I find it far more disappointing that people who can’t handle negativity are lauded as something more than pathetic.
His last start he gave up 10 runs. Considering your post is lamenting his 4.11 ERA, it would be hilarious if you’d decided to post this just 2 days ago.
The scolding of Pham continues on. He got “many” chances, yet still has outperformed those put in his place. Yet he at a cheap salary is gone, and this is a good thing according to the morally righteous, gaslighters among us.
I dare say Pugsley that perhaps you liked that movie so much because of the hot tub scene. Not one for the memory, at least not for me.

When people ridicule advanced metrics but rationalize absurd and arbitrary metrics of their own, yes, I find that hilarious. I probably even find it funnier when people lack humility, so this thread is a double win for me.
I find this topic kind of funny minuteman, considering in another thread you state your belief in Fowler in CF comes from the fact that he started there for a WS champion. Now that is a statistic I can do without.
The difference between the threads is that in this thread people are mentioning that thread, and in that thread people are mentioning this thread.
I know I read a link to a story(I think it was Langosch) reporting the offer was 2/4 million total. That number is a slap in the face because it essentially means the team was betting against Pham. At the time Pham and agency stated that the numbers didn’t add up for him to sign. Pham was basically quoted as saying he was betting on himself. Well, that bet will pay off for him financially at least. I think it likely was a disrespectful offer and if true, the disdain people have for him sticking up for himself is silly.
Another issue with the Pham trade is who gets cut or left unprotected because of the extra 40-man spot being allotted. Smartest move was to release Fowler and keep Pham. The return wasn’t impressive to begin with, but then associate it with two unfinished and seemingly not close players who will have to take up 40-man spots. Another player will be shown the door with no return who is likely as equal of a prospect as Cabrera or Williams. Just an incredible waste of value and talent. The seeming benefit of having Cabrera or Williams as opposed to other prospects already in the system is their handedness. So giving away Pham to flip some splits is basically what the trade amounted to.

I’m pretty sure he’ll get a crack at pitching. It also says in the article that he gets it into the low 90s.

Chris Rivera turned from INF to C to P and he’s still in the org. I think it would be foolish to drop a guy with Robbins’ pitching background, handedness, and size before his 21-year-old season. I don’t know, maybe he only throws 85 MPH and is a lost cause, but he was an actual pitching prospect prior to getting drafted.

Does anyone think Walker Robbins gets converted to pitcher? So far in his pro career he hasn’t hit worth a lick and coming out of HS some saw him as a pitcher. This was the second recent appearance he’s made as a pitcher in a game that needed a BP arm. He’s left-handed and has good size, so maybe this would be a good way to turn his career around.
Wasn’t it reported that Tommy Pham was offered two years at 4 million which would likely be less than he’d earn in arbitration over that time span? If that is true, who is the asshole here?

The nice thing about Joerlin is that he’s still just 17, a half year older than Nunez. Now Brian Sanchez dominated the DSL a few years ago and he’s nothing special at JC now(an understatement), but he was also a few years older – which I remember Brian Walton harping about.
Hey pugs. I feel like a jerk. I did see your original post way back when it happened, but before I got the chance to respond my laptop’s power connection disconnected and my battery wouldn’t charge. It took about a week for it to get replaced, I was without internet, and I never got around to getting back to you about the name. I do appreciate that it holds some reverence for you, but it does for me too. I’m a taurus, it’s my temperament, I love the song, and I’m quite often lonely! haha
Leandro Cedeno hit is 13th HR pushing his season OPS to over 1.000. He just turned 20 two days ago. Any chance he starts in Peoria? He’s listed on milb.com as a 1b, but he’s played mostly corner OF for JC. It seems his position flexibility would help starting next season in full season ball. The only real struggle he’s had at the plate is with SOs, but he walks just enough to keep his OBP respectable. I don’t have a clue about the quality of his defense.
I remember that game when they suspended it. Both Plummer and Yariel homered and up until now their stats didn’t reflect it.
It’s an odd thing to state Cecil is pitching better than before. He’s pitched a whopping 3 innings since July 22nd when his ERA was 5.70. Also, Ozuna’s OPS is still worse than Pham’s and he’s a worse defensive player in LF. I recognize a lot of Pham’s performance was buoyed by his early success, but there are statistics out there, the same one’s used to predict Carpenter’s about-face change of luck that also apply to Pham. Granted, he’s injured, but I don’t think the team gained by giving him up for playing Ozuna, and at the time, Fowler.
Well, he was the top international signing this year, so it’s not like he was a complete unknown prior to your creating a Nunez thread. I know your post was in jest and you should get credit for opening a discussion.

I’ve been a vocal supporter of Pham and became especially so when he was benched in mid-August 2016 after OPSing in the .860 range up until his benching. He somehow became one of the most polarizing figures on the team. There were people who loved him and people who hated him. Why the hate? I never understood. But he was undersold by upper management(including Matheny) and the fans. Today, the fans who continually hated him, who wanted to trade him all throughout – even in his brightest moments(because of his eyes, of course) – rejoiced in utter contempt. Why? Because of the SI article, because they think he’s a narcissist(hahahahahahahahahahaha), because he’s raw and uncensored unlike them, because of a bad ending to 2016? I’ll never get the feel good story that was marred by so many disconcerting voices. I’ll never respect management for this trade. A cost-controlled self-critical man with a dogged work ethic and a load of talent for a couple of prospects who might not have been protected this coming off-season by the team trading them? So to make room for playing time for a player signed for too long and too much and in the face of a player like Pham who they should’ve known was ready to break out. There was never a reason for Fowler – it was shown. Instead of correcting that mistake to make room for O’Neill, they fooled themselves again and wasted value. All for what? So they can cut loose more players when they inevitably have to cut loose dead weight from the 40-man? One of my worst days as a Cardinals fan. I’d rather lose a playoff spot on the last day of the season.
