Lance Lynn (11-8, 3.47) vs. Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.14) 7:15 p.m. FOX Sports Midwest
September 28, 2017 at 7:20 am #34407Even with a win this evening, the Cards would finish just 6-13 vs. the Cubs this season. There is your whole season summarized right there.

ParticipantAlong with the overall record against the entire Central Division.
September 28, 2017 at 8:31 am #34424You cannot beat the teams in your division, you have no business competing for the title.
However, they did eke out season series against both Cincy and Pittsburgh and would also edge Milwaukee for the year with a sweep this weekend.
On the other hand, winning just 5 of 18 against the two-time division champion sticks out like a sore thumb. The Cubs are clearly top dog.

ParticipantCould be mental. Defeatist attitude.
September 28, 2017 at 9:59 am #34433The difference is not mental, as the Cubs are clearly the better team. Their infield is much better than ours, and they are probably even with us at catcher. Left field might be the only place you could say we are clearly better.
Their rotation is as good as ours, their bullpen better, and they have some nice depth. They simply have it going on right now, whereas we have slipped back into a period of mediocrity. But a year can make a big difference, so who knows what might happen in 2018.
September 28, 2017 at 2:39 pm #34447I am guessing you were being sarcastic in your comment about attitude Cranny, as a defeatist attitude would tend to originate from management. Generally attitude, or what we might call corporate culture, is set by management from both actions and example.
That would run counter to your thoughts on Matheny as our field manager, thus I am thinking you threw that out there in a tongue-in-cheek manner.
Fact is though, as I pointed out, the Cubs are a better club than us right now.
September 28, 2017 at 2:39 pm #34448Molina and Wong remain out.

ParticipantGood call on the corporate culture plus attitude. Every team has one and its unique to all of them. It actually filters down through the entire system. That’s why I like to see the farm teams winning games and championships…. gives the kids a boost.
September 28, 2017 at 4:30 pm #34461I believe this game starts at 7:15 EST, and 6:15 St. Louis time.

So, what is the solution this winter?
September 28, 2017 at 5:02 pm #34468Cubs are even with us at catcher? And all these people telling me Yadi is the best.
September 28, 2017 at 7:37 pm #34478Top of the 5th, Cubs leading 1-0…
September 28, 2017 at 7:39 pm #34479In the game, the Cubs lead 1-0 through four. Gyorko ended the inning at second on a strike em out, throw em out double play.
September 28, 2017 at 7:41 pm #34480Ugh, Piscotty. Pitch was right there and he takes it on a 3-2 count with the runner going. Strike ’em out throw ’em out. Ridiculous.
September 28, 2017 at 7:56 pm #34482No decision for Lynn. Leaves after five innings for a PH down 1-0. Looks like this could end his career with the Cardinals.
September 28, 2017 at 8:28 pm #34484Nice game for Lynn. Would have liked to see him go a little longer. He has been a real good Cardinal, and will help somebody next year with his durability and stuff.
September 28, 2017 at 8:31 pm #34487What ever happened to those Cub road hats with the red bill? They only wore those a few seasons. I’ve never cared for the blue jerseys. The all-gray is a better look.
September 28, 2017 at 8:44 pm #34492Strange bringing in Nicasio in the 8th. TV guys speculating, or at least discussing that sometimes other guys cannot go so a managers choices are limited.
September 28, 2017 at 9:05 pm #34495Man, what were Martinez and DeJong looking for? Two pitches they could have put a good swing on, and each takes for called strike three.

Participant15 and 15
September 28, 2017 at 9:36 pm #34498Don’t like Matheny burning all these pitchers with 1 inning stints. This is a must win gsme. You don’t want to get caught short. There are a lot of guys available, but these guys have been real efficient and could have easily gone more than 1.

Participant16 and 15
September 28, 2017 at 9:41 pm #34500And that might put an end to the season. We’ll see if St. Louis can respond with at least one to keep their dim hopes still aglow.
September 28, 2017 at 9:42 pm #34501Bottom of the 11th, Cubs up 2-1 thanks to Gyorko missing a line drive hit…
