You may not like what he has to say, but that doesn’t mean he’s wrong. Not letting Pham play was as stupid as paying tons of money to crappy relievers. The guy earned his shot far more than several guys who got shots in front of him. He has good reason to be mad at the organization. These are the people who believed that Bourgos, Grichuk, Hazelbaker, and even Matt Adams were better options in the outfield than he was.
If stupidity like that cost you millions of dollars, you’d probably be a little salty, too.
What McCarver said was that pitchers should always throw fastballs in 2-2 counts, which seems to be in line with what Ratsbuddy is saying about 3-2 counts.
What do you guys think Major League hitters would do to a pitcher who always threw the same pitch in 2 ball counts?
McCarver had a great career, but his baseball knowledge is pretty questionable.

That team would be well under .500, and almost certainly in last place unless some other team used the same “logic.” How would last place make us any better than any other way? You talk about other people being bad at math, and yet you seem to have zero understanding of your own grandiose false statements.
I get that you are smarter than the entire Cardinals front office. You’ve clearly demonstrated that. But you need to be careful that you don’t significantly reduce your own WAR from the shoulder surgery that you are clearly going to need from patting yourself on the back so rapidly and so often. Recovery from shoulder surgery is notoriously arduous.
Hosmer and his every-other-year act is not a better option for this team than Carpenter at 1B. Carpenter showed his floor last year, and was awfully good, even if counting stat people want to slam his batting average. Carpenter’s contract is ideal (2 years, $30 million with a team option for a 3rd year). Hosmer would require something much more than that.
Moustakas shouldn’t even be considered.
People who slam the Fowler contract shouldn’t want any part of either of these guys, if they truly understood why they dislike the Fowler deal and had consistent application of thought.
Fowler provides lineup versatility and a guy who has always gotten on base. He’s not the horror show some of you make him out to be.
The offense was fine last year, and adding Ozuna should help. I do have concerns about Gyorko’s alarming inconsistency, and an upgrade at 3B would be nice, but isn’t necessary. I expect Yadi to regress because of age, and DeJong will probably regress a little, but that is far from a guarantee. I know that this is generally a place to bash Wong, but I think we saw Wong settle in to what he is going to be offensively for this team (high OBP with less pop than he showed early in his time in St. Louis and a good baserunner). And he should see improved defense because he has always been far better than he showed last year. His contract is also good for a young, 3(ish) WAR player. Replacing good contracts with bad ones is not where we need to be heading.
If we have money/resources to spend, spend them on pitching and/or a major upgrade at 3B (Donaldson or Machado). Don’t waste your time by spending large amounts of assets to marginally improve somewhere. That is what the Fowler signing ended up being, although you’d be lying if you said we were flush with fantastic outfield options when the signing was made.
