RBK, so do you not want Burleson’s outstanding bat in RF, playing decent defense, Contreras DHing, to enable Pages’ brilliant defensive catching? Picking up a really good starting pitcher in a trade for either Nootbaar or Gorman. Please show me your better plan to advance in the playoffs. The Cardinals current starting pitching ain’t going to allow for much advancement in the playoffs.
Nootbaar’s 35.6 TV seems like the logical trade chip for a quality starting pitcher by the trade deadline. Some considerations include. Noot has spent quite a bit of time on the injured list. And that’s if Siani and Carlson can be adequate in CF with Burleson continuing to play regularly in RF. Before Burly transitions to the regular 1B next season. Also, Edman seems fairly close to returning to help out in CF. What it comes down to is Burleson’s and Siani’s progress may allow the Cardinals to trade Nootbaar for the needed starting pitching help by the trade deadline.
Also, getting an outstanding hitter like Wetherholt may allow for a trade of another hitter for a really good starting pitcher in the future.
The high second round pick would have been nice. But the Cardinals got their so-called “ace” starting pitcher.

Mo could have some valuable trade chips for needed starting pitchers in the offseason. By the end of the season, Burly could be the most “untouchable” of the seven. Who would have thunk it going into the season? Would Mo use one of these trade chips to get a needed starting pitcher by this trade deadline?
bccran, do you have the current trade values for Walker, Gorman and Burleson? If not, maybe somebody else has them. TIA. Also, I, too, am curious if the Wetherholt selection makes Gorman more expendable. Maybe the Cardinals brass are getting weary of all the strikeouts. I know, I am. #8 in the lineup is a good place for him, right now.
I know I’m not supposed to overly express my enthusiasm for how fabulous Burleson has been for Cardinals. But Wetherholt is going to be very comparable to Burly as an MLB hitter. Stay tuned.
Burleson will be moving to 1B next season. Some have no clue as to how good of of player Wetherholt is. I know the Cardinals could have certainly used an “ace-type” pitcher. But the thought of Winn, Donovan, Burleson and Wetherholt in the same lineup could be special. Those four can fricken’ hit at a high level.
blingboy, be skeptical if you wish. Wetherholt can really hit. Kind of like getting a future Burleson and/or Donovan. Stay tuned.
The Cardinals may have got the best player in the draft in Wetherholt. He’s a Burleson/Donovan type talent. With Winn an obvious fixture at SS for many years to come. It will be interesting to see where Wetherholt fits in. A Gorman trade for needed starting pitching maybe. Or maybe Arenado gets moved for the right deal. Wetherholt ain’t that for off from the majors.
I’ve been claiming this for a while. With these inconsistent starting pitchers, some with some age, Mo needs have as a priority to make a bold trade for another quality starting pitcher before the trade deadline.
Be nice if either Smith or Wetherholt are still available at #7. Kurtz will likely be there and would be a solid pick for the Cardinals.
Last post on this thread from me. I, respectfully, disagree that comparing what Burleson is doing to the fabulous Simmons does not have merit. But, you are “calling the shots”. And I’ll abide by your interpretation of something not worthy and acceptable here. Go Cards !
Brian, so you don’t feel Burleson is currently hitting, production-wise, like Ted Simmons in his prime? If you don’t, no biggie. If need be, the thread can just fade away.
blingboy, I hope you are as thrilled as I am to have Burleson hitting at an “All Star caliber” level for the Cardinals. Right now, he is hitting like a Ted Simmons in his prime. IMO Maybe loosen up just a tad.
To clarify, I’m not talking style in compararing Burly’s LHB to Simmons’s LHB. I’m talking potential, long-term production.
Burly kind of resembles a younger Hank Williams Jr. And kind of a have some fun-type character like Hank Jr.
By the end of the season, it will be interesting as to who has the highest trade value. Burleson, Gorman or Walker.
