Just not a good series. Unfortunately the Cards seem to have a couple of these a year the last few years and that’s why they’ve struggled to make the wild card. I’m afraid a shakeup is going to be needed or this team will be sitting at home in October again this year.
I’m not sure exactly what it is but they’re just not doing enough right now.
Yairo gets eaten up by the ground ball. They just said the Cards have the third most errors in baseball. Combine that with I believe the second most outs on the base paths they said and this team needs to get a bit more fundamentally sound to have a shot at clawing back into the division race.
Chen has gotten three grounders so far, which is out of character. Hopefully Ozuna can put a charge into one.
I read Peavy was out 10 months with his injury and he lost about 2 mph off his fastball when he returned. Now, he was 29 when his happened and not 23, but still it has me worried. Reyes at 95-97 has an elite ceiling…at 93-95 he’s probably mid rotation even if he can get his control issues settled.
I’m beginning to think a roster full of youngsters might be just as good or better than what we’ve got:
Norris
Hicks
Hudson
Helsley
Poncedeleon/Tuivalala
Gomber/Lyons (we don’t need that many LHP)
GantMemphis would suffer but so what??
Ha ha, Brian…you are a busy guy (enjoyed listening to you on the Danny Mac podcast yesterday, btw) so we will all be awaiting the June update in a couple weeks. It’ll be good to have some fresh faces to debate.
I’ve never felt like I had the knowledge about prospects that others here have had but having followed much more closely the last couple years thanks to TCN I feel a lot more “in the know” than the average fan. So thanks to you, Derek and the rest of the staff for that!
I need the Cards to score 10+ runs tonight as catharsis. Losing Reyes stinks.
Chen is terrible…let’s make sure he looks even more terrible tonight, shall we?
Big blow…Reyes had surgery and is out for the season. He should be ready for 2019 I guess.
The team will be ok but it stinks to have lost now two full years while Alex is on the clock. He may come back ok but his major surplus value is basically gone at this point. I don’t think the Cards can count on him being a part of the rotation going forward.
Carlos had a very minor lat injury. Reyes’ is clearly more significant, thus the need to get a second opinion. I’m pretty sure the swelling might need to go down to see if he’s got a full on tear that needs surgery as well.
Regardless, it doesn’t look that good for Alex. Hopefully he’s back for the stretch but entirely possible he’s not.
Just a bad loss. As I feared, Ureña got the monkey off his back at our expense. Not a good start to the part of the schedule where the Cards HAD to make up ground on the Brewers and Cubs.
Still…it happens. The Marlins don’t have a .000 win pct. We’ll still take 2/3. Go Cards!
Guilmet looking pretty bad in his re-debut. Not sure why Gomber didn’t come in at some point.
Anyway, looking like Ureña may get that first win against the Birds (his team is 0-12 in his starts so far)…very bad timing for the team’s 7 hits so far tonight. I’ve got to be up at 530 (ET) so to bed I go. Hope the Cards can come back.
Pham with another ground out. Has the league caught up to him, is something wrong with his eyes, or just a simple slump? This team badly needs him back. At least this one scored a run, even if it was a double play.
Ureña had two strikeouts that inning where he didn’t throw a single pitch in the strike zone. Cmart that’s acceptable, but Muñoz just had a bad at bat.
Still, good to get the run and some good swings that inning. Now set em down, Carlos, and let’s get locked in at the plate, Birds!
Ozuna with the single, advances on the wild pitch and Yadi drives him in with a poke on the elevated slider…1-0 Cards!
Ureña made him work by fouling off some pitches but Carlos escapes. Gotta get him settled down, and score him some runs!
Little league stuff there as Carpenter leads off with the single and then gets doubled off first after the sliding catch by Dietrich. Pham softly grounds out and there’s your inning.
Carlos was a bit rusty to start off…4 straight balls missed the plate. However, he settled down to strike out Dietrich and helped keep the local bat factory in business with the sawed odd double play ball to retire the side.
Hope Ozuna can hit the Marlins line Gyorko has hit the Padres since he left!
I’ve been checking your page all day and really enjoying the info. Thanks for doing that work for us, Brian and Scott!
Sounds like an exciting prospect in Gorman, and a good kid. Early on I’d imagine he might be fringe top 100 on national lists and maybe middle of the top 10 for the Cards? I’d probably start to edge Knizer ahead of Kelly and Helsley ahead of Hudson, with Gorman in the mix with those guys in the #5-9 spots.
Quite a few left-handed hitters today. We could really use some development there, obviously. Not sure if this was intentional or just the way it happened to work out.
With the Carlos and Yadi moves come a couple more…Garcia to paternity leave, Baron DFA and Guilmet gets the call (and the add to the 40 man).
