Wong just got a bit too far under that one…..a 3 RUN blow would have been just what Doc Medich ordered. 4-0 Oakland heading to the bottom of the 4th in sunny California.

Looks like everyone turned in early on this fine Saturday evening. Wonder if anything on the tele looks good?

Welp, a pat on the back for my prediction will suffice.

I go about half and half on the seltzer and oj. Get the Bj’s brand at BJ’s if they have it up there. The team may be a little flat traveling and all, day layover etc. They strangely usually play better in the road but I think they’re about half and half with that this year. I’d take 3 out of 6 on this trip considering who we gotta play. Never know with baseball. Was hoping Ozuna would add some pop tonight. We’ll see!

Wow, this is the new guy? Loads the corners and can’t strike out a low ba lefty? I’m gettin’ that sinkin’ feeling again!

Well I have zero faith in Waino’s start tomorrow. He’s terrible on the road this season.

Cards score in the top of the sixth, driving Fiers from the game. We’ll see how they fare against the Oakland pen.

sums up this offense. 1 run with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs. lol

Now you know why the Cubs got Castellanos. They know us and Milwaukee can’t outscore them most night.

Can we please retire the powder blues permanently? After tonight we will be 1-8 wearing them.

Good thing we didn’t upgrade the offense or the bullpen at the trade deadline. I’d hate not being able to see a merry-go-round of duds like Mayers, Mejia and Shreve.

Not our best performance, 3 runs on 8 hits, 14 lob tells the story. Pitching giving up 8 runs. These guys have beat us 3 in a row, maybe we can win tomorrow night!

Please send DFA or send Mayers down. Webb down as well. Send Ravelo down and Thomas too.

Fernandez and Helsley at least could be exciting

    Carp is inevitable for Ravelo
    Thomas down for Randy please

    Give Randy a real shot

    Yadi for knizner soon

    Ozuna Randy Fowler/Jmart
    Edman/Carp DeJong Wong Goldy Yadi

Randy Edman Goldy Ozuna DeJong Fowler Yadi Wong

Speed at the front with a nice switch hitter in front of Goldy. Thump in the middle and Wong as the 8 spot spark

Munoz Jmart/Fowler wieters Edman/Carp is a fine enough bench

If we can’t get outside help at least give the kids a shot

Call up Woodford for a rotation turn too

There are guys who can be taken off the 40

Take a look at picking up Winkler or any other Waived lefty too. Maybe one will stick. But don’t get attached

Lane Thomas a legitimate outfielder is being passed over for Jairo Munoz. You really think Arozarena is gonna be starting if he’s called up?

Sorry I had nothing to contribute last night guys. I didn’t think you’d be impressed by an unexotic steak and french fries with salad. As it turns out I was extremely unimpressed this morning with that 8-3 performance. It ruined my Sunday morning tea and croissants.
By the way Pugs, what makes you think it’s MRS. CIF doing the dindin duty every evening?

Please do not use Mayers against the Dodgers. I still remember his MLB debut against them. Not pretty.

Stu Schuerwater the HPU last night is living evidence that even an unperfected electronic strike zone is preferable to umps like him. The low strike is the most missed call in baseball. Why, because we don’t have any two foot tall umpires.

Mejia of the 7+era. A lefty at any cost and he came cheap.

Ponce and Hudson are showing their true colors – can’t hit the broadside of a barn. Ponce has paid the price but what is there to replace Hudson. He wears my lucky number and I cringe every time I see it on him.

I relented and unmuted the sound during a McCarver game. That lasted all of 30 seconds when I heard he was once again managing from the booth. I tried once again later but he was still engrossed a conversation about events 40 years ago. Please tell me he is not going to the LA series.

What is it with the MLB team reporters. Evidently Ann Rogers does not travel as others seem to be writing up the road games but all are using the same formula – forget details of the game and concentrate on only one thing about it – either the pitcher, a single player or some odd event. I am actually having to resort to the PD to get some inside scoop.

Stats: Yes, I am the old dog who can’t learn new tricks. Can someone detail for me what a wRC (or something like that) is supposed to tell me.

And with that I bid adieu and say GO CARDS. Our hero MCarp returns to save the season.

Forgot to add: Is it just me or has the strike zone shrunk in size since the AS break? It seems from what I have seen that few borderline calls are being made and many clear strikes are being called balls.

I think a woman’s touch to our game threads would work wonders around here, CardinalinFrance. We will very much look forward to the lovely Mrs. CIF’s did-din descriptions! Please have her memorize and recite Brian’s Posting Rules & Regulations section, like the rest of us had to do, before posting….just a little safeguard for me to not being called any naughty names….not that she would use any foul language anyway, but it’s always good to be sure.

And Munoz. I’ve always thought he was sneaky good with the leather. He’s here to stay.

I didn’t get a chance to watch, but it seems like Shildt didn’t really try to even get back into this one. Using Mejia is understandable given the 5 run deficit early. But using Mayers as long as he did, even when the Cards had crept back into the game, just seems like he had given up and wasn’t going to use the A bullpen no matter what. Very odd. In the end, I guess they didn’t score enough to make it a game regardless.

The use of Munoz is another puzzler. His reputation seems to have far exceeded his actual play. He’s as bad as Jmart in the OF and can’t hit either. Hopefully Thomas at least gets a start here in the series finale.

If you look at the pitching and hitting numbers being in or near first place in the division is a miracle.

Should the Cards make the playoffs they will get caught on both sides of the pitching squeeze.

Starting rotations get cut to basically the top 3 starters. For now, I don’t see either a number 1 or a number 2 pitcher on the Cardinals staff.

Maybe Hudson and Flaherty grow into those roles but what starting pitcher do we have that’s better than the 3 on a real playoff caliber team?
