Brian, please indulge me. What level of the minors would you compare the Big 12 to in which Wetherholt competed in. And basically, dominated his last season. I’ve read the SEC being compared to AA by some as far as the competition.
So, age, then, isn’t really that much of factor in Wetherholt not possibly being ready in ’25. Is that correct?
Brian, respectfully, Burly deserves plenty of praise. Don’t you think? Most Burleson threads have faded a way. Comparing the possibility of the #7 pick in the draft to possibly making the strides Burleson has made seems relevant to draft discussion.
So wouldn’t both Sosa and Acuna match up pretty close to where Wetherholt would be in ’25, chronollogically? Considering, if Wetherholt would have signed out of high school.
Brian, could be. But maybe, just maybe, Wetherholt is the exception. I saw where a scout said Wetherholt was the best hitting prospect he’d ever seen. Take it for what it’s worth. And then there’s the youngsters in the MLB, Sosa and Acuna Jr. However, I agree, mid ’26 is likely more realistic for the lineup I proposed.
CC, I sure wish Walker could. The lineup could use another RH power bat. Then, what would you do in CF. Siani is such a fabulous defensive CF. And he’s improving as a hitter. If Walker’s in RF. It would then be Siani or Noot as the regular CF. Scott could also be a fabulous defensive CF. IF he can hit MLB pitching respectably.

Can Wetherholt move through the system that fast? If Wetherholt was pegged as the potential #1 pick in the recent draft. Why couldn’t he?
Considering all the other capable 2B. And Gorman’s horrendous K rate. Wonder if Mo will shop him before the deadline for a much needed front line starter with some contract control for the future.
KBC, RBK, CC, where would the Cardinals be without Burleson’s production so far this season? They’d be about where they were last season. Give some credit where credit is due. I’d be ecstatic if Wetherholt is the hitter Burleson is now when Wetherholt is 25. Hopefully, he will be. If he’s even better than Burleson is as a hitter, that would be “icing on the cake”. Not every player can be a 5 tool player. Very few are. But not every player can hit like Burly can either.
CC, you have got to be kidding. Burly is hitting like you’d like for a high 1st round draft pick to hit. Please tell me why you might disagree.

blingboy, I agree. Let’s hope he moves up through system like Burleson did. From the reports I’ve got, Wetherholt could be a Burly-type hitter for the Cardinals, eventually.
If Wetherholt is the fabulous hitter some claim, why not start him out at AA? If he’s overmatched, then send him down to A ball. Nothing lost. If he’s successful at AA, it might help Mo decide what to do in the off season with all the second basemen at AAA and above.
Is the lineup for the first game in the doubleheader today against Atlanta signalling that Gorman may be shopped around for the right high end starting pitcher?
Burleson got down the line pretty darn good on that grounder in his first AB. He seems to have at least average speed.
Winn, Donovan, Edman and Burleson were drafted by the Cardinals and have developed nicely through the system. Let’s hope Gorman and Walker are on that path, too. Now the Cardinals need that from their organizational starting pitching.
There’s some depth at 2B. I’d consder trading Gorman before Walker for a young stud starting pitcher. Considering realistic trade value, Nootbaar and Hererra would be my first choices to trade for a fairly high level starting pitcher with some contract control. No doubt in my mind, Mo needs to acquire one, somehow.
Who would you deal for a really good, (#3 type minimum), established, fairly contract controlled for a couple seasons, starting pitcher?
jcf, So, the Cardinals really need another productive, consistent starting pitcher for now, the playoffs and next season. Who would you prefer trading to get that type of starting pitcher? And Burly’s playing time seems pretty secure, for now, regardless of who’s on the current roster, don’t you think? Your assumption is incorrect.
It really makes no difference to me if Burleson is in RF, LF, 1B or DH. As long as his bat is in the Cardinals lineup.
RBK, so what’s your plan to not only make the playoffs” But actually, do something when when the Cardinals get there. Is Contreras’ defense at catcher clearly superior to Burleson’s in RF? IMO, Pages is superior to Contreras at handling pitchers and throwing out runners. Do you agree or not? Granted, Contreras deserves to be in the lineup. So does Burleson. Only one can DH. What would you do?
