Seijas – 19
Seferina – 18
Edman – 17
Tewes – 10? (Not sure about this as I didn’t understand Mudville’s 5th vote)Yeah the Brandon Moss trade was unexpected and did nothing for us. Completely underwhelmed.
Who is Trees? Tewes? Sorry Mudville I’m just curious.
Interesting tweet from Scott Lindholme:
#MLB How has your team fared against opponents with winning records? Pay attention to number of games as well as win pct. @baseball_ref dataFor those interest he provided a graphic.
Cards are 26th with a 26-42 record good enough for a .382 winning percentage.
As it was during the approach to the trade deadline i would imagine it would be a steep price, but one that is needed.
I have him in my Top 30 CC. I very hesitant to see how he comes back from that injury. Its not a typical injury and its hard to determine what will happen. Keep in mind is Rule 5 eligible as well.
Leaked got that kind of deal. Oh wait…nevermind.
Memphis, Springfield and Peoria have also announced 2018 schedules. Anyone have an idea when Palm Beach will announce their schedule?
Interesting June 4 is looking to be a boring day in the Cards system with St. Louis, Memphis, Springfield, and Peoria all having an off day.
A pathetic and gutless performance from the offense. And why Matheny insist on bringing Bowman into games at this point is beyond me. Bowman’s arm is going to fall off and don’t be surprised if he is having to get TJ surgery next season.
If they need to slow things down why didn’t the pitching coach go out to the mound? I swear stop making excuses for Matheny.
Can someone remind me what the Cardinals final record was predicted to be back before Spring Training?
There were 2 on and no outs and there still wasn’t anyone getting ready in the pen. Someone should have been warming to start the 7th because Wacha’s history of not doing well the 3rd time through a lineup. I see this, Brian sees this, Bernie sees this, Dan Buffa sees this….everyone sees this except Matheny and his fan club.
#21 – Edmundo Sosa: He had a big drop as well but I think that was because the voters got scared of his injury. Arizona Fall League should determine a lot of things for him.
#22 – Connor Jones
#23 – Jonatan Machado
#24 – Mike O’Reilly
#25 – Kramer Robertson
The offense and manager sucked tonight. Matheny is getting part of the blame for leaving Wacha in too long. I’ve already shared articles how he leaves starting pitchers in the game too long.
Classic Matheny: Leave Wacha in the game too long and bring in an overused Bowman who is not the same pitcher he was the 1st half. Granted the offense blows but this was classic Mathenaging at its finest.
I wonder what happened to stlcard25. He voted for the very first pick but then disappeared.
Anybody who thought this team was playoff quality was fooling themselves. The Cardinals are who we thought they were….Not good enough.
Based on my calculations the votes thus far stand at:
40 – Fernandez
32 – Woodford
26 – Carlson
23 – Perez
21 – Mercado
12 – Sosa
5 – Jones
4 – Infante
4 – Edman
4 – Oviedo
3 – Seferina
3 – Seijas
1 – TewesMudville and Cards1776 are the only ones who haven’t voted yet.
I like Bernie, Ortiz, Gordo and the 2 Bens. Goold reminds of Joe Strauss who would get on twitter, bait people with rude and sarcastic comments and then block them when they repkied. Rob Rains has good stuff as well.
Good point, Brian. I forgot about Sosa playing in the AFL. i do see him having a breakout performance.
Edman’s bat doesn’t play as well as Sosa’s. And defensively the peripherals for Edman aren’t as good as they are for Sosa. Edman only jumped Sosa because of the injury and other promotions. Spring training will determine, however, who is higher on the prospects totem pole.
Why would you pinch hit for your best hitter in a 1-run game in the bottom of the 8th inning? Is Pham hurt? If not that was just stupid and another feather in the Matheny doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Agreed Mike. Unfortunately many of us (I include myself here) were drinking the FO cool-aid at that time. Many of us, however, have stopped drinking since then.
