Urena is 0-7 but that ERA is not bad enough to warrant that bad a record. Here’s hoping he is 0-8 after tonight.

For those who are more in the know, how do the first three picks look in terms of signing versus the slot value?
Just looking at the profiles, it may seem like Gorman will be slot or over while Roberts and Baker may sign for under slot? They are juniors but the injury probably won’t help Baker at least.
As for today, it’d be nice if Knight is available in the third round at the Cards’ pick. If the money is there, Rocker or De Sadas would be luxury picks.
Seems like a good pick. With the run on pitchers it seemed like the position player was the way to go. Hopefully we see this kid in the big leagues in 3-5 years!
Nope, Tampa Bay snapped him up. At this point, there is bound to be a pretty talented player left at 19. At least two of Singer and Kowar, Nolan Gorman and McClanahan. Plus whomever else the Cards really like.
Hicks comes in and gives up a hit but ultimately gets the last three with two Ks. Nice series win for the Cards. Let’s keep em rolling!
Does Wacha go out for the ninth? For his own health, the answer should probably be no. His pitch count is up there. But… It’s hard not to let the guy have a chance at something special.
I’d probably have a standard starting lineup of:
1B Carp
SS Dejong
CF Pham
LF Ozuna
3B Gyorko
RF Bader
C Yadi
2B Wong-Jmart gets a couple starts at 1B a week and maybe spots LF for Ozuna once
-Fowler gets 4 starts a week in RF (Bader spots for Pham one a week), LH PH
-Munoz backs up 3B-SS-2B
-Garcia backup, PH against RHP
-Peña backup C1. Cmart
2. Wacha
3. Mikolas
4. Flaherty/Weaver
5. ReyesNorris
Hicks
Leone
Lyons
Cecil
Waino
GantI realize Gregerson and Holland have to be in there but I don’t think I would trust them much even at full health. I’d like to be wrong come October.
This is a big momentum game for the Birds after two walkoff wins sandwiched round the clunker on Friday. The schedule is pillow soft for the next nine games and it would be good to get a nice head start on what should (if the team plays up to snuff) be a push to get 10+ games over .500.
Wacha has been the most consistent starter so far, even with all the good performances on the staff. Gotta think that if he can get a quality start, the Cards stand a good shot to win.
Great to see Wong come through for the winner. His stats on balls in play have been absurdly bad this year, but you would expect they’ll improve. He still walks at a decent rate, doesn’t strike out much and plays great defense. It would be good to have him hitting more like last year.
Not a great offensive night tonight? I was hoping the Pirates might be a bit deflated after last night’s walk off.
Usually an offense benefits from seeing a pitcher twice in a short time. Taillon is doing quite a bit better tonight than last week. Hope the Cards can figure him out the third time through the order.
As I say that…costly error there allows the Pirates to strike first. Still going in the inning. Nope, nice play by the Wonger to end the inning.

I also read your notes on the farm when I see them posted, 14NyquisT. I consider it a nice supplement to the daily roll that Brian posts every morning.
Jager, the concern is that the Cards, notorious for downplaying injuries, even admit that he’s going to be out for a significant amount of time. Remember when Carlos went down and they said he’d miss a start? It obviously was a lot more than that.
You may be right in the end but the history with this team says he will be out multiple months and maybe the year.
You have your tinted glasses on and that’s fine, even admirable at times…we need it sometimes here…but in this case I think we on the other side have good reason to be concerned.
Hey Mike…I agree that Taillon can be good but Mikolas is consistently what Taillon can be, at least so far this year. Of course we did get stymied by the kid last time so you never know.
As for Dejong…he def will have a job. I suspect Wong has more to worry about. Paulie D was on pace for a 6 win season before the injury and nothing really screams that he shouldn’t be able to keep it up.
Can Wong play anything other than 2B or is his arm too weak? It’s a shame because I think his ceiling is quite a lot higher than Greg Garcia and it would be nice if he had the ability to spot start at SS or 3B for the LH bat.
My IF pecking order right as of right now when Dejong is recovered:
1B: 1. Carp 2. Martinez
2B: 1. Wong 1A. Muñoz 3. Gyorko 4. Garcia
SS: 1. Dejong 2. Muñoz 3. Garcia
3B: 1. Gyorko 2. Muñoz 2A. Garcia 4. CarpNot sure how they’re going to shuffle it but someone may be shutting to Memphis.
Brian, forgive me if this has been covered somewhere else… But what is the realistic ceiling/scouting report on Montero? It sure seems like he has taken off this year. Is he likely to stick at third base? Is the hit tool legitimate? He sure seems to be an exciting prospect this year, and could fly up the rankings pretty quickly considering the number of players about to graduate from the system.
This is a clear pitching mismatch, but ya gotta play the games and all.
Also, I’d like to publicly apologize for my outburst yesterday. Lots of heavy personal stuff lately for me but there are no excuses. I started to feel sorry for *myself* and let it infect my enjoyment of what should be a fun game. Won’t happen again. Sorry to y’all for having to hear it.
