ParticipantI didn’t realize how good Fernandez was in July – 4 starts 1.40 ERA. His bicep injury though does worry me as well as his innings load dropping from 120 in 2016 to 90 in 2017. It should go the other way ala Alcantara.
He also doesn’t really strike a lot of guys out (5+ K/9) for a guy with a plus fastball and changeup. He will look good in the bullpen in a few years either way.

ParticipantThe problem with potential is that it is just that, you have to use it. AND by itself won’t get you into MLB. I won’t go through the trouble of naming all the high-potential prospects that are sad memories.

ParticipantAnyone know why his K rate is so low? He should be punching a lot more guys out.

22 Poncedeleon
23 O’Reilly
24 Machado
25 TewesSeptember 28, 2017 at 7:19 am #34406Is Voit eligible?
September 28, 2017 at 7:29 am #34408#21 – Edmundo Sosa: He had a big drop as well but I think that was because the voters got scared of his injury. Arizona Fall League should determine a lot of things for him.
#22 – Connor Jones
#23 – Jonatan Machado
#24 – Mike O’Reilly
#25 – Kramer Robertson

24. Matt Pearce – Year after year the man gets zero respect and all he does is out-perform many others on his way up the system. I think Matt Pearce, I think Lance Lynn, he wasn’t expected to do anything but maybe be an okay 5th starter. Anyone care to argue his success?!
25. Darren Seferina – Maybe the best kept secret in the system. Hey everyone, this guy is very, very good. Good with the glove, gap power to go with his speed, decent contact hitter.21-22 Tommy Edmando Sosa
September 28, 2017 at 6:42 pm #34476Wiley, time has clouded your history on Lynn. Lance Lynn was twice voted this sites #3 prospect. That usually doesn’t happen with guys projected to be #5 starters.
September 28, 2017 at 8:55 pm #344931st round sandwich picks arent generally #5 starters.
September 28, 2017 at 9:08 pm #3449621. Sosa — too low imo. He has solid big leaguer written all over him.
22. Seferina — probably not too low… But proof our system is stupidly deep. Can play.
23. Tewes — this guy could be next year’s flaherty. Had #1 college (friday night) starter stuff at wichita state and was projected as a 2nd or 3rd rounder before he got tj surgery. Steal in the eighth round. Definitely like his peripherals better than connor jones.. And he was in a rehab year. Next year should be an improvement… Which gives a guy who went up two levels this year some possibly impressive helium upcoming. This was about where I wanted him before I got trigger happy last five 🙂
24. Edman — decent helium… But not sure his bat plays at higher levels. Next year will show me either way. Hopeful here but trying to stay reasonable.
25. Matt pearce — could be in our bullpen next year

25 SosaSeptember 29, 2017 at 9:15 am #34536Do people not like Poncedeleon in this area because they don’t think he rates this high or they dont think he will come back?
September 29, 2017 at 10:07 am #34547I have him in my Top 30 CC. I very hesitant to see how he comes back from that injury. Its not a typical injury and its hard to determine what will happen. Keep in mind is Rule 5 eligible as well.

ParticipantI’m putting Poncedeleon at #31. That’s his spot from the aggregate ranking that I put together pre-season ’17. I feeling that’s the least we can do for a young man that is going down a long road to recovery. In case anyone doesn’t know about his story, Ponce was cut down by a line drive to his head on May 9th in the bottom of the 2nd inning on the road @ IOWA while pitching for Memphis. It was his sixth start in ’17 and at the time his ERA was 2.17 and his WHIP was 1.14, 25Ks in 29 IP. Opponents were hitting only .196 off him. If given the chance to complete a good full season on the mound he likely would would have climbed in the rankings.
At the time of the accident he was in pretty bad shape and there were concerns about a full recovery. I’ve heard reports that he is now into baseball activities. That is some kind of good news. I really feel for the guy.

25. TreesYou can’t ignore the fact that Pearce has a lot of success. But he looks like a middle reliever, IMO.
September 29, 2017 at 7:16 pm #34643Who is Trees? Tewes? Sorry Mudville I’m just curious.
