Lead it 2-0 heading to the bottom of the 7th, but this game will be a tough one to win. Too many missed scoring opportunities by a visiting team under these circumstances almost always spells “doom”. Not to be a Davey Downer, but I’d give us about a 20% chance of attaining victory
Looks like we’re in a fog delay. Maybe it’s best just to call the game and put it in the books.
And Rat with another great call about this one probably going into a fog delay. He projected this delay 2 days ago……..God knows how Rat does it?
I’m a firm believer that Herrera is indeed on a quest to surpass Ron Hunt’s MLB HBP record of 50 in a season. I wish him well and pray none of those pitches hits a vulnerable spot.
We should be able to tag a couple homers off Imanaga. When totally fresh, he’s almost unhitable. When his arm starts logging a fair amount of pitches in a season and he loses a couple ticks off his pitches, he’s extremely vulnerable. He still probably had a couple decent 2026 starts in him, but mark my words, he soon will be getting rocked so hard that even with their injury depleted starting rotation, Imanaga is going to pitch himself out of their rotation.

Makes my day that the always entertaining Carter Le Grand got his “gadgets” up and running again. Also hats off to the esteemed Rat on another magnificent meteorological report and delicious din-din to boot. My din-din tonight will be at the Del Bar in the beautiful Wisconsin Dells. We have a 4pm reservation and will be ordering either the King crab legs or the twin lobster tails……or who knows, maybe I’ll have my lovely fiance order the king crab and me the lobster so I can indulge in both.
If the St. Louis manufactured fireworks continue again this evening, I would like to see Oli show a little mercy to our neighbors to the north and take his foot off the pedal a bit. No contesting of any umpiranarial calls, no seizing any extra real estate on the base paths and so forth. Getting absolutely destroyed in consecutive games in your own ballpark has to be misery and torment beyond words for both the organization and it’s fans. I would like to see out team show a little compassion and win this game by only 9…..not more than 10 runs.
Indeed 1964Cards. I too am anxiously awaiting Rat’s weather report to see if we’re going to be seeing Cardinals baseball in the Windy City this evening. Years of experience has taught me to rely on Rat’s meteorological reports far greater than the local and national meteorologists.
Sorry TD……that was the Wild Turkey talking in my last post there. Lambasting our arch rivals by 16 runs in their park is always good reason to celebrate with a tall glass of the Wild Gobbler.
Doyle was decent, but Nunez was dynamite in last night’s 2-1 triumph at Route 66 stadium. Love Rodriguez, but just a teeny weeny red flag in Raniel’s direction with him whiffing in all 4 plate appearances vs top notch pitching (Kade Anderson). I bet next year, if Kade isn’t already plying his trade in Seattle, when Raniel steps into the box vs. Kade, he takes him downtown with a towering tater to center.
Although the times certainly had it’s difficulties, the 70’s and 80’s, from it’s music, to it’s sports, to it’s beautiful innocence, were truly special. We all are merely temporary tenants, occupying time and space, only to one day give way to others…….and then in relatively short order to be forgotten forever……so carpe diem.
I’d be terribly remiss in not recognizing our 2nd base umpire for today’s slaughter. Some of our seasoned posters may recall about 15 years or so ago when I often commented on a Midwest league umpire whom I gave the name “Eagle Eye’. I praised his calling of the action and said he was a “can’t miss” future MLB umpire. That man is Brock “Eagle Eye” Ballou.
I hate the cubbies more than anyone…..except maybe Scotty. But they need to enact the 1923 Mercy Rule and put an abrupt stop to this game. This game is too embarrassing for words, to the Chicago cub organization and to it’s fans. To continue on in this game would be true misery and torment to one of this league’s most storied franchises…….albeit a perennial losing one. Just recently this cub organization endured over a full century without winning a world series. I’m all for showing some mercy here and stopping this game.
Libby vs the 2026 Atlanta Braves is akin to James “Buster” Douglas squaring off against Mike Tyson……..wait….didn’t Buster bust-up and knock out the great Mike Tyson? Well if Buster got the job done then so can Libby. We’ll certainly see how Libby handles pressure, as its as plain as the nose on Jimmy Durante’s face that if he tosses another clunker again tonight that he’s knocked himself right on out of the rotation. In an upset special, I’m calling this one 6-4 Cards with Libby going 6 frames strong and Georgia native Jordan Walker lifting a towering tater high up into the steel rafters in left.
Still waiting for Rat’s weather report, as I never plan my Cardinals viewing pleasure without getting the weather lowdown from the Stan Musial of meteorology himself. Thanks Rat!
The losses are starting to mount up as we regress more towards our expected record.
It appears so, but these guys sure gave us nearly a half season of fun inspiring baseball. However, Bloom can’t be too upset if the team continues it’s decline. If the team had continued winning, there’s no way he could have turned his back on the players and coaches by trading some of them away. He would have been the most hated man in St. Louis since Bowtie Bill Bidwell skipped town for Arizona with his team in tow.

