You don’t follow baseball terribly closely if you think a rehabbing vets stats matter in calling them up from injury. One could even say you’d have to be beyond not following it closely.
I don’t think it is publicly available, but there is definitely data on both. And, since they are still doing it, it takes away a lot more hits than it allows.
We did get a bucket of BP balls for Jedd, so there is that.
Also, let’s not forget. We are going to get an All Star 3B, a Hall of Fame catcher, and an All Star – middle of the lineup bat – LF that are just as good as trade deadline deals!

I’m actually glad we seem to be standing pat, though. This team may be in 1st, but I still don’t really see a contender. I think they will do just enough to get a bad draft pick. They might even sneak in the back door of the playoffs.
I think that is a gross mischaracterization of mental health issues.
Of course, there are guys that suffer from actual mental health issues. And then there are situations where guys say that they were playing poorly and it made them “depressed” (another word for sad) – and the media runs away with some bizarre mental health story based on a word that has multiple definitions, the least used is the one that is a serious clinical issue.
I have no idea if Carp is suffering from mental health issues, but his OPS probably isn’t the best symptom to judge by.
Genius timing by Bernie the Genius. Call for Fowler to hit leadoff when his OBP since the break is .235, which is far better than he did when was actually hitting leadoff. He’s also not been good when leading off an inning this year. Fowler has done his damage from 6 and 7 hole this year. Just put him back there and leave him alone (if you must play him at all).
I mean, you have so many people on here wanting to be rid of Bader, and yet Fowler and Bader have produced the same WAR (1.1) this year (Fangraphs). I’d rather see the young guy who plays great defense than the overpaid, over the hill veteran who pads his offensive stats in low leverage situations.
If Mo can get away with firing Girsch for this team’s lack of success then he’s a genius.
Imagine if Terry Fator’s show at the Mirage was bombing, and he was able to keep his show there simply by firing his puppets and using new ones.
I always thought those international free agents had free will. And, you can probably call it now, since the White Sox could get a ton in value for Robert in a trade right now. So that’s one smart team, and 29 idiot teams.

Getting MVP votes makes you a generational talent? Hell, we have two generational talents on the IL right now.
The Sox are about two years away from being a force with Robert, Moncada, Jimenez, Giolito, Kopech, Cease, and Madrigal.
I remember all the consecutive years where the Cardinals were going to be a force with XXX, XXX, XXX, and XXX. All those can’t miss guys that either aren’t doing anything for the Cardinals or aren’t doing much for them. Many a future dynasty has fallen short. For all the ballyhoo about how under-rated our pipeline has been for the last decade, we sure didn’t end up with all that much.
P.S. St. Louis’ MLB payroll this season is $165 MM. The White Sox are at just $90 MM, seventh to last. And they are again not competitive in an easy division. So, robbing Peter to pay Paul?
I would have robbed Dexter to pay Luis. Well, I would have not signed Dexter at all. No idea if I would have paid Luis. I wish we could have diverted some of that sweet, sweet, OPM (which I agree is the best money to spend!).
Here is the legit info on the Cowboys ATT Stadium:
-City pays $325 mill, while Jerry pays the rest (well-known). Depending on the amount raised, Jerry might have been responsible for another $35 mill (ended up not being necessary).
-Jerry pays $2m/year to rent the stadium with a lease of 30 years, and the Cowboys are required to play their home games in the stadium over this period.
-If naming rights are sold, Jerry has to pay 5% of that per year (capped at $500k) to the city
-At the end of 30 years, there are extensions available up to a total lease of 70 years (with a much lower annual rent)
-After the lease ends, the Cowboys have the option to purchase the complex from the city for $100m, and they get credit for paid rent and operating costs (!) — if “credit” means “full credit” I think this means they would probably only have to fork over around $20-30m for the whole complex after 30 years…
-Jerry pays for all operating costs and receives all revenue. I assume this covers all events in the stadium, not just Boys game, but not sure
-Jerry has to pay $500k/year for 33 years for youth sports charity
City of Arlington already paid all costs off as the stadium has been a cash cow to all.The genius of that deal is that it looks like Jerry, out of the kindness of his heart, spent more on the stadium than the city while letting the city still own it. In reality, that is just ownership on paper to avoid paying the property taxes on that place, which would be a significant sum of money – far more than the $2 million in rent plus the half million in naming rights fees.
I honestly don’t understand how a report can come out that a team that is a half game out of a playoff spot would be considering trading their current cleanup hitter and their closer – especially considering the front office’s history of always believing they are contenders.
The only two plausible reasons are that the report is totally bogus (doubtful), or that our front office believes they can thread the needle and both be buyers and sellers and do a partial rebuild mid-season. The latter scares the heck out of me. I’m not really ready to give up on either of these guys.
The more interesting rebuild mid-season would be to try to move Fowler while he’s productive. I wouldn’t even worry about the return – nothing is fine. But they obviously value O’Neill’s bat more than Fowler’s (presently, not just in the future), and O’Neill is every bit as good on defense. Let him play everyday. Let Bader play everyday. Bader is not as bad as he is showing now, and giving up on him now would be another mistake we’d make with our outfield. Our whole offense is terrible, and it is full of good hitters. How the current hitting coach is getting a pass is beyond me. And they can let Jose Martinez get most of the third OF reps until Ozuna comes back. When he gets back, Martinez can be that bench bat and 4th OF for us, where he proves most valuable.
I have no real problem with Dexter Fowler, but the team would be better off without his contract. His production is replaceable for far cheaper.
I have no idea what line of work you are in, and it does not matter. If you made angry public statements including profanity about your company and your bosses, and were not repentant about it, I’d bet that you wouldn’t land as softly as Pham did. But athletes are “special” and don’t have to follow common respect expected from other grown adults.
I would have gotten fired for the social media tirade that Yadi went on, but I didn’t see many people calling for his head.
They are special, whether we want to admit it or not.
As the old saying goes, you make excuses for the stars and examples out of the non-stars. The problem with the Pham situation is that the front office misidentified which category Pham fit in.
I’m not down on DeJong, but the guy batting in the top 3 still, now that we see his April was just a hot streak, is a bit of a mystery to me. I understand why you give Goldschmidt and, to a lesser extent, Carpenter the benefit of the doubt for a long time (the whole season for Goldschmidt and maybe all of it for Carp), but I don’t get it with DeJong. Not that we have a ton of great options, but DeJong has been pretty brutal since April, and could probably be helped by a move down in the order.
While we are on the subject of places in the batting order, I think the batting order positions of O’Neill and Fowler lead to a bit of a logical mystery (if you are assuming that the person making the lineup wants to maximize winning). It seems that every time O’Neill is in the lineup, he hits ahead of Fowler. That leads me to believe that Schildt thinks he is the better hitter (and, probably, rightfully so). And a recent amazing play aside, Fowler is not superior to O’Neill on the defensive side of the ball. He’s looked a bit better this year, but really it is marginal, and over a lot of playing time, I think O’Neill is the better choice defensively. With that being the case, why is it that Fowler is automatically in the lineup over O’Neill when everyone is healthy? I understand the contract situation, but it is still odd and frustrating.
When is the last time you saw the Cowboys in the playoffs?
I hate the Cowboys, but the answer is seven months ago. And they have been in two of the last three years.