never a good thing. Need to not only win these next 2 games, but also in a convincing manner. As long as he doesn’t get hurt, I wouldn’t mind seeing Herrera get plunked a couple more times before we hit the road. The conclusion of tomorrow’s game will put us smack dab at the halfway mark in the season. Ivan(22 HBP) is running just a titch behind the pace of Ron Hunt’s ML record of getting whacked 50 times in a season, which Ronny accomplished in 1971. I’ve always regarded Hunt’s record as nearly as difficult to eclipse as the 56 game hitting streak. With a little luck and maybe just edging another inch closer to the plate, Ivan can do it.We all know that Mo is flawed, but there sure was a heck of a lot of winning baseball under his flagship. Arte sure appears to be enamored with the Cardinals organization, having dished out huge bucks for one of the all time great Redbird players and now one of it’s longest tenured bosses……anyone know how much Mo is getting paid. I’m thinking at least a couple Mill plus usage of some mighty lavish living quarters. Not bad for a few month gig, but I’m not buying the interim tag being placed on Mo. If things go swell between Mo & Arte this summer, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mo inking a long term deal.
Closet Braves fan, KeepComingBack? If Zachary Peter Gallen was a stock, I’d be unloading it. His ERA has been edging northward from year to year since ’22. And this year he’s been pretty much bad to the bone with ball in hand. If he baffles our boys tonight then that will be a pretty fair indicator of what direction our club is heading. On the heels of getting spanked 2-3 to the lowly Royals, losing 3-4 at home to the mediocre Diamondbacks would be most discouraging. But being the eternal optimist, I’m calling it 7-3 Birds this evening with Winn yanking a 3-1 fastball right down Broadway high up into the rafters in left.
And what’s for din-din one may ask? It’ll be a jaunt on over to Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse for a bone-in medium rare ribeye with mushrooms on the side, asparagus spears lathered in butter, salt & pepper and baked potato swimming in butter and sour cream. Then on the way home, I’ll steer the ol’ wheel in Popeye’s direction to grab 3 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies…….and to jazz them up(not that they need any jazzing), I’ll be slapping on a scoop of Breyer’s vanilla ice cream to each of the 3 little gems.
The crafty Venezuelan southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez could pose some serious problems for our boys. But I’m calling it 5-3 Cards anyway. You have to be thinking sweep in this series vs our wild card hopeful foes…….but I won’t lose any sleep if we take them down 3 games out of the 4.

And Rat weighs in again with a very delicious din-din and meteorological report second to none. It is my sincere hope that Brian is properly compensating Rat for his game day weather reports that not only cover our ballparks, but also the greater SW Indiana region. We all know that Rat utilizes Doppler radar, but what few realize is that Rat mingles in his own meteorological radar data with it to give us the most comprehensive accurate information on the planet. Maybe Doppler radar should go the way of the dinosaur to make way for the next big meteorological tool…….Ratler Radar.
Just back after a whirlwind 3 day trip to beautiful Door County to attend my 3rd wedding of 2016. Last year I went to 6 of them, but only have one more slated for this year(August), so I won’t be topping 2025 matrimonials this year.
Anyway, Arenado is going to be out to club the daylights out of us……let’s not let him beat us. Any word on any “Gassy” (Gastelum) sightings yet? We need him up here pronto! Pivotal series. A poor showing in this 4 game series and I’ll agree with “Honest” AbeRosa’s sentiments about us being sellers next month. I’m calling it 6-3 Birds tonight with Walker getting off the proverbial power schneid by launching a tape measure 2 run blast well up into the cheap seats.
My din-din tonight won’t garner any blue ribbon attention, but what the heck. It’ll be 2 Oscer Meyer beef bologna sandwiches. One with yellow mustard and the other with Duke’s mayo. I’ll also be munching on some Gerkin’s sweet pickles and potato chips dipped into sour cream. No dessert tonight, gang, as the ol’ Pugsaronias is watching the widening waistline get downsized a smidgen on this fine Monday evening.
